My biggest boost to battery life was turning off these two location settings: Bluetooth scanning + Wifi scanning (Settings > Location > Improve Accuracy). Before that I lost 1 % in standby after about 15 min. After turning those off I loose 1% after about 40min standby
its a huge disapointment when you have to turn off many good and new features in order to have good battery life... almost feel like why i get this new phone when i cannot enjoy its full feature.
Owning the phone for about 2 days now, the battery isn't that bad. I've always been used to turning off a lot of things to get the best battery life with every phone I've owned. Push notifications, and apps not running in the background are the biggest things, also most people don't know that just turning off your Bluetooth and WiFi doesn't mean they won't continue to search in the background, go to advanced settings and turn those functions off👀

Your absolutely right about the battery getting better by day 2 or 3. I was so disappointed the 1st day. Even after being aware of the short battery life I was still disappointed. Here I am on day 4 and so happy to see the battery life has improved so greatly. I have run into a warm phone every once in awhile.. And I haven't changed any of the settings you've mentioned here. After almost a month with the Z Flip 3, my take on the battery life is, it is absolutely adequate. If you are at home or office, near a charger, and you are heavily using the device, you will get 4 hours of screen on time. When you are going out and about, the real life scenario is different and so not taxing to the battery. Most of the time the phone is folded and the main screen is not in use. When in the car, calls are answered either via bluetooth or speaker phone, i dont answer text or anything while driving so the brief message in the cover screen is more than enough. The fact that it folds and dont use the main screen for every call and notification, it got me 13 - 14 hours from 100% which is plenty enough when i'm out and about. The lack of fast charging is what i missed most. If it has fast charging like the S20, it could easily do 100% in 45 minutes.
Finally someone that knows how a phone works. The first week is going to be bad with any phone. I though the galaxy watch 4 was horrible for battery life but once it learned my usage after a week it's been great! Good video mate!

