Stepping back is a good idea in general. You want to walk into your shot no matter what system you use to aim. And stepping back and walking into the line allows you more margin on aim. This tip helped my wife with missing alot.
I find that if you can not hit the thin cuts so fast due to position use a little inside English to achieve that slight overcut necessary if position allows.
I like this concept. I approach every shot at my cue’s distance away from the cue ball before I walk into my stance. I use a 64” cue which gives me a little more distance as well. I find that I can see my references better at that distance, plus it trains my consistency for my pre shot routine.
Stepping back is always a good idea, on any shot. I don't usually aim these think cuts edge to edge and then make a shift, but I will start working on this. I can definitely see how this would really help with those extremely think cut shots.
Just watched it again. I do that ALOT....U definitely hit the 3 ball the best of the three examples at the end of the segment. Great info! If I had the $$, Ide schedule a class immediately!!
Awesome Anthony! I'm going to give this a try, love the idea of changing the aiming perspective, would have never thought of it. Missed this exact shot a few weeks ago and it cost me $!
I'll keep my stick out in front of me when I step back to help with a visual line, and I'll walk that line in with the stick out there to keep it in sight.
I'm a fairly new player, and when cutting a very thin shot, I tend to miss hitting the object ball completely about 20% of the time. Even when redoing the shot several times. Lining up edge to edge has never occured to me. I cant wait to get to a table and try this!!
It could be the camera angle, but it looks like he's adding a bit of outside spin on these cut shots. Makes sense, if he's adjusting his aim for spin induced throw as well, it means he could be marginally aiming for a slightly thicker cut and still get the same result.
Good advice on hitting those thin cuts with some speed, but sometimes position requires a softer shot. I overcut those to account for the throw, and / or add some outside english.
I saw another video on using outside english to spin the OB in where slow speed made it work better. Different deal I suppose so more power without using english eliminates cut induced throw as you said. Hmm.
Great video. I usually try to hit thin cut shots with some inside English unless I can’t due to running into another ball. It seems to help give it a little extra to pocket the ball. Does that seem unnecessary to you ?
Just watched this video again. When your lining up for the 75 angle. It looks like your shaft edge might be a little to the right of center. I know you use edge of shaft aiming. Just wondering even though your parallel, are you using the edge of your shaft to aim ? Thanks
To play and develop very well on Amercan sized pool table, get your child an English/Irish dimentioned pool table with smaller balls and pockets, and then later in life wherever they are in the world playing on American sized tables it will seem easy to them and they will win 90% of games.
How is that a 60 degree cut shot has the same aiming angle -- edge to edge -- as a 75 degree cut shot? There must be some adjustment to account for the different angles.
@@poolteacher Thanks. It just seems to me that if you move the cueball to increase the angle from, say, 60 to 75 degrees, you should be aiming at a different part of the object ball. Edge to edge would seem to be the same aim. What am I not getting?
This was my question as well. If the aim line is parallel to the line the edge of the cue ball makes with edge of the object ball then the ball would not cut both 60 and 75 and everything in between. Now it sounds like AB is saying you line up edge to edge as a guide but then judge to cut a little less thin if it’s on the 60 degree line vs the 75? I don’t think that was stated in the video but it has to work that way? Anyway great channel with great content!! I watch at least one video a day.
Great cut shot lesson. I was hitting these shots softly not realizing the angle difference from hitting them harder. 14:07

I think he is? From appearance, and saying "edge of the cue *parallel* to the centre of the ball".

A helpful video where I learned better to hit with speed. What about hitting with inside or outside English?
The Last example was your best one
Thank you! I’ver been working on cut shots for a week+ with no consistent success - UNTIL I watched this! PEP!
Thank you for this info. I love the game, so I study videos to help me get better. 😁

What's up Bastrop
Gordy's Template is a great Tool. It is imperative to use it, so you can develop your visual skills.
Thanks for the lesson!!
I bought a table right before Covid and have been trying to teach my son to cut shots consistently. I want that template!

