Had to take this guy down in NG+ in order to get my bell bearings for the expansion... but after a night of trying I decided to see what I was doing wrong. I forgot about Rot! I followed this guide and downed him in my second attempt. I was a bit too aggressive in the first... I just let rot do its thing in phase 2 on my second attempt. Easy!
It sounds like you're not afflicting him with the status condition. A lot of people saying the same thing as you werent holding the button down to completely deplete the magic bar. If you are doing that, then you may need to put a couple points into Mind. I didn't have to but maybe it's because I chose a different starter class than you.

Why isn’t the rot being applied in his scone phase for me? I did it the first phase and it worked fine but when I do it on the second phase it just doesn’t work at all even when I use it twice with full cast.
I don't remember the exact numbers but Arcane was at 16 or 17 and Mind was around the same(maybe a little higher like 18-20?). My main stats were strength and faith so I could maximize the blasphemous blade. Rotten Breath is the dragon incantation I used, but this definitely isn't a build around rotten breath. It was "Hey, I wonder if this works?" and it did lol. I learned my lesson about not including the build in my videos and now include them in each one.

His HP on 2nd phase is so absurd I swear this is the worst boss in the game he's RNG is also fucking crazy how one time he will do simple dodgeable attacks and the next round he won't even let you approach. @@actintuffgaming I got a few runes and upgraded my seal (the base seal) and I managed to apply it to him on his 2nd phase. I was so pissed at him that I just ran and waited for that to kill him 😂. I had to give him the last hit
The scarlet rot works for me, but it wears off before I can get him to the second phase. Did they nerf scarlet rot? Is it’s supposed to wear off after a certain amount of time?
Yeah it wears off after a certain amount of time but you can reapply it. It takes more rotten breath to reapply it each time though. It hasn't been nerfed. People have commented today that it worked for them.
Reading these comments, I realise how many people have no idea what they are doing in this game. So many don't know how to use Scarlet Rot, and some even think it needs "magic". People quitting the game because they can't beat this boss (who is actually one of the easier ones) should not even consider entering the dlc. They will get murdered by trash mobs there.
this boss has some of the worst rng movesets ever and is an annoying pain to defeat- i'll keep trying but the RNG in attacks keeps fcking me over and over and over. Scarlet rot also does NO damage at the end - just if you hold it down till the end to deplete magic. mostly he is not standing still long enough. Yeah he's def a tough fight. The only benefit to using rotten breath is to hit him with enough of it to trigger scarlet rot. Are you getting him inflicted with scarlet rot and seeing his health bar deplete over time?

Sounds like you're not hitting him with enough of the attack. Hold down button until the magic bar is completely depleted. If that doesn't work, it means you're not hitting him with enough of the breath. Just hit hit him with the attack again and it should work

I’m also running a faith build so I can continue to use rotten breath in the future. Something you could add if you ever remake this video is when you go behind him you can do rotten breath again just incase you didn’t get it at the start of phase two
@@actintuffgamingok i just discovered i was using it wrong. i was hitting rb/r1 button once like shooting a basic spell instead of holding it and doing a charged continuous attack lol. been able to now successfully use it on a couple mini bosses and npc invaders.
I didn't get hit once using my horse while using the river of blood blade max level found at the church outside the arena. You will have too fight a NPC mob for it. You will prob be fine if you use a frost or blood weapon. Aim for feet and stay behind him and use the horse.
You’re a bossman! combined it with doing some summons in the 2nd phase just to keep him away - rot didn’t finish him off completely but they did! Thanks honestly - got him down to like 5 hp in the first hour, then died - took two more hours but got there in the end 😂
It has not been patched. You've gotta hold the button down to hit him with a bunch of rotten breath and that will inflict him with the scarlet rot status effect which causes his health to constantly deplete throughout the fight. If you do it once and it doesn't trigger, do it again and it will work.
If you made it this far in the game, you can beat him. Read through the comments and see some common mistakes people were making. There are a bunch of comments asking if it's been patched but then they figured out what they were doing wrong. Hope that helps, and I wish you the best, bro!
Because you're not inflicting him with scarlet rot. You're just hitting him with rotten breath. You have to hold down the button to hit him with a bunch of rotten breath in order to trigger the scarlet rot status condition on him
Spamming Godskin Peeler ash of war behind his foot also works wonders. He struggles to retaliate behind his foot and the huge % hp damage from a full charge shreds him. On a sidenote, once you beat him go back to grace and use the runes. Super easy to fall and lose them after the boss.
Omg. My game glitches every time in this fight. The 2nd phase bugs out my torrent shortcut. It has 2 items ghosted over each other and it won’t let me use torrent 😭
I equip the torrent whistle to the right directional button of my bag through the equipment menu. Then, while in game, I just press Y and right direction button to summon Torrent.
I can get the rot status effect on the first phase but not on the second ive tried multiple times does anyone know why it wont work also i only tried rotten breath on his right arm in phase 2

