And in 9, Zidane references Cloud when seeing a big sword at a shop and Rufus's inauguration song is even played. Probably Easter Eggs for the most part, though one of the developers did say he liked to think of 10 as a prequel to 7. And 7 does mention people coming from another planet that everyone other than Aeris are descended from.

Probably using KH3's development cycle as a basis. Nomura had FF7R brushed off to the side until he finished KH3 (Which has been confirmed on Nomura's twitter to have wrapped up production). With the likeliness of a new console generation happening it's likely that the game will undergo a change in engine part way thorough development just like KH3 and take 5 years due to it.
Consider this, Forever Zero: This video will *always* forecast FF7 HD as being 5 years from being complete. There's been a number of games over the years that have had that kind of situation, where the release date is "in a year" for 3-4 years running. This is why Blizzard now lists release dates for games as "when it's ready" until they actually have a month or so of beta testing left. They did that with both Warcraft 3 and Starcraft Ghost back in the day. (Only the former game actually came out - Ghost was meant to be a stealthy MGS-like game featuring Nova as the protagonist.) The ultimate example of this phenomenon isn't in game development, though. It's in nuclear fusion power technology. We've been saying "fusion power is 20 years away" since the 1960s, at least. We're getting incrementally closer, but we're still a long way off from actually having a power plant that puts less power into a fusion reaction than that reaction produces.

In their version, Tifa is plotting to murder Aerith for the affections of Cloud, Yuffie basically speaks like Tommy Wiseau, Vincent is just so gosh darn peppy all the time, and my favorite of all is Cid who is suffering from a mental breakdown and experiencing memories of the lives of the other Cids in the other Final Fantasy games.

Josh Reichardt I think it was because the HighWind was almost complete in Junon (that’s why they went by ship). Cid’s Tiny Bronco was the only thing faster then a ship to get to the Temple of the Ancients

Josh Reichardt I think it was because the HighWind was almost complete in Junon (that’s why they went by ship). Cid’s Tiny Bronco was the only thing faster then a ship to get to the Temple of the Ancients
