- In this video we go hiking on a volcano, through the rainforest to see the crater rim at the top. St. Kitts is one of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles and is home to the dormant volcano Mount Liamuiga. Mount Liamuiga offers an epic hike to the volcano crater.
Mount Liamuiga is a stratovolcano and has the highest point on St. Kitts at 3,792-foot (1,156 m). The mountain sides of Liamuiga are filled with farmland, villages and rainforest.
For those looking to experience the natural beauty on the island of St. Kitts beyond the beaches, Mount Liamuiga is a great destination.
The hike up the mountainside to the volcano rim is challenging but beautiful. Those who make it to the top get to enjoy views into the lush volcano crater and beautiful blue views of the Caribbean Sea.
This video captures footage throughout our entire experiencing hiking to the volcano crater rim of Mount Liamuiga. We booked our hiking tour with O'Neil Tours. O'Neil grew up on the island of St. Kitts and his family practiced "Bush Medicine".
When we started doing research on hiring a guide for this hike, we started to see O'Neil's name mentioned in the reviews. Thanks for posting. About how long was the hike, including transportation to and from the trailhead? I booked a cruise that visits St Kitts for 8 hours. I'm wondering if that's enough time to get to and from the ship and make the climb. Thank you.
From what we recall it was around 6 hours total, but our guide also took us to a couple of landmarks after the hike, so we probably could have done it in 5 hours or less total.
what the total time of the hike?
It's been a while now and we don't recall exactly, but I think we were on the trail for around 4 hours or so. We also spent a lot of time filming though and taking in the scenery, so it could possibly be hiked faster especially if you are an experienced hiker and are in really good shape.
I did that exact same hike in January! And wow was it amazing! The only problem was that for the next two days after I groaned whenever I sat down due to aching leg muscles.
It really is an amazing and challenging hike! Did you do it with O'neil or any of this sons? We absolutely loved having O'neil as a guide are were curious if he's still climbing that mountain every day!
We would totally hike a volcano, its actually on our bucket list haha! I know we've said it before, but this hike looks so epic!

Those routes from the trees looked so difficult to climb around! You guys did well😅 the crater looked so cool and way greener than you’d expect. We’ve only seen mount Vesuvius volcano and it was dusty and gravely inside. This one looks beautiful!
The routes were challenging, but very manageable with an incredible guide like O'Neil. I wouldn't want to hike in this area without a guide for sure! When Skylar said he wanted to climb on a volcano i was like 🙄 but then when I realized we would be hiking through a rain forest, I quickly got on board. Thanks so much for watching!

What was the distance and time requirements for this hike?
Hi Michelle. The hike was about 5 miles total. It took us about 2 hours up and 1 hour back. We moved pretty slow though as we were filming and I also was nursing a knee injury. If you ever get a chance to do this hike, we'd highly recommend it!
By the color of the water id say it has sulphur.

Thanks so much for watching, we absolutely loved this hiking experience. Keep in mind we completed this hike in 2020, right before the pandemic, i honestly do not recall the price, but I would expect it would have gone up since then (as has been the case for almost everything!). We booked a private tour with our guide, so it was just the two of us. The cruise were were on did offer this as an excursion but it would have been with a much larger group. I think this was around a 6 hour experience (but again it was several years ago so my memory may be a little off). We did take water and snacks with us to enjoy at the rim of the volcano. I hope this helps!

Rubber Leaf Tree seems so strong! Wow you guys are so brave, I would be afraid to try to swing, it requires some strength! Love the nature and beautiful kinds of trees, so nice you had a great guide! I would feel so sore after two days of climbing, but the views are so worth the pain!

There are some pomelos , raspberries. and manciport fruits up in those hills. The Pomelo is a family to the grapefruit. The man must be talking about the guavaberry tree.
We love pomelos and raspberries, but have never heard of manciport. Next time we visit St. Kitts, we'll keep an eye out for them!
@@Explorcation, the manciport looks like a melon. It is brown on the outside. The skin is brown.It is orange on the inside. Most of the manciport trees are in the mountains. The trees are almost extinct because the younger people are not planting fruits often enough. So many fruit trees were all over St Kitts in the early 70s.

@@Explorcation I hope so too. A lot of produce can grow in that place but the younger generation won't make time for it. When I went to visit my aunt in 2019 there were about 40 pomegranates on one shrub. It was December and there were three shrubs filled with pomegranates.
What a beautiful hike! It’s a good idea to go with a such a knowledgeable guide. Wow the view is so worth it. I loved seeing all the vegetation as well, especially those banyan like trees. 😊

We highly recommend any visitors wanting to hike Mt Liamuiga to hire a guide. Some areas were marked well and others were not. We heard stories of people getting lost and having to be rescued 😳 so we were so thankful to have connected with ONeil.

Great video guys! Just realized you guys are pretty much Tarzan and Jane! Haha! The top of the view with the crater is STUNNING! You guys always find the coolest places, but some of those hikes are pretty rough especially when you are going more steep! Thanks for sharing as always!
I was sooo excited to swing on the jungle vine, which is why I had to do it several times 😂 we were so lucky earlier this year to visit some of the places we have.
