- meet Jen, the 52 years old American woman came to Thailand on holiday for the first time 14 years ago to take a short break from her busy life in Seattle.
We are talking today about why she left the US and the American dream, why her first business in Thailand failed and how she is shaping her way forward despite incredible tragedy and heartbreak.
Jen lives on Kantiang Bay, a beautiful but more quiet beach in the South of Lanta island, which she fell in love with on one of her first trips to Thailand.
If you want to visit Jen at her restaurant Habitat and eat delicious and soulful vegetarian food:

What is the name of this lady’s restaurant and address? I’d like to connect with her, please.
@@lilydauber3147Habitat Bar and Veg Restaurant. She included a link.
Did you finally visit Jen at Habitat?
If my mother lived in Thailand.. I would have a saving account just to go visit her once or twice a year ❤ I hope one day your son comes and see you in your amazing place ❤
She's a hard-working and incredible woman. Not many could do that on her own.
I understand her as an American business woman. She has the guts to do what she wants. Good for her!
That salt air just does something to the core of the soul.
What a beautiful and strong woman. Very inspiring. Big hugs to you on your loss and pain.
I like this woman, tough and wise…..
By the time someone hits 50 years old, there’s a story of challenge (s) in one’s life. Jen has faced her challenges and has moved on. Not easy. I hope her son visits her soon.
What wonderful woman! Hope, she keeps on living her life in peace and happiness... 😍
Losing a child is one of the most traumatic things a person can go through because it goes against the natural course of life. So sorry for her tragic loss. Great interview.

ขอให้คุณมีความสุขในทุกช่วงเวลา ที่ประเทศไทย❤🇹🇭
Jen dear, you are a brave n enterprising lady, both, emotionally & physically. Hope to meet u someday, I live in BKK. God Bless🙏😊
What I saw from this clip, Jen, she still suffers a lot inside and now she has her own restaurant because she still misses her family life with her children. For me, I also suffered a lot and fortunately I found a way not long after that with the Buddhist way, started to learn seriously and practice hard, quit everything even friends, distanced myself from family life. Now I am much happier with a quiet life, do not need friends who are as busy as before, enjoy myself, prepare for the end of life, every minute that comes and make sure that I can choose the right and most perfect path to pass through.
And i hope Jen, she will find the way and the answer to life and will be happy in nothing, in the happy emptiness.
Good interview !!
ขออนุโมทนาบุญกับคุณ สาธุ สาธุ สาธุ อนุโมทามิ 🙏🙏🙏

