So……after over 50 years of sewing I finally learned how to stop bird nests. I could cry with happiness. I knew some people pulled the threads up, but I had no idea why. I stumbled on your site by accident, and I’m so glad I did. Thank you!
I emailed Boki a couple of weeks ago about my birds nest problem and this is what she recommended! I'm glad I am not the only one who has this problem and more relieved it isn't my machine. I am now pulling up my bottom thread or using leaders. It's an extra step but I wanted a machine with an automatic thread cutter so not using it isn't my first choice. Thank goodness I've kept my little scraps of fabric for leaders! Thanks for your videos! I learn so much from them!
Great video. This my first machine with a thread cutter and I LOVE it! However, sometimes you really do not want the possibility of a bird's nest so both methods are a great solution. For me, the leader cloth is almost the best as it seems a tiny bit quicker.
Totally agree, however its the small price we pay for the convivence of the thread cutter... using a polyester thread helps with the bunching but ultimately pulling your threads up is the only way to prevent.
I usually can fix anything so I looked at my old sewing machine that had been messing up with birds nesting underneath. I took it apart and found the top of the lock ring was bent upwards, bent it back to what I guess was the correct angle and also adjusted the tension swylitch on the back of the machine. Test sewed a piece of fabric and the nesting stopped. It was sewing tight and short underneath, it's good enough for me and my upholstery work.
I really appreciate the channel ! I purchased my Juki online. And I am learning as I go and this type and all your information is SOOO helpful! Thank you !
I don’t use my cutter if it’s a project where the birds nest would make a difference such as piecing. In that case, I always use a leader and ender. Binding scraps are the perfect size.
There's a lot of things that can be causing this.. Here's the basics needle size, bad needle, tension is off, speed of machine and no burrs in plate. Check these things out first. Also join Juki Junkies FB group and post on there with more details and we can help you out :)
Off topic-I just got my juki tl18. I’ve watch many videos (including many of yours)…is the knee controlled pressure foot lifter supposed to “lock” it in the upright position or just raise it while pushed to remove the fabric-mine only does the latter❤
Hello! My Juki HZL f600 makes a nest & makes bobbin noise at END of the seam especially when I use auto reverse setting. I’ve tried re-threading, manually, cutting thread but still have problems
Man!… just think,… years ago women had to worry about keeping the stove working during the night to stay warm. Now they worry about “birds nests” on a 1st link.
With that now solved how on earth can you turn a corner like on the top of your binding, the top thread stretches across the corner like a cheap child's machine.

I have struggled with this so much and not found a solution until I came across your video! Thank you !!!
Glad it helped!

Great tips! And, now I know why you call him HD!!!
Thank you for your videos. I have learned so much. I absolutely LOVE my Juki and you've helped me fix several issues. ❤️
Happy to help!
Hello! I hope you are having a delightful day! I just got the chance to sit and watch your video while I hand quilt! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, Gigi! I had never put 2+2 together about the thread cutter being the culprit!
Thanks for answer, however it defeats one of the reasons I purchased a Juki F300. I wanted to use the thread cutter and use the anchoring stitch.
Hi ! Very helpful information. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Thank you for this, however, it does seem crazy that we pay so much for a sewing machine with a cutter and then it doesn’t sew without causing a knot!
Exactly 💯💯💯

If you understand how the machine works, there is no magical way for it to not do it without holding the thread ends. Every machine will do it.
@@melissaabato1099 I do understand that, it just seems crazy that this problem hadn’t been solved.
I know this is off subject but how do you like the chair? I’ve been looking at it.

Great info thank you!
My pleasure!
Thank you great information
Could using the thread cutter while FMQ cause thread jams ?

Hi Gigi! 🙋♀️❤️
HI!!
Hi Gigi, how do you avoid the thread from breaking from the needle, I get a bird nest from the bobbin

I have significant birds nest below (bottom of fabric). How an I clear them off the lower are?
I recommend a small curved scissor.
I seem to get a bird’s nest if I try to sew a lock stitch after I pull the bobbin stitch up. What am I doing wrong?
I want that shirt. Y’all sell them?

It happens on the end too

Just raise it.
THX--I just wanted to make sure it was working right--I love my Juki!

Check your bobbin case for punctures from the needle or any imperfections.
Great tip. I hate that birds nest.
How do you avoid nests when you need to start sewing with a backstitch?
Make sure to pull your threads up before you start sewing :)
I was just complaining about this today! Thank you
Not using cutter? Yikes for peixing it is freat to do chains and cut between so no hand cutting. Bummer