i haven't upgraded my phone in a few years because i was waiting for this one! i'm glad i did because even tho they aren't the best specs and battery life it is still an upgrade from my old phone. I'm a heavy user on my phone but that being said i always have a big portable charger on me so i dont see that being an issue hopefully. i've been watching all the videos on the phone thank you so much for so much insight i cant wait to receive mine(: even tho i want it right now i'm really happy to hear its a little backed up because so many people are buying it! i hope that means better upgrades in the future years and lots of feedback!
I was told I have to upgrade because I don't have a choice my phone will be useless and unusable at the beginning of 2022 so I just ordered this phone it's on back order but yea deff nervous about the battery life I always travel with a charger myself but after watching alot of vidz on this in the last couple days it just seems like the battery will really be the only issue everyrhing else seems good enough :)
The phone works great it's very adequate the battery life okay but I'm always plugging my phone in no matter how much battery life I have because all of them everyone complains about the batteries but as far as it being a flip phone is great to have a small phone in your pocket that turns out to be a big one especially for guys girls can put their phone in the handbag or whatever when you're a guy you can pop it right in your pocket it doesn't take up mushroom and for that aspect unless you're a guy with a pocketbook that feature Trump's all features
My eyes cannot detect the difference between 120 and 60 hz. I put my Flip 3 on 60 right out of the box. I turned on adaptive brightness, flipped the outer AOD all the way on the lowest light setting and transferred over my regular AOD on/off schedule (6:30am - 10:00pm), put a ton of apps to Deep Sleep, and put all apps except for a handful on optimize battery. I went for a walk this morning , had my Bluetooth buds in listening to Spotify (offline mode) and running Samsung Health to track my trip. My battery went from 100% when I left, down to 93% when I got home. I was out for an hour and 40 minutes and I never opened the phone. I was surprised, I actually expected it to drain more. I will test it out next weekend when I get my bicycle back from the shop. I typically go biking on Saturday mornings and I'm gone for around 3 hours and run Bluetooth, Spotify and my Bike Tracker app. On my Note 10+ I was getting home with only 70% battery. I am somehow expecting 40/50% for the Flip 3, and will be surprised if it does the same or better than the Note 10+. I've had this phone since Thursday and I absolutely love it. I just factory reset and packaged up my Note 10+ to ship back to Samsung for trade-in. The chip performance between the Note 10+ and the Flip 3 is massive. I don't notice the difference in refresh rate, but I DEFINATELY notice the difference in processing speed. It's worth the upgrade. I think some folks who go from newer (past year or less) flagship phones to the Flip 3 will feel disappointed, but for folks like myself who hold on to a phone for 2 years and then switches to the Flip 3, it's like a night and day difference in performance and quality. I'm also so done with massive phones I cant hold one-handed or fit in my pocket. The Flip 3 (lavender version) is so perfect for me personally, in every way. I showed it to my friends and coworkers and they were like "omg- that phone is so you it's not even funny". I'm a satisfied customer with this phone.
So I got my bike back from the shop and had to take it out to try this afternoon. I ran my Galaxy Buds 2 on Bluetooth, Spotify (offline mode), and Bike Tracker app (w/ geolocation). I also keep my texting, calls, and emails running in the background all the time. I was out for about an hour and 10 minutes, my Z Flip 3 was at 100% battery when I went out. It was at 90% when I got home. I had also stopped to answer a couple of texts and take some pictures of wildlife. Honestly, so far it's the same battery life of my Note 10+. We'll see again how it goes for my 3 hour ride on Saturday. At this rate, it should be around 70% when I get home if I calculate 10% battery down per hour of my "bicycle mode" usage.