Your comment is very inspiring. I am an Asian (Buddhust) and I understand what you mean by saying finding Happiness in Emptiness and Nothing. I lived in Thailand (in Bangkok) and moved to Germany (it is my home). I am planning to move to Asia, maybe Thailand in the near future. I am a Minimalist and love to spend time in nature. I have also distanced myself from family because of many reasons. But I found peace with letting go of people and things that obstruct my personal growth and peace of mind. Thanks for your comment.🙏
"The Buddhist antidote for the chronic misapprehension of the self is wisdom. Wisdom shatters the illusion of an independent self by revealing the truth of interdependent origination.
Compassion . . . is the antidote for the self-absorption that comes about as a result of our chronic misapprehension of self."
She deserves an easier life. What an awesome woman.
hope her son watching this video..
She is hoping for that too.
What an amazing woman ❤
I'm beginning to like this lady....so touching.....if she reads me...❤❤
Thank you!
❤ I went to the link for her restaurant what amazing food
Thank you for the story! As an American expat, living abroad for very similar reasons, your story really resonated with me ❤😊
I would definitely like to visit her restaurant at some point. Despite the challenges, keep going and things will improve.
I will be coming to your restaurant. That pasta looks amazing.
It was amazing. I'm still dreaming about it. And you should check out Habitat in Koh Lanta. There are a lot of pictures of the really good food.
Glad to see you continue to grow and reinvent, Jen. Sending lots of love ❤️
MUCH : RESPECT ‼️👍🙏🏻
Good for you. Life is too short, enjoy while you can and I like to move to Thailand next year to early retirement and definitely choose beach place to retire. Best wishes on your journey. 👏👏👏
So rare to see such brutally honest perspective on one's own life...and finally reaching a state of contentment like she did. Never once heard her blame others throughout the interview, nor play victim. This interview blew me away.
I feel the same way
Amazing interview of an incredible woman. God bless her!
Oh hunny..I’m so sorry for that immense grief! No parent should go through that ❤
Bless you mama. I know this pain too…. Your story touched my heart and gives me hope. Next time I come to Thailand, I’ll come by for a meal… (and I’m a vegan too❤)
You have some great stories and beautiful people on your channel, you and mon should be proud, thankyou ❤👍👍
Thank YOU for your beautiful comment.
What an amazing woman. So many major challenges to overcome. I am plant based diet ,so definitely come to your place.
❤ you have learned a most valuable life lesson. Through a devastating, life-changing, and much suffering 😢
Going back to Thailand this January for 3 months. If I feel the way I have the last 2 trips I am gearing up to sell my house in Toronto and move! It's magical.
I love how everytime you have a guest who has such an interesting story and lifestyle. She's a lovely lady, wish her all the best ❤
Everyone should remember this works for her at least currently. Does not mean it would work for you. Life is about choices. Make good choices for yourself.
Thanks for sharing, touching story.
You are amazing. Wishing you and your life story all the best from my heart
Also, you show great strength by sharing your story.
So agree with you
She’s brave and hardworking. All the best to her ❤
Your videos a wonderful and so unique. Thank you for your efforts!
Many foreigners have a similar story of losing their $ in the beginning and having to start again from scratch. I would love it if you could slip into one of your videos a discussion of how to properly invest in Thailand (real estate or a business) and avoid such a loss. Discuss not just the lessons learned but also the solutions learned.
I understand Jen very good. I live in Thailand 23 years and would not want to live anywhere else . Does Jen have a youtube channel ?
No she doesn't. But you can go visit her at her restaurant Habitat on Koh Lanta if you get a chance to come.
Love your new videos!
Wow thanks!
Great!
What a great lady. I am content so I am so happy she to has found contentment :)
Welcome to Thailand. In buddhism we believe that who passed they are at a better place than earth. I will die if anything happens to my daughter, I can live without her. You're so strong. I can't imagine how you can do it. Please Live Day by day & don't mind the negative energy.
Appreciate the story told here. Living in Paradise comes at a price for everyone. You can either afford this, or you can't. Most have to slog it out in jobs we don't really want. The brave refuse to be victims of our destiny. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thumbs up 👍 Lanta
And I LOVE your account name @@mangostickyrice555
Great movie! I like all the different camera angles. And what a beautiful person your guest is! I am impressed by her strength and determination ❤ all the best for her ❤
I learned a lot from Hedi, the photographer who stayed with us for a little while. So now I stepped up my game a little 😂 thanks for being so supportive!
@@SweetLifeLanta I used to work behind the camera as Makeup artist & hairstylist. That’s why I picked up on your new game! It’s visible 😍 if you ever need advice on looks, I am here.
@@misschris662omg, give me some advice please hahahahhaa. Do you follow me on instagram? @sweetlifelanta
@@SweetLifeLantaI can tell you one thing right away! 😊 you look stunning with your hair back, like you did in the video. Less distraction around your face shows your beauty. I would grow it and put it up. As I assume it’s hard to find someone who is able to work well with the curls. ❤
@@misschris662 ahhh so sweet! Okay i will grow it for a while 😍😍😍
Thank you Mayaan for doing this interview . It was an inspirational story 💕
Special place heart felt
Great lady.
Great video ! I understand everything she said i get it ♥️
❤🙏🏻for Jens story! She seems such a lovely gal & I understand how she feels. That view is stunning. She will get back on top because shes a survivor. Girl Power❤️💪🏻🍀🎋
The ending had me in tears
Yep I knew this was Mon”” I heard his voice and felt his Free Spirit Vibe😂❤😂❤
When I heard she said “she is poorer than a box of rocks”, I disagree. She said she’s never been more content, that makes her “very rich”. I will visit her restaurant when I get to Koh Lanta.
💯 some people are so poor all they have is money BOB MARLEY
often you see the richest people who are the unhappiest, loneliest, always looking glum and sad but the poorer who are happy and smiling despite their struggles.
Enjoy your life and I love it. Good luck
Thank you for this amazing video! inspired to travel :)
koh lanta is just full of stories and good people......
Good for you 🎉
Finally a Thailand story of a woman! Only ever visited Thailand once for a month way back in early 2000’s and loved it. I could live there now but too far away from Europe the children and maybe more the grandchildren. Oh well.
I have a few more women stories on my channel. Have you watched this one already:

And this one:

And many more!
Thanks for watching!
@@SweetLifeLanta I’m going to watch them all! Thank you. 🙏
Beautiful video...she is living her life, making food, loving her life yet has had such tragedy my heart went out to her...Thank You
There are many Americans, not just men coming to work or start a business in Thailand. It's hard to believe how horrible and mundane the daily life is in the USA. South East Asia must be eye opening to them.
Good on this lady, I don't eat animals either. Wishing you all the best. From New Zealand
She is an inspiration.
Excellent video.
love her xx
Jen is a strong woman. Hope her son visits him regularly because nothing is more important than spending time with your family.
Good for her
Loved your video ….Have a nice day from Canada 🍁!
Life abroad in general is a better kind of life as a human being. Life in the USA became so dull and boring. Ive owned my house for 13 years and i dont know not one of my neighbors everyone is isolated in there well manicured homes. Now the winter is coming and its 5 months of being stuck home because its freezing outside 😢😢😢
Beautiful video Mayan ❤
Great story...really inspired...natural give happiness
Very good video. You should do one with Pearly.
Yeah in Laughlin, NV. People aren't the same once I moved here! The cost strip my savings # I work now @ 66
It is best to have pension from the US and retire in Thailand.
Or at Bali Indonesia..oh so beauty Island …to retired…
Being content is everything ❤
I'm sooooo sorry
You are absolutely an inspiration
Yeah I think we don't need to make a ton of money but just enough to live comfortably then that is all good❤ and of course having good friends.