Use whatever weapon you'd like! Just make sure you fully exhaust your magic bar while using rotten breath. If it doesn't inflict scarlet rot, hit him with it once more and you'll be Golden! Good luck, bro!

Happy to help! Two things could cause this: 1) You aren't fully depleting your magic bar on the attack. (You've gotta do this so he gets afflicted with scarlet rot) 2) Youre not hitting him with enough of the spell. (If this is the reason, then take a magic flask and hit him with it again.) For the most part, you can make fromsoftware bosses predictable with your actions. Elden Ring is a little different because ending of some boss combos can vary but it's still pretty similar. That's one of the things that makes me love the games. They're about pattern recognition.
Hey man im struggling to get the rot to do damage over time on the second phase, it always works for the first stage but on the second it does a bit of base damage and then nothing else, am i just hitting the wrong spot?
The method definitely works. They haven't patched the game since I made the video, and people commented 2 days ago that it worked for them. If you're holding the button and completely exhausting the magic bar for the attack, then you may need to slightly level up Mind. I didn't have to do that but I don't remember which starting class I chose for this character. If you don't want to level it up, you can just hit him with the rotten breath attack again soon after. Another reason it may not be working is youre not hitting him with enough of the breath itself during the attack. Sorry it's not working for you but I'm happy to try to help further if you have questions or describe how you're trying it. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
As soon as he falls after breaking his ankle I just let loose on the rot breath and the initial damage occurs but it doesn’t leave the status effect on him so it does little to no damage
Sounds like you need to hit him with it again. The breath does damage but it needs to hit a certain amount of damage before inflicting the status condition. Try hitting him with it one more time soon after and that should do the trick. Let me know how it turns out!
Thanks, dude! Getting the rot on him in phase 2 can be tough but it should work if you run to his left arm like I did in the video. Gotta get there quick and unload the full bar. He's gonna be a little more resistant to getting scarlet rot again so you may need to hit him with a second rotten breath attack in phase 2. You should have time to hit him with it one more time from behind him if the first attack doesn't do it.
Like I have the rotten breath and I’ve tried like 5 times during phase 1 and 2 to inflict the scarlet rot using rotten breath but he just doesn’t seem to be affected. Any tips? Or idk maybe it got patched
@@bylike7167 Really? I did this the same day the before the video got posted. Are you using the full magic bar for rotten breath? If he doesnt get hit enough by it, he wont get inflicted with scarlet rot. Another good time to use rotten breath is when he sticks his hand in the ground to do the flame eruptions from the ground.
I must be doing a lot wrong....Because I'm using Alexandar and the Mimic Tear and I can handle phase 1 but haven't made it through phase 2 yet. Tried a bunch of times. One problem I have is if I use Alexandar and another helper I can't ride Torrent??????

Try equipping the talisman that enhances breath attacks.
His resistance is a little higher in phase 2 and if you don't hit him with most of the attack, it won't trigger rot.

Literally 3 more hits and he would’ve been done. But his flame breath ricochets in such random spots.

It has not been patched. You've gotta hold the button down to hit him with a bunch of rotten breath and that will inflict him with the scarlet rot status effect which causes his health to constantly deplete throughout the fight. If you do it once and it doesn't trigger, do it again and it will work.
@actintuffgaming I did that he just doesn't take continuous damage anymore so I'm done I suck at all games anyway thanks for the help though
If you made it this far in the game, you can beat him. Read through the comments and see some common mistakes people were making. There are a bunch of comments asking if it's been patched but then they figured out what they were doing wrong. Hope that helps, and I wish you the best, bro!

Why does my scalot root run out super fast
Because you're not inflicting him with scarlet rot. You're just hitting him with rotten breath. You have to hold down the button to hit him with a bunch of rotten breath in order to trigger the scarlet rot status condition on him

I always get him down to half and then it’s hard to attack him.
Spamming Godskin Peeler ash of war behind his foot also works wonders. He struggles to retaliate behind his foot and the huge % hp damage from a full charge shreds him.
On a sidenote, once you beat him go back to grace and use the runes. Super easy to fall and lose them after the boss.