@@chocolatte8301 Wow! Optimization will be important. I did a combo of manual optimizations and letting the battery learn my habits. Just yesterday, it finally started showing stats and stopped the learning. It tells me based on my optimization and usage, I should get a day and 4 hours of battery (28 hours). I can live with that. Its not the typical 3 days you get on a 4400mA battery, but anything 24 hours or more is not bad for a small battery, compact device.. I forgot to mention that I live in rural FL where I only get 5g in a single 2 mile radius of downtown- I turned the 5g radio off. I may try it again if I venture out to a metro area, but I don't need it.
@@Jademoon25 yeah your usage is quite good imo. Because honestly like other said, I usually have a charger on me and I usually plug 🔌 at night. So battery life is only going to matter on the rare occasion that I don't have a charger handy. ☺️
Adam, I'm finding the battery absolute fine. I charged mine 1 day 15 hours ago , I've a screen on time of 4 hours and 54 percent left. I'm also using the 120hz screen - I think compared to the last flip, it's a major improvement.
As someone who wants a phone to capture moments, the tripod functionality and use of the main nice camera with a viewfinder is amazing. Also I hate a big phone falling out of my pocket or taking up room in a clutch or purse. I think a lot of women will really lile this phone if it hold up.
I have the pine green version of the Galaxy Z Flip3 and it overheats after about six minutes of video use at 1080P & 60FPS. I then tried 1080P 30FPS and the Z Flip3 still overheats and gets up to over 110 F in after about five to seven minutes of video recording inside without any warm studio lights. If Samsung cannot release an update to fix this, yeah, I am sending mine back in 48 hours.
@@PeterHerget I saw other people complaining about their phone over heating when using the camera. That is rediculous. The Google pixel 5a also does that.
A lot of women probably wouldn't because they put it in their big big ass pocketbooks but if you're moving around with it's the perfect thing to have it it pulls up in your pocket you don't have to have it being uncomfortable when you sit down
Thank you. I do this for most of my android and ios phones since before. Not everyone knows about how much the display takes up the battery life. Unless you're a tech junkie like me. 😬
Things I did to get between 12 and 16 hours of battery in my day: 1) dark mode 2) 60hz because I don't care much about 120! 3) battery saving mode 4) restrict battery on most apps I don't use often. Kept it on for apps like gmail that are constantly syncing 5) put apps I don't use to deep sleep mode.
Don't forget putting unused apps on deep sleep mode and turning off sync. I've noticed a bigger improvement when having sync off since it's not constantly checking for emails or other app notifications. I do it myself..5G is off unless I'm in an area where I know speeds will be fast and I will need them. Other than that, I hate it because it always bounces between 4g and 5g, destroying my battery lol
@@SkanDogVids you can turn it off by going into your settings, connections, mobile networks, and then select your network mode. I have mine set on LTE. I would say it really depends on your carrier. I have TMobile and it's fine. I know someone that has att and they say their network won't let them get their old LTE speeds. Att is forcing them to use their 5G but it's not true 5G lol I guess it's LTE+. Crazy.
With the settings and tweaks you've suggested to improve battery life, can you please let's know how's the battery been performing and the SoT you're getting.
Why do users have to compromise any part of specs & always worry to use it carefully to save the battery? Note: it also has only a 15W battery. Did the manufacturer not think about it before releasing it. I don't think so,.its just to use the improved battery as a new feature in the next release..Though initially, I liked this phone, the battery & eSIM was a dealbreaker for me
Could you do a video and/or rundown on the battery savings you gain from the XDA app called Galaxy Hz Max? If any? It allows you to change the Adaptive rate from 120hz to 96hz, you barely notice the difference and you refresh the screen 24hz a second less. It also allows you to get Adaptive mode while you have Power Savings on.

