Same! I've bought everything from body wash to car parts on Amazon. Every time my husband thinks he has found something to stump me with I'm like, "got it and it will be here in two days!" When the pandemic first started, and I couldn't sleep, I would window shop on Amazon. My "save for later" list is astounding! Lol

Having traveled around in an older motorhome I can tell you that a knowledge of how your systems work is extremely important when you break down in the middle of nowhere. One of the things you need to have in your van is a set of tools and fasteners. You may need screws, washers, nails, bolts as well as electrical tape, duct tape, screwdrivers, wrenches and a hammer.

Grinder is now in the bin, turns out the safety was faulty.

It is a good learning experience for both of you. Thankfully, Nate's dad and mom were close by to offer their expertise and loving support. Never take your parents for granted. Enjoyed watching your video today, even with the real experience of having to do something for 3x more time than it should have taken. Stay safe, keep cool in the heat, and be good. When you start exploring the US, you're going to find in very short order that you were born in an astoundingly beautiful and varied country. Just think about this. In the north of Alaska, there's the Arctic. Hawaii is tropical, and much of the far South is subtropical. There's the desert SW, Creole French spoken in the LA bayous, Hawaiian mixed with English in Hawaii, national parks that people come from around the world to see, etc, etc. Just for fun this past winter, I picked 2 cities for the present temperature. Honolulu was sitting at 90F, and the same moment, Fairbanks was at -40; that's a 130 degree temp. span in the same country. I could say more, but I think I've made my point.

For the table, you just need to make a detachable leg that you can put on the the wobbly side that doesn’t have any support. You can probably attach some brackets to the bottom to lock it in, and then remove the leg and store it/the table when you’re not using it.

If you're gonna hit the road, you need to give your van a name as it's the new member of your travelling team. I would like to suggest 'Christopher' (patron saint of travellers). Hey, I wonder if the previous owners of the van are watching what you are doing!

This is a lot of work! What I admire about you, Nate, is you never give up. (Thank you Dad & Mom for your support!) I'm sure working on this was hot and frustrating. Kara, I relate to you as well because I have no skills in the areas you mentioned either. I'm glad you are traveling the U.S. I think you will find some amazing discoveries ... and we all get to watch!

This video brings back memories of my dad because he built a wodden "cabin" onto the back of a station wagon back in the 1970s. I was just a little kid but it was so much fun to play inside there. My dad was pretty smart and creative.

Good renovation checklist. Runs stronger, less hold ups in the end 💟 For back window cover, could do a stick on hook and thread a loop of braided cloth to corners thru grommet. Maybe do a drilled silicone plug that will fit to hold it snug.

The advantage of building your own anything from scratch is that you know everything from the bottom up. You know where are all the wires are going because you put them there. Plus you have full freedom to have everything how you want it. It's very hard & challenging at times but very rewarding to create.

Having good storage bins/containers is super useful! Be careful with glass/normal dishes as they can break in transit. My parents use melamine/metal/plastic/similar in their RV. Cleaning glass is a pain and can really hurt! If you use anything breakable, make sure to pack it carefully and protect it before travel.
