Another amazing video from my favourite channel. This operation has the most dramatic real footage I’ve ever seen. Looks like there was also a period reconstruction of Jericho for the newsreels.
The footage of the prison is from a PR Mosquito that followed 2minutes behind. The low level flight stuff was from a PR Boston following other Gestapo pinpoint raids. The footage was all necessary for assessing this new style of attack. Other footage is from ww2 Mosquito recognition films and testing analysis.
What a raid and what an aircraft. Probably one of, if not the greatest aircraft of all time. The prefect mix of beauty and deadliness in the ultimate femm fatale. But they would have just been lumps of wood and metal without the heroes that flew them.
The files are still closed on Op Jericho but from what we do know it appears to have been a failure, either because 1) The gen was duff. or 2) The whole Op was a spoof for something else even more interesting.
@@WgCdrLuddite Yes.....I have often wondered, if this was the case, what the actual intention of the raid was. There have been documentaries stating that we (the British) hadn't been asked to rescue prisoners. Plus, the Germans exacted retribution on the local population after the raid. Dave.
It has always surprised me that Pickard was the replacement leader (Although he didn't actually lead this) as although he was a very experienced pilot, he had virtually no low level experience. A great night fighter though. Dave.
A lot of the French resistance knew about D Day. It was no different to sinking the French Fleet. So many fell before they could live life😢. Lest We Forget ❤
What little England had at the time, they showed the world what they can do. The total tenacity, the drive and the brilliance of our cousins across the sea shown us what England is made of. My father joined the cause in 1939 from Canada till the very end in 1945 in the RCAF, as he said, "I was lucky enough to loose only a kidney". Grounded to ground crew, he kept the planes flying in any case, would only go back home till the Nazi's were finished. A warning to Putin and the like, don't screw with our cousins, you will have hell to pay, something you can ill afford.
I lived on the island where the sitca spruce was cut for the mosquito bomber. I've been hearing about them for 30 years but don't recall seeing any footage of them, or raids they were on. very interesting. thanks for posting this video.
One of fellow instructors was Mossie pilot. He said they were crossing to Holland and Mossie in front blew up. He said the pilot was one of those the newspapers followed. Rip Sqdn Ldr J. Curd.
In part because of the likes of this video: I'm not just about the British/Japanese/American Armoured Aircraft Carriers anymore (www.armouredcarriers.com). Though naval aviation will remain my general thrust.
Thank you for your time producing this from Australia 🇦🇺
A privilege to listen to the participating pilots themselves.
Legends!
And such beautiful areoplanes.
Thanks. Have not heard the Interviews of the Mossie Crews bevor. Brilliant.
Amazing flying and exceptional bravery.....thank you.

Hero's all but Forgotten.
Thank you
These are the voices of older men and yet as you listen they become the mind and memories of very sharp, brave RAF YOUNG pilots!
Fascinating to hear 1st hand accounts of this famous raid. Really enjoyed the video thanks very much.
What unbelievable flying skills.
I can't believe it hasn't been made into a movie

I have seen a handfull of documentories about the Amiens raid I think that this is the best I have seen.Incredible pilotingand planning.

"I kept one wing up to clear a line of poplars" Incredible fliers.

Putin is not the enemy that's bringing the West down from within.
Cheers cousin🇨🇦🇬🇧
My father instructed and flew Mossie Recce. He would have loved this and swore by the Mossie.

WOW What heroes , and what Courage , what brave men indeed !
Great video.
Thanks for posting
What a coincidence this has come up today. We have just returned from Amiens in a pair of Chipmunks for The People’s Mosquito 😁
In one picture it looks like pickard is wearing a Denison smock as flying kit.
@jamesross. 😂😂 Yes, he actually was!! He found it more comfortable and much easier to move in than his Irvin.
Back in the 90s I had a client who flew on Jericho. A privilege toknow him.

He said Germans had AA barges along coast, once through them fairly straight run.
Old school ozis
We got no idea how hard these men are
Great video
The "Wooden Wonder" was built in Hatfield Hertfordshire. The DeHaviland museum resides in London Colney nr St.Albans.
Even addblocker can't get rid of the silly adverts.... But I do think that the mossie was the best aircraft ever made.
Great as always. Why'd you change channel name?

".......and Gentlemen in England now abed will think themselves accursed they were not here and hold their manhoods cheap.........."
@MeatisFreedom. Nicely quoted Sir....Henry the fifth. I suppose the English Archers could be classed as the best in their day.
Super film.
Amazing men