@@nikkiallaireee Smartphone batteries lose more and more power over their lifetime. While a newly purchased phone can usually be used for a whole day after it has been put into operation, a significant reduction in battery life can be noticed after two to three years at the latest. That's because the battery loses a little bit of power with each charge cycle. Devices that are still connected to the charging cable when the battery is 100 percent full are particularly affected. A modern lithium-ion battery, which is installed in all common smartphones today, loses a little bit of its power in this situation. The effect is negligible - but if you use a phone for years, it will still be noticeable. Tip: Do not fully charge the battery Experts therefore advise not to fully charge the battery, but only to about 85 percent. Likewise, it is recommended not to let the battery run completely empty, but to charge it again at 15 percent at the latest. With some smartphones it is possible to prevent full charging to 100 percent even in the settings. For others, the smartphone has to be manually unplugged each time for this energy-saving method. In addition, if you only use your smartphone for two to three years anyway, the battery-saving effect is usually so small that careful battery management is not worthwhile.

@@KhanhNguyen-lg2qi factually, when a Li-Ion battery makes 1500 cycles when charging up to 100%, it is making the equivalent of 4000 or more cycles when you limit at 85%. It does have a huge effect on battery degradation.
You earned a Subscriber I have watched a few of your Z Flip videos bc im on the edge of buying it. Had my Pixel 2 for four years, battery life is my number one concern. My Pixel 2 when it was bran new wad giving me 5 hours of SOT. I do NOT expect the Z Flip 3 to do it but you have layed out quite a few ways to make it better. I only play Pokemon Go and I didn't know limiting the CPU to 75% was possible I mainly watch TH-cam and go on social media so I wouldn't need my CPU going pedal to the metal every second of everyday. There's also no sense in having a Snapdragon 888 processor if you're not going to be running it at less than 2.8ghz... 120hz screen is useless if there is no juice left.
@@jimmyhuang7481 I feel you. However I believe that is more than that... they need to do something with the software. The 12promax has 3,687 mAh. A the size is enough for all day battery life.
@@balmoremaza5245 At the same time the iPhone 12 Max, like all the 12 variants are only 60hz screens. Don't forget they're also not folding phones. The hinge has forced the Flip 3 to split the battery in half as well as taking up some space for a higher capacity single battery. That is the compromise that has to be made with a folding screen. For people who are willing to accept that compromise, Samsung gives the users numerous options to maximize their battery life; i.e. the 60hz and Adaptive settings to name 2. I feel that has been the major defining line between iPhone and Android users, people who like to tweak to their specifications and people who just want their phone to work without having to do anything. Neither way is better, one tends to lean to a more customized experience and the other less frustration. Android OS is hardware agnostic. iPhone OS only has to optimize for their own custom chips. Can't really compare software stacks until we can run Android on Apple hardware or vice versa. True, the Android OS can be more efficient but some of it is hamstrung by the necessity to be compatible on numerous chipsets.
@@jimmyhuang7481 I understand, and I'm with you. However we can not be blind about it. Either way 120hz or 60hz, if you have the option to go with 120hz you need to go for it. And my battery life It's fine. I know the cost. However I'm not buying a $1200 phone for use 60hz sc, saver mode & medium screen resolution. I have it too and love it. I do miss my pop socket. However I found a new kind of pop socket that expands to grip the sides of your phone. You can use it with any of your cases. I got a couple cases from Amazon too. This silicone one from Samsung is my favorite so far. Have to have something because this phone is way too slippery.
I've had my z flip for three days now and I love it my battery life is 5 hours 9 minutes screen on time and 17 hours 50 screen off time and I'm on 6% now total 23 hours 10 minutes since last charge who thinks this is good or not I mean like I had the iPhone 11 last and I was getting roughly the same screen on time and I'd be roughly around the same battery life
When you have adaptive light in it always is using the sensor to look for light conditions. Maybe just set leave it off and find some good middle ground for brightness power?
Had this phone for a while and went back to my S21 ultra. I tried to give it a chance I really did but it just wasn't what you pay for. The battery life was absolutely horrible even after a month of it learning my usage patterns and I'm not even a heavy user. I got about 6 and a half to 7 and a half hours before it died. The camera quality isn't bad if it was a $400 phone but it's a $1000 phone. All your paying for is tge wow factor and after a while that wears off and you have a $1000 phone that performs like a $400 phone with minimal features that will have to be charged twice a day before you go to bed. To me it's definitely not worth it.
Had it for a few days, I'm just waiting a few more days to see if it the battery improves after a whole week by tweaking the settings and everything but honestly I'm almost sure I'm returning it before the 14 days testing period, it's awful and I'm coming from a 20FE so not even the Ultra range or Note with crazy performances and it's still better than the flip 3... That's just not acceptable for the price, when you have a phone like this last thing you want is to turn off all the settings that make it a beast 😐
Thank you so much so useful to both the fold and flip owners out there like me. Finally could we get a video how to close my entire settings from one phone to another phone my flip arrived today and want to ensure it runs same as my fold please . Please Thank you
which model can be opened more smoothly and easily with one hand? Razr 5G or flip 3 5G ? What about the closing sound ? Please make a short video about!
Would you please link an amazon affiliate for the charger for this phone? I’m not sure which one to buy. My first Samsung as I’m trying to leave the iPhone ecosystem. :) ty and your vids are so informative!
Is it difficult to just click the power button to turn off the display when you're not using it? I never understood the automatic screen timeout option. I always just set it to the longest duration possible so it doesn't interrupt me.
I think cause and not on the flip cause you can flip it off, however on a regular phone like my s20 if i leave that option let's say to auto turn off at 30 min and if I accidentally turn it on in my bag then 30 min of screen time on hurts my battery so it's safe to use it on lower settings just in case you leave ur flip open and then forget to turn off display.
I'm happy there is some one else that does this. I have been doing this for years and never really had a problem. There are times I like to set up the phone on my desk so I can keep looking at it to read something while I do other things and I hate it auto turning off

@@Church6six6 How is it going right now?
Thank you for this comment!
You give me hope. I unplugged at 7am and I'm down to 26% at 4:45
@@chocolatte8301 Wow! Things I did to get between 12 and 16 hours of battery in my day:
1) dark mode
2) 60hz because I don't care much about 120!
3) battery saving mode
4) restrict battery on most apps I don't use often. Kept it on for apps like gmail that are constantly syncing
5) put apps I don't use to deep sleep mode.

