@@martegausdal6448 I'm currently the harry potter series(I'm on the 5th one) & was eyeing the harry potter books in the left...but I definitely will want to start reading The Percy Jackson series.
I love this list! Especially happy to see Rebecca on the list as I'm writing on it for my MA in English Literature as I read it for my undergrad. The only thing (just as it's a major point of the novel and the themes) is that the 'protagonist' of Rebecca isn't called Rebecca. Rebecca is the dead wife and the protagonist is never named which is vital as the book is about how her identity if affected by the remains of Rebecca's presence in the house. Hopefully, that makes sense - I just didn't want you to get confused when reading it but I hope you enjoy it so much, personally I love it :)
Haha it's okay yeah a lot of summaries about Rebecca do that and it's a little disheartening when people don't like the book simply because summaries aren't clear about that so they get confused :')
I have been meaning to read A Darker Shade of Magic for months now, but it's still just sitting on my shelf, waiting for the right time. I bought the whole series because of how highly you talked about it so its totally at the top of my tar 2018 list!!!! Also, I absolutely love your videos and just the fact that people make youtube videos about books!! None of my friends are readers so I never get to hear what other people think about some of my favorite ones, so thank you!
oh my soul!! i just watched jane the virgin not to long ago i cant wait to get my hands on this book! i just recently found book tube and cant stop adding books to my tbr pile !
they both die at the end ruined me for like 3 days. i knew it was going to hurt going in but it was not the punch in the stomach i thought it was- it was like falling down a stone staircase and hitting every single step in a new part of your body. you think by two thirds of the way down there's no way it can hurt anymore, but there's a new pain each time and you can't stop the momentum and avoid the hurt. it's a great book :)
Hey Hannah just wanted to say thank you for posting videos and awesome content and being just a wonderful person and youtuber. Recently, times have been tough for me and watching your videos makes me so happy and motivates me, so thank you💚💚💚
Thank you so much for your videos! Since I dont live in an English speaking country but do read English, it’s a bit difficult to keep in touch with all the books and new releases, so this makes me really happy and excited! Definitely subscribed!
I really want to read The Book Thief, Turtles all the way down , Eliza and her monsters and The hate you give . Lovely video.Hope you have a wonderful time reading all the books :)
You should try Neil Gaiman’s books if you like fantasy books. His writing is amazing and whimsical and things. He makes fantastic worlds, I think you’ll love him (if you haven’t read his books before).
I would love to see a video at the end of the year in which you kinda look back at this list and talk about the books you've read and the ones you haven't (like to show how many and which ones you read and so on)
The language of thorns is really good. I got it shortly after it came out and read each story. I would recommend getting to that one since it's such a quick read.
As a spaniard it’s so exciting to see spanish authors reaching international readers! I really hope you enjoy The Angel’s Game and I would recommend you to read his other books as well, especially Marina and The Mist Trilogy
Also the audio books for His Dark Materials are really good! I gave them a listen last year and was shocked to find a full voice cast. It really brought the world alive for me.
I'm reading 'All the Light We Cannot See' (Thanks to you!), Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee, and Throne of Glass first! Not sure how I feel about ToG yet, but I've heard so many mixed reviews it's peaked my curiosity as I always feel the need to make my own judgements. Thanks for inspiring me to read, Hannah!
Your makeup is so soft and lovely 😍 I adore your videos because we have a lot of similar tastes~ I also definitely want to get to Language of Thorns this year, can’t believe I didn’t last year! And His Dark Materials trilogy and When the Moon was Ours are others that I agree I want to read this year
His Dark Materials is one of my top favourite series. The Golden Compass is actually my fifth favourite book out of my top 5 favourites and that's because a 9 year old me finally got a kickass female to read about. I would say this book definitely helped me at such a young age and I'm so grateful to the author for writing it. Please give it a read when you have the chance it is amazing.
You're definitely going to cry reading the Princess Diarist! lol Not only because of who wrote it, but what Carrie talks about is also very emotional! I binged it in a day in December and I highly recommend reading it sooner than later!
