Season 2 was produced in 1962, and we still watch - who will watch the silly shows of the 90s, 30 from now? This season came before Vietnam and even when it ended, in ‘66, the TET hadn’t happened. Poor Larry is about to laugh every time he has a funny line, so the camera goes away from him. I don’t think many kids could act like he does - the director doesn’t treat him like he’s cute no matter what he says (as many kid actors were treated during the 90s). This episode has to be among top funniest ones (especially when he doesn’t get married because he can’t hear the pastor).
Hi Marina, Actually, Active U.S. involvement in The Vietnam War began in 1954. By May of 1961, things began to escalate; When President Kennedy sent newly-designed helicopters and 400 elite Green Berets troops to South Vietnam, beginning secret operations against the Viet Cong. By the end of 1962, there were approximately 11,000 U.S. military "advisors" in South Vietnam. JFK also expanded military aid to the South Vietnam government. (I hope this helps)
90s shows weren't that bad. I imagine there are several timeless ones that will be rewatched later on as well. That 70s Show, Seinfeld and Frasier are some of the highly regarded "silly" shows that are still popular today, 20 years later. Originality goes to early television because many ideas get re-used or recreated but every once in a while there is something fresh. 90s definitely had animation going for it- and there are so many shows from The Simpsons to King of the Hill that just remain relevant as time goes on.
I thought exactly the same thing, especially in a previous episode where Richie fell in love with two ducks. He was incredible at showing hurt and sadness. He made me cry.
For the sake of continuity, Rob fell for Laura right away, but she wanted nothing to do with him, until they danced together at a USO show. And he broke her toes. That was another flashback episode. Very sweet
There is another episode with a similar joke but no matter how many times I hear it it's still funny. I can't remember what episode it was but pretty sure it was in season 4
The Army doctor was played by Sandy Kenyon, who appeared in a couple of episodes of MASH, about a decade after this episode of the DVD Show. He did not play an army doctor on MASH.
09:53 - Military 'Jeeps' (Truck, 1/4 Ton, 4X4, G503) did not have ignition keys. Rob's Jeep also has a civilian (CJ2A) windshield frame and the spare tire has been moved (should be mounted to rear panel).
Maybe someone can explain why Laura's aunt from Ohio can make it to the wedding and Rob's own parents can't make the long trek from Danville Illinois. In a later episode Rob tries to "explain" to his mother that he was in the army, a completely illogical "explanation."
I think it was because they didn't approve. Rob's mother hates Laura, and they probably didn't want him to marry a young dancer. He was already engaged to another girl at home.
I was born in 1952, attended schools in central California. The Bible was not taught or present in our schools. There were several different races and ethnic groups, and several different faiths observed. Ours was a very conservative area, so that all may have contributed to omitting religion from the curriculum.
DVD and MTM are the cutest couple.
I know. How did these two NOT fall in love on set?

So true, heck I'm 13 and I still watch it with my little sister. My whole family loves it

12:21 Laura: “Oh Rob.”
Rob: Looks up with a bewildered look on his face. 😂
Laura started saying "oh Rob" before they were even married.
CLASSIC!
Larry Matthews has to be the very best child actor of all. The lines are said as if natural thoughts expressed. Great comedic timing to boot.

@@Rippypoo Right down to the glistening tears in his eyes. 😢
um, okkkkkkk
Yeah. I agree. I think the producers eventually realized he added little to the show, which is why he didn't show up much in later episodes.
Just Adorable!💜💯

I never thought about it but youre right it would make no sense for a jeep to have keys because they were for anyone to use.
Step it Up

It's a lack of continuity. Don't overthink it.
So where was rob?? he couldnt have gone to his army base and gotten another jeep?????
Why would the audience be laughing at the window going down by itself in 21:16?
Because he was trying to open it from the bottom, and he didn't notice it was coming down from the top for several seconds.

What does that have to do with anything? 🤔🙄😒

The Flashbacks are due to a child asking parents and of course Rob is writing a book about his life. The series ends with this storyline.
Rob is very neurotic in this one
I like the show. I HATE all the flashback episodes!
