If you search for a youtuber called MangoSirene, she does vids for both sides of cosplay and cons, with showing how she makes certain characters come to life with some tips on them and basic cosplay things, and also her own con experiences :)

does cosplay mean that you try to look like some character that already exists or can i just create my own creature and play it?
I'm not an expert in terms of cosplay, but I think both options are fine. You can also take an existing character and modify it or recombine it with something else.
***** well, i like the cosplay events and like the characters that are hanging around there, but i really prefer creating my own world. maybe not always with a complete story for that world, but i like what is there in my mind. i have done LARP in the last 2 year, but some of the stories that they play there are not really what i like and my character always must stick to story(not really, but if its a fantasy event with dragons, you can't go there with an iron man costume)
In cosplay the only rule is to have fun. You can create your own character or an existing or hybrid of both.
mehr schwein You can cosplay your own original characters! Jessica and Holly from Heroes of Cosplay cosplayed their own original characters from Dungeons and Dragons. You could totally do something like that!
cosplay just means costume play. Its open to any kind of interpretation!! Generally it means you're in a costume [possibly in-character] outside of theater or halloween XD

it would be a pain in the ass for me to go to work with my costume everyday, but it would be sic, i have a 60+ pound chainmail, that incudes the steel titbia protectors, the chainmail itself and the coif. (not including the shield lol)

i actually had to run 8h in the woods with it once, i usely just walk, so its not as bad, if you ever get a chance, look up bicolline (the website is only in french) but you can get videos on youtube, i was in a 40 on 40 battle (on a weekend in june), goes up to 1k+ at the great battle in august, takes cosplay to a holl new lvl lol
