Therefore since hip hop is not our go to (except for perhaps a younger demographic of young women) we'll sing the lit shit and not search out more diverse hip hop artists, we just listen to the popping mainstream shit. Also low-key high key I think women pay more attention to male hip hop artistes than females but I have no stats to back that up. Relations between men and women are extremely polarized right now therefore women buy into these artists a little more Plus truthfully ppl just like to sing some nasty hoe shit sometimes, I listen to soca, alt-rnb and pop, nobody is listening to city girls 24/7, they aren't making classics like that but streaming stats may say different I'm open to correction I also think that it's truthfully an over representation or generalization,there are not that much female rappers on the market, they do well but they don't have long lasting careers relative to their female rnb and pop colleagues. For example there's not multiple popular rap equivalents of Rihanna, Adele or Ariana Grande in terms of success, relevancy and cool factor. The sex/crime/toxicity selling gets boring at a point and repetitive unless they're really good at reinventing themselves Also just to be the devil's advocate, a lot of the females that I have encountered randomly that do rap just don't have that cool factor or mainstream appeal because of the lyrics, production and lack of sex appeal, it's not that they aren't good but if you're not a true fan of hip hop you're not gonna seek them out beyond sex appeal, so underground women will get some attention but they won't pop as much because they appeal to a niche, which is ironically probably predominantly men because as a group they are the larger consumers of hip hop (an assumption fact check me).... Doja makes weird music but she's hot with cool production..... I think the music industry doesn’t allow enough women the space to branch out in the industry and be multifaceted. So women who don’t fit the “bad bitch” mold are less likely to get recognition and opportunity. Yet, men who fit the “toxic masculinity” mold (meaning talking about bitches/hoes, money, hood shit) are given more shine will arguably less talent (depending on who we are talking about). The more opportunity all women get to shine the more interesting and diverse female hip hop will be.