Good tips on battery. I don't like the adaptive brightness because sometimes it's too dim when it automatically adjusts.
Yeah same for me. It’s always too low. I don’t like it. And thank you!

Clean and simple with just the amount of information i need. Nice 👍
Nice. Glad I could help.
Adaptive brightness actually uses more battery being turned on as its constantly making your screen the right brightness to see, keep it turned off
Could you do a video and/or rundown on the battery savings you gain from the XDA app called Galaxy Hz Max? If any? It allows you to change the Adaptive rate from 120hz to 96hz, you barely notice the difference and you refresh the screen 24hz a second less. It also allows you to get Adaptive mode while you have Power Savings on.
About 7-12%, even running at 1hz it's about only a 40% battery savings, which is a lot but not as much as you would expect unfortunately
Better than nothing with such a small battery I'd wager

Tip: Do not fully charge the battery
Experts therefore advise not to fully charge the battery, but only to about 85 percent.

What's your opinion on the protect battery 85% setting? Do you care for potential faster battery degradation over time charging it to 100%?
not worth it. You still need to change the battery after 2 years, in case you still use the phone as your daily driver.
I think it is a good option especially if you only have to charge overnight
@@KhanhNguyen-lg2qi Agree, I upgrade phones every year, so would rather get a full charge than extend long term life.
@@gspam154 Oh well that's you so that makes sense, I only charge my phone to about 80% now

Don't use your phone so much
Thank you so much so useful to both the fold and flip owners out there like me. Finally could we get a video how to close my entire settings from one phone to another phone my flip arrived today and want to ensure it runs same as my fold please . Please Thank you
Is it possible to answer the call without oppening the flip? Via button and just hold the box as it is, without unfolding?
Yup. Just swipe to accept the phone call from the outside screen and it accepts the call in speakerphone, or earbuds if you're using those.
@@TechOdyssey thanx!
@@RomanRoman-xi3dv sure thing. You're welcome. Thanks for watching
which model can be opened more smoothly and easily with one hand? Razr 5G or flip 3 5G ? What about the closing sound ? Please make a short video about!
Would you please link an amazon affiliate for the charger for this phone? I’m not sure which one to buy. My first Samsung as I’m trying to leave the iPhone ecosystem. :) ty and your vids are so informative!
Hello, i m trying to buy this phone.
But I m scared for the battery life.
Have you any advice for me?
Do you recommend me to buy it? 😅
There are times I like to set up the phone on my desk so I can keep looking at it to read something while I do other things and I hate it auto turning off
Thanks for this video, but I'd like to get your final feedback, is it worth to buy this phone or not?
Watch my full review video.
Just got mine 2 days ago and so far so good. The battery is my biggest concern tho. I've been reading about this "96hz apk".. where and how can I download it??
I've heard about it too and know a few people who have used it and they are happy. I can't vouch for it personally
@@TechOdyssey is it like an app or something? By the way, I did all of your tips and I noticed a little improvement of my battery 😁
Hi,
Thanks for the great videos. Is there a way to keep any specific application running when flip closed?
Thank you
Not that I know of. Some will like TH-cam but that’s automatically. I don’t think it’s an option for most apps
Voice recorder keeps recording when you close the flip. Very cool.
my problem with the energy saving mode is that you dont get your whatsapp massages on time so its a no go
Really love my zf3. I am having an issue with some of my apps that are set for 2 step verification when you are sent a secure code to your phone to continue logging in. I am not receiving the text. Has this come across your desk as an issue for others
And thanks so much for the battery tips. My heart has been heavy as I witness how quickly the power was draining.
other advance that i realy recoment because i already did is to put in deep sleep all the apps you don't use and put sleep only the ones you use like face, instragram, etc etc and you still recive you notifications on sleep mode
What case is that? Thanks :)