Omg. My game glitches every time in this fight. The 2nd phase bugs out my torrent shortcut. It has 2 items ghosted over each other and it won’t let me use torrent 😭

How to summon the horse without having it selected?
I equip the torrent whistle to the right directional button of my bag through the equipment menu. Then, while in game, I just press Y and right direction button to summon Torrent.
I can get the rot status effect on the first phase but not on the second ive tried multiple times does anyone know why it wont work also i only tried rotten breath on his right arm in phase 2
Try going to that exact area I went to in phase 2 by his left arm. I've inflicted him with rot every time while in that spot.

Are you holding the button down to completely exhaust your magic bar? If so, then yeah hit him with it again and it should work.
I do believe you also had a braid holding your bones in place after you tore your ACL

This is gonna be a big help, got in a competition with my friend to see which could beat him in the least tries. As long as I do it in under four, I should be fine. Also, im assuming I can use any weapon, and don’t have time to use the blasphemous blade?
Use whatever weapon you'd like! Just make sure you fully exhaust your magic bar while using rotten breath. If it doesn't inflict scarlet rot, hit him with it once more and you'll be Golden! Good luck, bro!

Man I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but in the first phase I rot him normally but in the second one I do more damage than you also but he can’t get rotted, you got any tips or sum? I got the dragon communion seal at level 7 btw. Appreciate your answer man
You may need to level Mind up slightly in order to get enough rotten breath in one attack in order to inflict scarlet rot on him.

The overtime rotten breath effect doesn’t work with me please help??
Happy to help! Two things could cause this:
1) You aren't fully depleting your magic bar on the attack. (You've gotta do this so he gets afflicted with scarlet rot)
2) Youre not hitting him with enough of the spell. (If this is the reason, then take a magic flask and hit him with it again.)

For the most part, you can make fromsoftware bosses predictable with your actions. Elden Ring is a little different because ending of some boss combos can vary but it's still pretty similar. That's one of the things that makes me love the games. They're about pattern recognition.

Hey man im struggling to get the rot to do damage over time on the second phase, it always works for the first stage but on the second it does a bit of base damage and then nothing else, am i just hitting the wrong spot?

Rot breath does not work on him I’ve been trying for 2 hours
The method definitely works. They haven't patched the game since I made the video, and people commented 2 days ago that it worked for them. If you're holding the button and completely exhausting the magic bar for the attack, then you may need to slightly level up Mind. I didn't have to do that but I don't remember which starting class I chose for this character. If you don't want to level it up, you can just hit him with the rotten breath attack again soon after. Another reason it may not be working is youre not hitting him with enough of the breath itself during the attack. As soon as he falls after breaking his ankle I just let loose on the rot breath and the initial damage occurs but it doesn’t leave the status effect on him so it does little to no damage
Sounds like you need to hit him with it again. The breath does damage but it needs to hit a certain amount of damage before inflicting the status condition. Try hitting him with it one more time soon after and that should do the trick. Let me know how it turns out!

I feel like 80 arcane and ROB corpse piller is faster and easier. Use rot breathe as well even faster.
You can never go wrong with rivers of blood! I think it's pretty tough to be at 80 arcane at this point in the game, though.

Thanks, dude! Getting the rot on him in phase 2 can be tough but it should work if you run to his left arm like I did in the video. Gotta get there quick and unload the full bar. He's gonna be a little more resistant to getting scarlet rot again so you may need to hit him with a second rotten breath attack in phase 2. You should have time to hit him with it one more time from behind him if the first attack doesn't do it.

Like I have the rotten breath and I’ve tried like 5 times during phase 1 and 2 to inflict the scarlet rot using rotten breath but he just doesn’t seem to be affected. Any tips? Or idk maybe it got patched
@@bylike7167 Really? I did this the same day the before the video got posted. Are you using the full magic bar for rotten breath? If he doesnt get hit enough by it, he wont get inflicted with scarlet rot. Another good time to use rotten breath is when he sticks his hand in the ground to do the flame eruptions from the ground.

I must be doing a lot wrong....Because I'm using Alexandar and the Mimic Tear and I can handle phase 1 but haven't made it through phase 2 yet. Tried a bunch of times. One problem I have is if I use Alexandar and another helper I can't ride Torrent??????
