Go get that butter🤩how wonderful that they give you certificates to buy fresh foods also. Im so jealous of your turkey, what a generous food bank. You were blessed and bless all the volunteers who give their time to help others. Thank you for sharing your haul. Have a wonderful Wednesday stay safe and well always 🙏🥰

Good morning my sweet friends 🌼The pantry here does a lot for our community. When school starts they give vouchers for parents or caregivers to get a pair of shoes and a coat for their children. At school at the end of the week we get tons of brown grocery bags full of easy foods that don't need refrigerated for specific kids.
The school sets up a store for Christmas for the students to shop at for their families. I subbed for the 1st grade teacher on their day to shop. As I went through the envelopes to see who would be going and who wouldn't I noticed some of the envelopes were different because someone had donated for them to shop. I also found that only one child who was not going to be able to shop. I pulled the child aside and asked some questions then spoke to the office. I put an envelope in so they could also participate. The joy on their face to experience that was worth it to me!
We live in a amazing community! Most people step right up to help others! When we first got here we tried to volunteer to help at the food pantry and were denied because they already had too many volunteers! We were put on a list but have still never been called!
About 4 times a year we get the 2/5 on the butter and I always try to stock up when they have it. If they don't have any in stock I can get a rain check that is good for 11 days. As for the turkey that was truly a blessing. We were not planning on making a special Christmas dinner due to the high costs of turkeys and hams locally and I do not drive on the highway when we have wintery weather just locally. Last Saturday we perused the hams and turkeys while shopping and all were above $25 which is usually how much I try to stick to unless I find some really great deals!
I buy my meat on sale and marked down only and combine it with what I received from the food pantry to create my meals. Stay blessed ladies!

What a blessing Rachael! That is a ton of food! Ours is once a month and for two families and it is a quarter of what you recieved, I am not complaining or anything because every bit helps but you guys up north really get a nice amount of food! That's awesome! 🎄I am so happy for you! 🥰

Lisa it is a huge blessing due to the holidays and no pay. I am very thankful they have a food pantry here. Back in Washington you could literally go to at least one food bank/pantry a day M-F. My favorite one had these big fruit bins like they use in the orchards. Some were full of veggies and fruit and one was stuff people would put into it. So people could go through what they received and put stuff in the bin they didn't want.
I would get so much stuff because people do not know how to cook anymore. One time I got around 50 cans of assorted beans like black, pinto, kidney, and great northern! Plus all the rice and dried beans and peas plus the lentils! People would complain and I figured they just were not hungry enough!
When I get something I have never had before I just google and find a recipe. Easy Peasy!

Thank you Melissa. I am very grateful for our food pantry. My job for tomorrow was cancelled so that means less on my check. I was able to pick up a half day so that is good and I am still hoping for something in the morning and on Friday morning but I am not sure what will happen between now and then as we are suppose to have a storm coming with possible 6 inches of snow! If it happens I will do a video of hubby using our $20 snow blower we got from a yard sale!

@ that’s a great price on a snowblower I’m working then week then off till the 2nd and without the township job anymore we are down $1200 a month in pay so we are reducing a lot of spending thinking about doing more than just a no buy January

@@Sycklehomestead1 It is just a baby snowblower but he said it works pretty good. I haven't seen it in action yet! I go back to work on January 6th. Was the township job an elected position? That is a lot of money to lose! With some of the kids moving out you wont have to buy as much groceries so that will help! We have an appointment on the 30th finally to meet with a man from the VA regarding possible getting a rating for hubby. This would mean a non-taxable monthly check. This ranges from $175.51 for a 10% rating to $3831.30 for 100%. His brother just got approved but it took him about 1 to 2 years to get approved and work his way up to 70%. This man will help fill out all of the paper work and do all the hard stuff for him for free.

HI Rachael - finally your videos started appearing on my feed! You had a great haul - very practical and delicious food. Some refried beans have lard in them and I personally avoid those (and check the label) so that's why they said it was vegetarian. Insofar as "fat free potatoes", I have no explanation for that! I volunteered at our food bank on Tuesday and our clients did pretty well too. As a volunteer I can also get groceries there which is a big help. You will have some excellent meals with what you received, that turkey was amazing.

Daphne that makes total sense about the refried beans. Because when I make my own I add peppers onions cilantro and whatever deliciousness I have on hand and I heat it up with some bacon fat. When we first moved here we tried to volunteer at the pantry but they said they were full. We did get added to the list for when they get a vacancy but they have never called and when I go they say they still have a list of people waiting to help.
I just received a email from our gas company which we use to heat our house. It sounds like we could qualify for a heating credit and possible a tax credit. I will need to look into that. Currently to save money while our gas bill is low in the off months at only about $5 a month I still always pay $50 to build up a credit that way it will help when we get to the big bills!

@@rachaelsupadventures I like the fact that your food pantry has too many volunteers -that speaks so well for the community. Ours does pretty well, too, with the volunteers lately. It really depends. We have a lot of food banks up here, so that depletes the volunteer pool, but people are good and want to help, so that's all that counts. Yes. Do look at whatever credits and offers your power company has. A lot of people don't realize how many benefits are available and they are so helpful. I figure that we have paid for them already in our taxes so it's time to collect.

@@MyMountainHomeandKitchen We know a lady who helps our neighbor walk his dog and stuff. She works for the city so I left her a message to get more info. From what I can tell we currently may qualify for a reduction in our property taxes and get a credit for our heat. I only worked for a couple of months in MI last year and had to file. Last year I think I got a credit of $68 because of my income and amount of time we were here. Every bit helps!

@@rachaelsupadventures It all helps. Some areas give a lot of different discounts to disabled veterans and some counties give property tax discounts for vets and seniors. Not too much of that sort of stuff in my county, but they do have a lot of food banks and other resources. So I guess it all evens out in the end, depending where you are,
