Love Aaj Kal - Movie summary
Jai (Saif Ali Khan)and Meera (Deepika Padukone) is a modern day couple in London. They are very happy together but do not believe in tying each other down. So when life pulls them in different directions, they decide to go with the flow. "These Heer Ranjha, Romeo Juliet type janam janam ka saath type couples exist only in story books", Jai says. In the real life, we have to be practical, says Jai. In another place and time, Veer Singh is struck by the thunderbolt when he sees Harleen for the first time. Soon after, he stands under a tree and swears that "is janam mein aur har janam mein yehi meri votti banegi Harleen Kaur." He travels a thousand kilometres by train to stand under her balcony only to have a glimpse of her face. And yet not speak a word with her. That was 1965 Calcutta. Today as Veer and Jai meet, Veer does not understand how Jai can treat matters of the heart without passion, like a financial transaction. Jai does not understand how Veer Singh could have been so naïve and silly about Harleen in the days of his youth. But as both stories unfold, we realize that the process of relationship might be different in different eras, but the experience of being in love remains the same. So there is the frolic and despair of modern living. The liberation and confusion. And there is the times of innocence and compulsion in the past. It's funny how songs can bring back emotions in the exact same intensity as when they were felt. This movie was released when I was with my ex who was also my best friend of 8 years. We had just started dating and he had to leave for his studies to a different city. I could never listen to this entire song without tearing up and the 3 years that we dated, I never did. It's been 8 years since we broke up, we both have moved on and life has changed, but the song brings back memories of how it EXACTLY made me feel 11 years ago.

Yogesh Kumar lol it annoys me when a great song like this song has to be linked to someone I once was in love with!...I can't even listen to it without getting sad. It's not the person I end up missing..It's the memories I end up missing! But yeaa you are right!! We all ARE puppets of time and destiny! GOod words! :)

Honestly speaking; when i listen this song then i just smile on my past life...there were days when i used to cry after listening this bt now i just smile and recall her face and start doing my work.. Yogesh Kumar wow I wish I was strong like you, to be able to smile while listening to this song! This song depresses me because of the memories and the guy. This song, as well as kaise mujhe tum mil gayi and Piya O Re Piya (Atif Aslam version) remind me of that guy, but mostly the memories and reminds me of how happy and in love I was. those were our songs. The reason it hurts me soo bad at the same time is because of the way things ended. His bestfriend, who had a huge crush on me for years, (but is now married), started spreading nasty rumors and lies about me to my ex and to other guys that are friends with him...I was basically shamed in front of them, and was given a bad image. all because of jealousy and hate. And the guy I was in love with didn't even bother to talk to me asking me if those lies and rumors were true..he instead believed his dumb best friend and left me alone after saying dirty things about me too behind my back because he was influenced by his friends to do so. So this "love" ended unexpectedly and I was left with no closure and no goodbyes!...it was a VERY harsh and dark time for me. I felt used and disgusted. :( EVerything that felt so perfect, felt like hell just moments later!

She used to sing this song everytime we went through a conflict. It was such a blessing to have her in my life for more than a decade. I became everything I am today because of her , she held my hand through all the ups and downs and it didn't take much for me to become a coward who couldn't take a stand when it mattered the most. I felt uneasy one day out of the blue unaware of the fact that she was getting married the very same day. I tried calling her in a hope to win her back but someone else picked the phone and I couldn't speak. I wish I had tried a bit earlier but I didn't and my world came crashing down when I got to know of the marriage 2 days later. Now she is gone forever and I am left with these memories for a lifetime. With her all the sunshine in my life is gone, and I am learning to live with it. I lost my most priced possession and these dooriyaan have now become a harsh reality.