Hey Hannah, thanks for suggesting all these books. Out of all these i have only read Rebecca and i absolutely loved it and i hope you too. I was a never a reader but since last year i have been reading quite a lot thanks to your videos!😊
girl, about A Tale of Two Cities, you read my thoughts exacly! i had heard a lot about the book and had planed to read it eventually but since TID the book gained so much meaning despite not really knowing much about it
My top three books are Wild Beauty, The Iliad/the Odyssey, and Strange the Dreamer. I just finished Strange the Dreamer, so I’m off to a good start so far!
I enjoyed The Weight of Feathers, but Wild Beauty is blowing me away :) I love magical realism, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I am! I also am hauling That Inevitable Victorian Thing this month and hope to get to it asap.
Thanks for your recommendations Hannah. I enjoy them and I really have come to value your opinion. There have been a few books that you have recommended that I have not connected with but reading is subjective and I really appreciate and look forward to your videos.
A Tale of Two Cities is the best Dickens, and I didn't like Great Expectations, either. I love it. Also, your outfit looks fantastic in this video, Hannah!
I absolutely LOVE Zafon's book. Both his series and stand alone books. Currently I'm trying to get my hands on fourth book in the series but I'm also reading darker shade of magic and sarah j maas' books so I don't really have time because I also attend college. Struggle is real.
Feel you two!! I cannot say how incredibly excited I was when I saw somenone finally reading a Zafon book on Booktube!! I love his writing style and simply every word of his gives warmth to my heart and peace to my soul.
I actually am required to read Persepolis for school so I was surprised to see you hold it up 😮 I’m excited to read it along with you and here your thoughts on it as well!!
The Princess Diarist is on my list too! I've listened to one of Carrie's other autobiographies, Wishful Drinking, on audiobook, and her narration is HILARIOUS! Highly recommend.
Hannah, reading a book referenced in another book is awesome! That is how I became a reader because Twilight mentioned Romeo and Juliet. Then I found Booktube and now my love for reading can't stop. So don't worry about it. Much love from Puerto Rico. God Bless + take care :)
Yay!! I'm happy to see you have read An Ember In The Ashes and loved it! I love this serie so so much! They are in my top 10. I can't wait to read the 3rd book this year!!! 😀 you're the first youtuber I'm following who has read it.
I haven't read That Inevitable Victorian Thing yet but I love EK Johnston's other books that I've read. I've read A Thousand Nights and Spindle by her and I really enjoy her characters and writing style. Also I wish you luck with reading a Tale of Two Cities. It was one of the books I was supposed to read during high school but I'm not someone who enjoyed being forced to read and over analyze books for English classes. 15 year old me barely read any of it and I didn't enjoy what I did read of it but I hope that you can enjoy it.
The His Dark Material series is pretty amazing. One of my all time favorite fantasy books and the concept of the Daemons and what they are and represent always intrigued me. I hope you enjoy the series.
A Torch Against the Night is also on my TBR! I really want to continue the series, especially since the third one is coming out this year too. Whichwood was also incredible! I loved it even more than Furthermore. And The Language of Thorns is wonderful! I 100% support you reading all of Anna-Marie McLemore’s novels! I adore each and every one of them, but The Weight Of Feathers is my absolute favorite 😍 So glad you’re enjoying it so far!
Aaah I'm so excited to read An Ember in the Ashes now, because it's on my 2018 tbr and I don't know why I haven't picked it up yet! Great to hear that you loved it! I've read the first 2 books in the His Dark Materials and I really enjoyed them! Hopefully I'll read the 3rd one soon :) Good luck with your tbr!
Tales From The Shadowhunter Academy is amazing. I wasn't that excited for The Last Hours but after reading this that series was all that was on my mind. I literally can't wait for it to come out. Made me fall in love with James Herondale and Matthew Fairchild. Also great Simon and Jace stuff.
One thing I notice is that books these days have such beautiful covers. I'd pick up 2/3 of the books mentioned in the video just because I loved the cover.
I'm reading a Torch Against the NIght right now, the first 100 pages have been a bit slow, in my opinion. But I really loved the first, An Ember in the Ashes.
