That's what the Fara-J is basically. Look them up. The link is in the description. But yes, I have three kits. All of them have the "Survival Antenna" sold on Amazon by the Army Veteran. I have some nano-cord and a 10 foot length of rj 316 to help gain some height. The 316 chews up only 2-3 watts so the height benefit over the wattage loss is a win.
Thanks Scott, heard ya today on sarnet. Was trying to get out to suggest a battery option but this new radio configuration has been a talk the past few days. Thanks for putting your TH-cam out there I searched right away. I have been thinking of doing something similar with the QB25 I currently have in my truck. In an ammo can setup using a trailer breakaway battery or two. I am replacing the QB25 with a yaesu FT-857D. So anyway enough of that. Thanks again Scott, I will be keeping my ears open for ya on the network. 73 KO4KML
Those AGM batteries are ok and cost a lot less, BUT the LifePo4 will give you all of the gusto whereas the lead acid will only give you about half before the voltage drops below 11 volts.
Looks great. Amazon has lots of mixed reviews on this radio. It looks great though, and I'm looking for a small rig like that. Is it true you could transmit on GMRS too?
@@Suffocation03 FTM? That’s the mobile in my service vehicle. I have an FTM-300 in a man pack. I have a 200 I’m currently using as a base just to get some time on the mic.
It's a lot more expensive than what Pat is using but eh, You only live once. And the battery, it's only a 6 ah but you'll get all 6. With agm you'll only get about half.
Are you in Florida? I signed up with the “Pasco county GMRS radio group”, and I’m studying for the technician ticket. That’s a really cool setup you put together. Would that work for a mobile, base station?
@@Rusted_Link very cool. I don’t know how to calculate “as the crow flies” on the map app from my cellular device, but we’re less than 50 miles apart. Maybe one day when I get a bigger antenna or build me a unit like that, we could make contact.

48 hours on standby with the backlight set to turn off after 10 seconds. The radio draws 3 amps at 20 watts. With a 6 AH battery you should be able to rag chew for a solid 2 hours of TX.

I see your list of stuff, but I am unsure how it all goes together. Where does the aluminum go and the Fara-J if you also have the Signal Stuff Signal Stick? Can you do a build for this, please?
Problem is if things really go south the government will shut down civilian access to the gps sat signals and you can kiss all gps/aprs capability goodbye.
All that comms is cool if youre part of a proper rescue/ emergency response team. But what is the intended purpose or application of this micro pack.? I guess its cool to carry on a hike to high ground for QSOs. I see many assemble these like somehow theyre going to be at the forefront coordinating emergency/ rescue/ recovery efforts. I guess you could use it to stay in touch with all the guys in your " unit" as you ward off communistas and fed bad guys??
For God's sakes man Don't overanalyze it this is just a way to carry a compact radio so you can have it where you are when you are. You live way too much into this.
Hunt around, they may be cheaper elsewhere. I was at Ace yesterday and they have the aluminum. Radioddity had the DB25-D on sale two days ago. The Maxpedition FRP First Response Pouch is a little taller and wider but .5" narrower. I'm thinking about building another in that pouch. I feel the antenna would need to come out of the back though.
GMRS requires a type accepted radio and i doubt this Model has that approval certification.
But in an emer... come on. Hasn't this been worn out by now?
Great setup and powerful enough to get out and work some repeaters/ stations. Kudos!
Awesome setup!!!! That would look good in the foliage green color Maxpedition pouch.
@@MrStanwyck I used what I had.
that is an amazing setup
Gave me some ideas. Use an APRS HT and amplifier for 50 watts, about the same size package. Thanks
Build it, share it, tag me! I like new ideas.
nice setup... well done
you might also think about adding a jungle antenna and some type of-wraps to put it together in the field

Maybe, but that's just a fluffy cute aspect of this radio.
They won’t, to much depends on gps, pilots and the radio systems that they themselves use. Way to many things that effect life safety to turn it off
APRS does not depend on GPS (or GNSS), it's just a packet radio network.
