Popcorn It's not uncommon for artists to segment parts of a composition into individual songs or tracks, even if they are meant to be a cohesive piece. This is one such example. You see it a lot more with much longer pieces of music, Pink Floyd did it a LOT....they actually played a big part in pioneering the idea that the entirety of a rock album could be a whole, fluent composition, rather than just a compilation of unrelated parts. It's not uncommon to hear the first few tracks of Dark Side of the Moon played successively, with Time being the main act that the others simply lead up to. They also did it with their songs Pigs on the Wing, and Shine On You Crazy Diamond - although in both those cases, they put other songs between the two parts. System of a Down did the same thing with two parts to Soldier's Side, but on two different albums. The electronic artist Shpongle has an album of about 20 tracks, which is really just one big, constantly evolving composition broken into much smaller parts, and this is so much the case that it's almost impossible for me to hear a random track from it on shuffle and not immediately queue up the rest of the album in proper order.
I used to almost exclusively listen to music by the album, letting each track lead to the next in proper order. I don't do so as much anymore, but from having done that so much, I still, if certain songs comes up on shuffle, expect to hear the song that comes after when it ends. In some cases, the sequence is so ingrained in my memory that if I turn the music off right at the end of a song, I'll have the song that follows stuck in my head for the rest of the day - even though it never started playing. For this reason, I can understand the expectation for We Are The Champions to follow We Will Rock You, and how someone might feel like the experience was left incomplete without it.
Brain Damage/Eclipse by Pink Flyod and Holiday/Boulevard of Broke Dreams by Green Day are the same way. Pretty sure they're split for the sake of radio play since songs between 3 and 4 minutes get played more, more room for ads.