I read a Tale of Two Cities twice last year. It's so deep but quite slow. I read it because of the Infernal Devices, and the parallels are AMAZING. I fell deeper in love with Will, which seemed impossible, but Dickens & Clare are just beautiful together. Two Cities is 3 books in 1, the first book is really, really slow & doesn't make that much sense. But the story starts tying together in the 2nd book and comes to a heartbreaking conclusion in the 3rd book. I think the hardest part of Dicken's book is that it's plot driven, but has a lot of heavy character sketches. Tedious reading, but gorgeous characters. And Victoria is such a great show! I'm so excited for Season 2!!!
I read Rebecca last month and I loved it! I couldn't put it down so I hope you like it. And I've owned Tale of Two Cities for years but still haven't read it. It's just sitting there on my shelf, judging me...
Language of Thorns was so beautiful. I mean like...wow! I really loved the first one and the second one....I just liked all of them...my favorite was the sixth though.
I love Jane the virgin! I cried about Michael! I never knew her book actually existed till one day I searched the name of the book just to see and there it was. I didn't believe it was real till you just showed it here. Amazing.
oh my gosh your reason for wanting to read A Tale of Two Cities is exactly the same as my reason for reading it 😂 one of my favourite parts of TID is all the conversations between Tessa and Will about books 😋
YEEEEEEEEP! I'm so glad that you're going to pick up Rebecca cause that's literally the next book on my TBR. :) It's weird how, at first, I heard nothing about it, but now I notice that it's gradually popping up and I'm getting. SO. PUMPED! You look gorgeous as always, and I hope that Tales of Shadowhunter Academy gives you ALL THE EMOTIONS!
Wooo I'm reading A Tale of Two Cities right now also! Personally I think it's rather good. Caution: It's a bit slower (in the beginning at least, I'm only like 140 pages in) and can be difficult to understand if you aren't good at interpreting 18th century English. Definitely worth it though! Has quite a sharp wit, that Dickens does.
I plan on reading The Night Circus, The Book Thief, The Hate U Give, Lost in a Book, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Hollow City, Library of Souls, and the Harry Potter series. I also want to reread The Hobbit
I finally got around to the Torch Against the Night this month and oh boy, it's good! I can't believe I have to wait until June now for the next book! So I suggest you read that book closer to the third book's release date. Also His Dark Materials is so good! Definitely get around to that =] this year I finally want to get around to the more fantasy/scifi classics/favourites like Leviathan Wakes, Ready Player One, The Gunslinger, Lies of Locke Lamora, Dracula, Frankenstein, Dragon Rides of Pern etc.
You got the plot of Rebecca kind of wrong, as a warning for anyone planning on reading it (Rebecca is the name of the dead wife- it's a big point of the novel that the "main character" isn't given a name). It's still a really good book, as is My Cousin Rachel, also by Daphne du Maurier. The film's great too!
I think it's sweet that you are reading Tale of Two Cities because of Will and Tessa. I named my new white violin Carstairs and I am learning the violin because of him so it's sweet.
I plan on reading The Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices Trilogy, and Jesus Behaving Badly by Mark L. Strauss. I will definitely look into most of the books in this video.
Even though you have so many books on your list, I just have to recommend The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. It's one of my favorite series. The premise is there's an interdimentional library that collects books from various alternate universes. There's steampunk, magic, dragoms, far, vampires, and so much more. The first one takes place in a variant of Victorian London. Not enough people talk about this book and I want more people to love it as much as I do. Book 4 in the series just came out and it was wonderful.
The funniest book I have read this year so far is written by a guy called Phil Street. A good dose of British humour. Four men on days out visiting Pubs, Bars and Nosh Houses. Silly banter with a lot of questionable historical fact? Available on Amazon. Days Out (The Funboy3) a catalogue of ridiculous yarns.
