Equal to Levi's powerful delivery and the guys' subtle backup, towering credit goes to H-D-H and the Funk Brothers. Motown was innovative perfection and this song is a stellar example.
I don’t remember hearing any group squabbles within the Tops, as with the Temps. That’s why I believe the Tops endured “til death do us part.” The quality of these groups will never be duplicated.
I had the pleasure of seeing the Four Tops in concert a couple of times just before Levi Stubbs got ill. And, his voice was just as strong and pure as it was on the song. What a God given gift! The other Tops' harmony was still tight as well. 😀👍👍👍👍✌
It's a damn shame that this song was not even a top 10 hit for The 4 Tops! Levi Stubbs gives one of his best singing performances on this classic! Check out the unreleased version of this track by The 4 Tops and The Supremes- It's a knockout and on TH-cam!
Im blessed to have grown up with their gifts of such phenomenal talent. Levis voice reached into my heart and came to stay when I was just a kid of 9 yrs old. I danced to their songs with my girlfriends in our basements. We sang, danced our asses off blasting Motown, the Delphonics, Supremes, Temps, all those amazing voices! We created our own white girl dance steps, but we could dance! My friends I grew up with from 1st grade to grown-up age were a mixed bag of beautiful black friends and white, we loved each other back then and we're still each others hearts to this day whos left from them. We used to sing in the girls, bathroom because the sound carried and other girls would come in and listen, some who could, really sing and knew the words would join in. Music cut through any barriers. Those bonds will never break. If only people would stop....listen to the music! Its,the music of our lives! We jumped double dutch, we sang Motown, we shared dance moves,!
