It's funny that by 1970, most of the Nascar modifieds were still pre-war coupes. They didn't look anything like these hulks; chopped, lowered, and super sleek, but they still used the coupe bodies. I guess the tradition was just that strong.
Wow, What a gem. Thanks a lot. One of the prettiest things I've seen in a while. It's like a dream watching it. I was born in 59, and these ghosts were still around when I was young.
Awesome! NASCAR footage from the 40's is super rare!
Wow, these uploads just get better and better!
Color for a race this old?? Wow!
It wasn’t filmed in color. Color Footage filmed before the 60s has usually been colored over by someone like technicolor or something.
@@weston9106 ~yes or something, that's about exactly what I expected out of you to say. Really shows your knowledge on the times.
@@WitchKing-Of-Angmar I'm pretty sure there was color motion picture photography available by the late 1940s in some of its earlier versions, though it involved expensive complicated processing. Whatever this is it sure looks better than the digital colorizing that makes most cars look like some shade of drab purple.

You better be more than sure fella, not only is this color, but color film has existed since the 1900s. Original process was called..mh, something I have it saved.
Color in it's normalcy has existed in wide use since the 1930s, thought there were people who had color cameras in the 1920s aka dufaycolor and Cinecolor. Kodachrome color cameras rare as soot and Autochromes which were more common. There's a whole 900 picture gallery of a 1926 color trip to Canada. A lot of dark gray vehicles... though it's unsaturated over time, and canada had a huge population of black and gray vehicles compared to Chicago (in refrence to downtown moosejaw)

I didn't even know there was nascar footage from this year
Wow. This is cool footage. I’ve seen footage from this race in black and white but never in color. Cool upload.
The 22 car was Gordon Magnum, not sure which year he won it
I thought it was Red Byron
Thank you for sharing this f__king amazing film
Why did NASCAR decide to remove the ramps from the tracks? Bring them back!
Uhh? Where? Which track?
Lionin Houston NASCAR cars these days are much faster than they used to be, so I think it would be pretty dangerous.
Crazy to think that this was a NASCAR race
0:10 YO ITS DOC HUDSON
That 21 car had been there since the beginning, the font still looks the same.
This right here is what started everything 75 years ago.
Nascar needs to do a throwback race on the original course.
nice upload...great quality
Was this in cup series?
No
To be exact, this was the Modified series.
Thanks

Good racing videos
This just shows how skilled these people were to be driving 130+ in those hunks of steal on sand lol
wao , le numéro 3 avec une voiture neuve , a 1;21
The sport had more in common with modern rallycross than NASCAR at that point in time
It feels supper slow compared to the nowadays races that it almost feels surreal, car racing sure has come far. Im excited to see how races in 10, 20 or 30 change
🙄 supper slow that's not slow, you're looking at a camera angling towards where it's going, making the perspective vague.
speed up to 1.5x speed for the original speed
COOL
I think that is some of Raymond Parks footage he made .
What happened to all of those cars?
Someone _really_ needs to invent a time machine!
This race was win by Red byron!
Where they racing or preliminary laps ?
why they going slow
Because it was 1949