But you got the sypnosis VERY wrong. Her husband being or not being in love with his dead wife isn't much of a concern in her discoveries. Rebecca had an everlasting presence for her beauty, wit, class, and sophistication. She felt shadowed by the glory Rebecca had left behind, and also ostracised by those whose expectations she didn't meet. I hope you read it soon. ❤
Rebecca by Daphne Du Marier is one of those thriller gothic novels. It has a dark atmosphere and enigmatic characters! I'd recommend reading it around Halloween. Also, check out the 1940 film adaption--it accurately depicts the story and it's in black and white, so I personally thought it added to the whole sinister-vibe !
I’m in the same boat with you about Tale of Two Cities, I want to read it because of The Infernal Devices. I tried but had trouble with his writing style, I’m hoping to try again when my understanding for more complex language develops.
Tales from Shadowhunters Academy is soooooo good bc it covers stories from mortal instruments but also post-infernal dervices while having its own plot
I've had 'The Bear and the Nightingale' gathering dust on my shelf for the past couple of months, definitely gonna get around to it soon :D (Also, 'Rebecca' is fantastic, one of Du Maurier's best!)
I was just eyeing the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus books in the corner, PJO fans, where you at?
*raises hand*
@@martegausdal6448 I'm currently the harry potter series(I'm on the 5th one) & was eyeing the harry potter books in the left...but I definitely will want to start reading The Percy Jackson series.
Here
I have read the bear and the nightingale and I thought it was a 0.25 book so really bad and I just want to share my anger😠
I love Percy Jackson however I’m a Kane chronicles girl
When you said “they both die at the end” for a second I was like wtf spoiler
You should do like a makeup routine/updated makeup book tag because your makeup gives. me. life.

Caution: It's a bit slower (in the beginning at least, I'm only like 140 pages in) and can be difficult to understand if you aren't good at interpreting 18th century English. Definitely worth it though! Has quite a sharp wit, that Dickens does.
Omygod. I wish I had many books just like yours. Turtle's all the way down caught my attention Hahahaha. I just love John Green's books
I read Whichwood! I think it was pretty good, I really enjoyed the prose.
You’re my FAVOURITE booktuber!! I love you so much
I plan on reading The Night Circus, The Book Thief, The Hate U Give, Lost in a Book, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, Hollow City, Library of Souls, and the Harry Potter series.
I had no idea they actually published Jane’s book . That’s so cute ! I ordered it the second you talked about it . Great video !
Marvin's Square Tie Are you an avid reader?
I think it's sweet that you are reading Tale of Two Cities because of Will and Tessa.
I named my new white violin Carstairs and I am learning the violin because of him so it's sweet.
I plan on reading The Mortal Instruments series, The Infernal Devices Trilogy, and Jesus Behaving Badly by Mark L. Strauss. I will definitely look into most of the books in this video.
That Inevitable Victorian Thing sounds so good! Good luck with your 2018 reading!
I've actually really been wanting to read that one! Hopefully I can pick it up soon! Thank you for the rec 💜
A Clockwork Reader I hope you love it as much as I do. Favorite books series. It gives me so many feelings.
a tale of two cities was the first book i read for school that i thoroughly enjoyed definitely a great great read
Rebecca is one of my books to read this year as well. I'm halfway through and it is pretty amazing.
Also, check out the 1940 film adaption--it accurately depicts the story and it's in black and white, so I personally thought it added to the whole sinister-vibe !
so many good recommendations!! i must read some of these as well, they sound really interesting
Persepolis is amazing. We read it in class. Just a note though, the movie goes into Persepolis 2 so if you don’t want spoilers, read that first.
I read The Princess Diarist like two weeks ago and I cried. I loved it!
I’m in the same boat with you about Tale of Two Cities, I want to read it because of The Infernal Devices. I tried but had trouble with his writing style, I’m hoping to try again when my understanding for more complex language develops.
I am basically buying all these books because your recommendations are AWESOME!
Tales from Shadowhunters Academy is soooooo good bc it covers stories from mortal instruments but also post-infernal dervices while having its own plot
I've had 'The Bear and the Nightingale' gathering dust on my shelf for the past couple of months, definitely gonna get around to it soon :D
(Also, 'Rebecca' is fantastic, one of Du Maurier's best!)
