    I’m very glad Volvo largely maintained the same shape and design as it’s predecessor, while delivering a very modern and beautiful design, and didn’t take on the typical egg shape (aka the Mercedes EQS suv) that many EVs are sadly taking on. I love this car! If I had $80,000 I would buy it one.

      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure that's a great idea but we'll see. It may age quicker or people won't really see it as new. And I think this car actually looks more like a larger version of the smaller XC60 than the current XC90 in its profile at least. I like that it is angular but so is the Polestar 3 which I find the more modern and striking looking of the big Volvo or Polestar SUVs.

      I personally don't care that much about the shape of an SUV because SUVs just don't look that good in general. I want the best efficiency possible because efficiency makes everything better. You also get more space which means you can have a smaller vehicle for the same amount of space which makes it lighter and increases efficiency even more.

    If I were looking for an electric SUV, the EX90 would be the one I'd go with if we're basing it solely on design. It may not be as aerodynamic as the EQS SUV, but some people would sacrifice a little bit of range and get an attractive vehicle instead.

    • @Bembli

      I always thought this before but now more than ever Volvo, like many other manufacturers (Hyundai/KIA/Land Rover) are copying Cadillac’s signature design language with the lines, boxier silhouettes and vertical LED lighting. I’m not even talking about how so many have started implementing curved displays in the interiors since the debut of the new Escalade. It’s so corny that so many want to mimic or put out sorta their own renditions of Cadillac exterior designs. I need more originality especially from luxury brands like Volvo.

    To me it feels a little bit BMW inspired in certain points. Main part is the third window, between C and D pillar, it goes up at the bottom, like the BMW X3 has it since it exists. Also the lines in the bonnet really remind me of the lines on the bonnet on the 7 series (new and old one). Not that that bonnet styling should be BMW exlusive, two people can come up with the same idea on their own. Maybe it's for some reason a trend? The Lucid Air also has this bonnet styling, even more extreme with the air outlets over the headlights.

    Volvo definitely makes some of the best looking cars, very clean and elegant. However the screens remind me too much of the Mach-e, and not in a good way. I don’t care for this design trend at all but maybe that’s what buyers want 🤷🏽‍♂️. Although I would love to see a more traditional housing for the instrument cluster, probably that would look out of place as well in such a minamlistic interior. So I suggest making the screen a little more stylish like Cadillac or Lucid do, and not just an ugly rectangle.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว

      THose are horizontal plane screens. The disadvantage of the Cadillac screen is the reach to the right of functions and also looking more to the right. For portrait, it's how far down you have to look. Every design has its plusses and minuses. I don't prefer the Cadillac's screen and think the Lyric's interior is not as nice. Lucid? It's good. But it's not the mature design that Volvo/Polestar are. I actually think Rivian does better with design.

    I don’t think that light bar for the taillights is even real! They don’t seem to light up.
    The top and bottom pieces for the taillights looks disjointed. They should have followed the design language of modern Volvo wagons/hatchbacks/SUVs by having one long snaking line of light that extends up to the top of the rear glass and not have that break just below the bottom edge of the rear glass.
    Otherwise it’s a very modern clean and handsome SUV, it’s definitely understated and even resembles a larger-scaled XC60 from the side. It will age gracefully just like the outgoing generation did. If you want something with more style and sportiness, its sister, the Polestar 3 is your answer.

    Beautiful face, very impressive, but it looks too much like a Polestar. The first Polestar car, the Polestar 1, looked like a Volvo (in fact in was a Volvo concept initially, put into production under Polestar, so it was understandable). But now that Polestar eventually finds its own design language with the distinctive high-tech T-shape lights on front and the square led bars on the back, Volvo copies it! They should really diverge and find their own way.

      Volvo is owned by a private Chinese company. They design/engineer/manage the cars in Sweden and Swedish ethics go into the car. The monitoring is safety related and not unlike the monitoring going on in other makes.

    Nope, that iPad looks like crap in the middle of the dash. I have an S90 and glad it has the Sensus infotainment, it certainly fits the styling with the rest of the interior. 300 mile range isn't much and would be considerably less if carrying a couple of passengers or a load. Beautiful exterior though.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว

      The s90 has a small screen for this age of vehicles. Yes, it's a beautiful interior but if you put a 15 inch screen integrated into the dash, the dash wouldn't be streamline like this car's is. I think with the way the trim dips down and becomes a backlight, the display works fine. I don't love screens but I don't have a big problem with the way Volvo presents it on this dashboard.
      As far as the UI goes, this is much more advanced than the Sensus. I think when the car comes out the demos of the UI will reveal this.

    yeah im not a big fan of an ipad as a digital gauge cluster, it gives a boring product feel. Some people like it because they have never seen something like it, i think i saw the trend start in a mercedes, where i got my first negative impression of this styling. but some people like it because theyve never seen it before, but im still on the preference of a housing for he gauge cluster

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like it. But, the screen offers flexibility and upgradability over static buttons. The whole operating system can update how one interacts with the car and add function to the car. For instance, more safety features can be accessed through a screen that are controlled by software compared to if the screen wasn't there. I would like to still see neat, multipurpose buttons in a portion of the console and smaller screens. Maybe how Porsche and Audi do it. Japanese cars are mostly staying with buttons but they have add-on screens that don't look great either.

    I own an XC90. Love it. The EX90 looks almost the same but without a grill. The interior of mine has the infotainment screen built into the dash as part of its design. This new one has a couple of iPads stuck on a dash, just like every other EV. And those headlights look like Lego bricks, not the full straight LEDs of the original. In my opinion as a loyal Volvo owner: a lazy design because it just updates the original with no imagination, a missed opportunity to get me excited about the brand. Sad to say, my next car probably won't be a Volvo. I'm still debating the feasibility of an EV in the Canadian Prairies, but if I was forced to buy one at over $100k CAD, then it would probably be the Mercedes EQE. Sorry Volvo.

    • @benjaminsmith2287
      @benjaminsmith2287 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have your taste and opinion but I don't think it is fair to call the design "lazy." They did pay attention to many details. It's hard to make a transition car and that's what Volvo is trying to do. I think integrating the screens would add to much bulk to the dashboard. At least the large one is placed in a dip-down shape where it floats in the Polestar 3.

      I guess my biggest point is the Polestar 3 and Volvo EX90 are very close sister cars. They share a lot of components and actual physical design. There's not nearly that much shared with Lotus. In fact, little that I can think of. Lotus doesn't share at least the parts of the interior that passengers interact with but you'll find a lot of the same things in the Polestar 3 that you have in the Volvo EX90.

    12:04 The iPad design similar to what Tesla uses, looks so cheap and tacky the way it's integrated ( or NOT ) into the dash. Not smooth and seamless flowing at all. It almost looks like a graphical version of a clipboard. Not at all stylish. It just doesn't blend with the dashboard well. Just like Tesla unfortunately.
