Morgan is a Julliard School graduate and trained opera singer. However when she was graudated she realized her heart was more Aretha Franklin rather than Maria Callas. She has one of the best voices there is today!!
Morgan James graduated from the Juillard School in New York as a classically trained singer. The school only accepts between five and eight percent of applicants to the school. So you have to be pretty good just to get into the school.

She has background in both Broadway and Opera. With these sorts of qualifications, it's no wonder she knocked this song out of the ball-park. It's very rare to see anyone match him yet Morgan James not only accomplished it but *twisted* it into her own thing. Please do PMJ's Caroline Baran's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters."
I absolutely love watching folks react to Morgan James and their shock at her vocal skills. The term you were looking for is vibrato. When your voice wobbles as you hold a note. As for more songs to check out, I have yet to hear a bad one. But some of my PMJ favorites are Take Me to Church, Barbie Girl, and All About That Bass with Casey Abrams, Haley Reinhardt, Morgan James, and Ariana Savalas. From Morgan's channel, all of her Aretha Franklin covers are excellent, Come Together, and her duet with Haley Reinhardt singing Dear Prudence is excellent. Come Together is impressive because she, her husband playing guitar and a friend playing the trash can were jamming in the kitchen. Dear Prudence was impressive because they were chilling on a couch and creating some of the best harmonies you can hear. I really hope you continue down the Morgan James and PMJ rabbit hole!!!
Morgan is one of a kind. When it comes to 20th century American styles (Jazz, Blues, Soul, etc), she's my #1 in the world today. She has the sultry warmth, but with power and an upper-midrange punch that cuts right through. She's kind of like if you had a laser canon that was powered by the blues. You should check out her cover of 'Take Me To Church'.
nice reaction mimi...morgan james is an amazing singer and performer and fits perfectly with the postmodern jukebox family. she is very different than my favorite haley reinhart but exceptional in her own way. she is opera trained from julliard. this performance is stunning and her best one... imho. the string arrangement is also superb and i think is the same muscians and stage used in the pmj/haley cover "black hole sun". the way the guy on the cello plucks it like a guitar after her first run is super cool (never seen that before). morgan performs with haley on "all about the bass" which is the second most popular behind "creep" and even filmed the same day.
