@@himaririku5289 despite being deaf, is someone who born normal will actually can not let out a single word or sounds? When yichan lost his hearing, he still able to talk. However, when adult yichan see that his family in danger, he never tried to at least call his son's name, just like when his house burned. Not a single word of frustration like when a fully fuction people be in a normal situation. Because deaf is not same with mute. Mute people can not let out any sound despite trying. But deaf people can still practicing to talk despite them not hearing anything.

I assumed he sort of lost his ability to speak because when he became deaf, he cut off all his contacts with his friends and probably everyone he knew aside from his grandma. So from that point on, he never really had a chance to continue and practice his speaking ability. Plus I think, he lost all his motivation to continue speaking since he can't hear his own voice. The same with his passion in music. I'm assuming with people who become deaf later in life, speaking will be something that you'll need to put more effort into.
As for the scene with the fire, I think it's just simply for narrative's sake that it was not shown that he attempted to call for Eun Gyeol.
