Iconic. As Bresson said, images come to life when they are placed side by side, just as in painting, exclaims Bresson, a red will always be a red; but that red perhaps with other colors around it nourishes it with a unique evocative capacity. Pure cinema in this scene, like all Bresson's cinema and his thoughts on it, thanks to (among many other things) a unique montage that manages to narrate perhaps the best robbery sequence in the history of cinema.
You could put this in a Michael Mann or Christopher Nolan film and it would fit right in with the aesthetics and craftsmanship. Thoroughly contemporary. Extraordinary.
The purse steal is iconic!!

A ballet of crime.
Absolutely!! It's just like dance or poetry!!
Best montage ever
I'd have liked to see the reaction of the woman when she realizes she has a newspaper under her arm and not her purse!

making the idea of stealing people's things normal spreads the evil everywhere
it's an ugly behavior to steal people's things how'll they feel after they find out that someone stole their purses?

Where do you think they got it from?
