  • The attack on the Twin Towers in lower Manhattan, NYC, in 2001 will forever be perhaps the most viceral and profound, sobering moment in the history of not only New York, but our entire country. In honor of those who lost their lives on 9-11, those who lost their loved ones, and for every human being, here's to a better world, for all of us.
"Divided we are AmeriCAN'T. United we are AmeriCAN"- a woman speaking at the 9-11 ceremony today who lost her son in 2001.

I'll tell my recollection. Was working in DC at the time in an office building in Mclean (about 10 miles away). We were all downstairs in the lobby watching NYC unfold when we all heard the plane hit the Pentagon and a bit later could see the big smoke plume. A year later we then had the DC Sniper (which probably none of you remember) and that also was a terrify time for 3 weeks or whatever it was. 2 guys driving around shooting people from a distance via the trunk of a car. 17 dead from that.

@@judsonbertoch7928 Yes… I remember that sniper. Incredibly scary time. This world we live in, just unbelievable how we just don’t know how to act towards one another.

@@judsonbertoch7928 that’s easy to do, and I think any normal human being struggles with that, but the only thing we have left is the ability to find some joy in every day, no matter what. So much of the world sucks, but there’s always a way to create something beautiful, and there’s always something beautiful sitting somewhere really close to us, all the time. We just have to make things happen, and we have to keep our eyes wide open and notice.one day at a time.

9/11 was felt by all America but those who survived near NY really got the blunt end and first hand experience. The rest of us felt helpless to help.

I knew someone on one of the planes, the daughter of a friend of mine. She was 19, and just coming home for the weekend to celebrate with her parents. I still remember sitting with my friend after she found out about the crash, still hoping that her daughter had missed her flight somehow. Not saying anything. Those memories are what is real about 9/11 even though I have visited the memorial. Thanks for covering this.

@@steveschnetzler5471 wow. That is so sad, I’m sorry you had to experience that. That is something that I’m sure you’ll never forget. I was once at a meeting, sitting across from somebody at their desk, and their phone rang, and they just got silent. He found out that his niece had just gotten hit by a car and was killed and literally just sat there and didn’t say a word. And I just excused myself and I left. I didn’t know what to do.there are so many traumatic moments in life, it’s sobering and makes you realize how fleeting our existence is. Thanks for sharing that, that’s not an easy thing to talk about.

Yesterday I was about to hit the bed, my wife was scrolling on her iPhone and saw that it was 9/11. And I was like "yeah, it happened 23 years ago", she got silent, and I was "that hit hard?" and she was like "yeah.....".
It's been so long, yet it all seems like yesterday.
I was 14 years old, It was like early afternoon that day, early morning in NY. Saw all of it live, can still remember when I called all my friends playing outside inside my place, because "they" were throwing planes at buildings. Shocking, still can remember our newscaster's screams in horror when the 2nd plane hit, and how the world changed around us.
The end of the 90's vibe ended when those planes hit. People's lifes were shattered, the world evolved more and more sick place around that event which in itself was a sick event.
My brother visited the memorial last year in NY, he felt sick and sat in silence outside for almost two hours.
I want to visit NY myself, but don't know if I have the courage to visit that museum...

@@grabedigger you know… I never really thought about the possibility that things changed so dramatically culturally after that day, but I really have to sit and think about that. I know that personally, the world does not even resemble what it used to resemble to me since the pandemic, but I’m not sure about 911. I feel like we recovered to a certain extent, but now that I reflect, and now that you mentioned it, I feel like I really want to sit and think about that, I think you might be right. The world is a very complicated place, and I tend to agree that so much of it is sick. Literally in many cases, but figuratively as well. But I think it’s more technology and AI and things like that that have had us lose our way, forget our humanity. We are no longer people that have anything simple about us, we don’t even know how to sit with ourselves and be quiet. To be alone, to go out of your home and be disconnected for an entire day feels dangerous to people now, whereas in the past, you just went out and lived your life. there are so many people alive right now who have no idea what that even feels like. To go out for an entire day, work, play, accomplish things, and then come home and check your answering machine. Lol. That sounds astounding to so many people right now. :-) Thanks for this comment, it leaves me quite a bit to think about. I appreciate it. Oh, and I have to tell you, if you go down to the 911 Memorial, there is no question you will feel the energy in the air, and I know a lot of people don’t believe in such things, but there is no question that when you get there, it feels different than anywhere else, at least anywhere else in New York City. thanks again.
