I just did it and it worked IC-705 (US version) Thank you so much!. I Only used small slanted cut de-soldering tip( not much luck with a point tip) @ 390 degrees (centigrades) almost the same size as the soldering on the diode (to avoid damaging neighbouring components), no flux, and not hot air. It took less than a minute to bubble under the component (used cheap digital microscope from amazon). A that point I switched to the other side and applied minimum force sideways. They came off clean, one at a time. It took a lot of practice with an old iPhone since this is my first time doing any of this. Removed surface components for one afternoon after I felt confident enough to do it on my brand new radio!. It was intimidating at some points but im so glad I did it. Good luck guys!
This is just what i need! I'm trying to minimize my radio equipment (running out of space) and whith this mod, i can remove the cb (older, big station model) I bought the 705 for it's size and HF/vhf/uhf combination, adding cb capability is just awesome! Thanks Andy! ❤ Subscribed!

I have an Icom IC-718 and an Icom IC-728, both full coverage HF ham radios. The 718 is a fairly new radio, has been around more than 20 years, but you can still find them new. I understand they are being discontinued. The 728 is a much older radio, last made in 1992. They are both much larger and heavier than the IC-705. They are intended to be used as base stations. I consider the 728 the best radio, it has a triple conversion superheterodyne receiver, something you just don't see anymore. It does not have menus and is not programmable. Both put out 100 watts max. The 728 has what is known in the U.S. as a MARS mod, which allows it to work on 11 meters SSB, both transmit and receive. The 718 can be converted, but it is much harder to do, and I don't want to ruin it. I would never try what you just did. Good way to ruin an almost $1400 radio.

@@DontM8-__- it won’t. I did the mod and it only will TX up to around 457 mhz. If you have another radio close by monitoring gmrs and you are transmitting on same freq after mod you will hear it on other radio but I think it’s coming from the portion of the radio that hasn’t went thru the amplification circuit yet. With a watt meter you will see there is virtually no output power on gmrs. Maaaybe .01watt.
Everyone else I have found is having the same results after the mod.
Dang thank you for the heads up!!
@@DontM8-__- No problem buddy. Still works on 11 meters and I think Mars freqs.
@@tracym427 Do you know what the expanded TX freq ranges are for all the bands? I can't find anyone who's listed it. Interested in MURS like 154.6
So 27.781 is channel 19? Around here channel 19 is on 27.185
Nice! RWB
Sounds good nice little mod, I have two Handheld CB radios I will have to bring them back to life and see if any body is in my area not used them for years as nobody has been on.
I'm looking at getting into radios, don't really know were to start but I will say I laughed at the end of the video as I'm also a synth man.
Like I can see you're a Roland fan. I had a Roland w30 years ago and more recently a JDXi and still have the MX1 mixer from the aira line. I've gone full Analogue lately.
Must be some crossover there with how the mind works.
Anyway cool video man.
Subscribed and hopefully I'll figure this game out at some point.
Haha! Yeah great minds think alike! I'm going to do a video soon about getting in to radio. Thanks for subscribing, welcome to the channel.
Well better with a ham radio on cb them a $500 spatter box from the truck stop ... I love my ft-818 for this stuff

Breaker breaker even though on ham radio of you say Break Break it means you have A emergency 😅 73’s 😊