Love when I learn a new technique! Thx!
Excellent coach and teacher
Nice lesson on those cuts I often miss.

Gordie V. is a helluva nice guy. His SLA aiming is very good.
I always enjoys your videos
Quality ! Thanks
Thank you!!! I appreciate it.
Another fantastic video, Anthony. Thank you.
Great content as all ways Anthony.

Correct but that’s a completely different lesson
@@poolteacher I’m already looking forward to that video! Thanks!
Excellent. Thank you.
Where can I find the template that your using in the video because it seems very helpful to get used to the different angles.

Above is a quick link showing the template in use by the instructor who created and sells them

Anthony...that tool you're using, do you know anyone who is selling there or selling one? I think it would work well with your instruction.
I've always done it just like this! My problem is I'm getting older, my eye sight iblows.. ready for glasses 🤕
Call Dr. Curran at Billiard Glasses by Curran. Best thig I ever did for my game other than play 6 hours a day!! Great Doctor and guy!!

good explanation
I love the template and I understand what you are saying about edge to edge, but I don't really understand step 3.
Luv this video
Can I purchase the template you have been using? Thank you
Think you
Thank you
Location changes your perception of your perspective.
Link to template shown at 2:30?
Enjoyed your instruction however I may have missed where you get the templates you use. I would like a couple of these for myself
I bought the templates .look up strike line aiming
Strike line aiming gave me 10.00 off when I told him I seen it on Anthony beeler you tube
@@patschneider5032 I see you bought the striking line templates. Do you still use them ? If not , would you like to sell them ?
There is a fun fact that I learned about a cut anyting Center or above Center makes the object ball go with the cue ball
Provided they are close together in proximity… they can’t be far away.
Can’t be shot with speed either
Do you have a link to the grid pattern your using ?
good tips , thanks
I found it on the your video. Thanks
I like the info but hitting too hard also increases the chances to scratch after you make the shot though?
Where did younget that practice mat with the angles?
Love it
I play 8-ball mostly for fun but would like to improve my game do you teach in person I reside in Boston Ma
Call me at 606-669-8401. Be glad to schedule something
Where can I buy 1?
Good content!!
Does outside English not help with these 60 & 75 degree cuts?
how can I get the angle template?
Should put the template in the video description..
what exactly do you mean by edge to edge? what edge to what edge?
I DIDN'T KNEW MATHEW DELAVIDOVA IS A BILLIARD PLAYER,
How does english effect thin cut shots?
The template is no longer available. Has anyone got a used one they want to sell?
You know I forgot the back up ,thank you
Right English is the magic!
Yes but that’s a separate lesson
Template is not available anymore
I sell my own template on poolteacher.com it’s under the products tab

It’s not the same angle. You aim it different visually. That’s what the video is about… using edge to edge to aim differently.
@@poolteacher Thanks. It just seems to me that if you move the cueball to increase the angle from, say, 60 to 75 degrees, you should be aiming at a different part of the object ball. Edge to edge would seem to be the same aim. What am I not getting?
@@davidraphael9441 you are. That’s what I’m saying in the video. You judge how much of the edge makes contact on each angle.
@@poolteacher Thank you. I will try it on a table.

I swear I know nothing. I thought slower gives cut induced throw. I'd through massive, slow shot to make those high cut angles.
I am going to try. At the 730 mark, it looks like he takes 5 steps in.
Hitting w power is NOT a great option. Control of cue ball and next shot is to be considered.
So much better at 1.5x speed
I think cut shots are actually easy
we all already know this
That’s cause you are so smart
Would agree that most missed cut shots are undercut?
Tell the truth….how many takes before u made the 3 shots?????
First times
That’s a uncomfortable thumbnail
Where can I buy the pool protractor??
I sell them on my page. www.poolteacher.com then click on products and you will see the latest template that we have for sale.
