Definitely warm clothes and decent sturdy footwear as well. If you’re in Riga the travel passes are excellent value for money. A 3-day Riga pass for trams, buses and trolley buses costs €10. It’s also a beautiful city to walk around, there are loads of stunning buildings. As for the toilet - I’m at the stage I’m nervous venturing into the toilet in my own house! 🤣 thanks so much for watching, I really appreciate it!
Brought back some great memories of my trip in the opposite direction last year. Mind you, at least it was warmer when I did it! Fair do’s to you both for braving it and yes, the seats reminded me of a bus aswell. Great video mate 👍
Just for the record the Soviet Design Diesel (and the very similar look Electrics) were actually made not far over the river from the station you boarded at. The manufacturer was called RVR and had a long history in Rīga before it was closed about 2018 (not sure exactly when) I think at one stage in the early 1900s the company actually made or assembled Ford Vehicles under license. One reason these old things have been kept in use, rebuilt and updated was the amount of spares and bits, while say Estonia, and Lithuania changed to newer EU Designs. Latvia does have new designs progressively coming into use this year.. ER2M-605 is one of the oldest Design EMUs still running, with the old round front designs, but with a somewhat updated interior
This is spooky mate, I haven't even watched the video yet, but I'm going to Riga a week on Monday and hoping to do some train trips, so I'll be watching this with a pen and paper! :D (and open to any extra tips you can give me) Right, on with the show...
Great video of your “ little adventure “ . Not sure I would go to Latvia in Winter , I don’t like cold weather , but it was lovely to see those kids on the toboggans at time time 4:55 . . Looking forward to seeing more adventurous escapades .👍
Seats are refurbished - designed probably by trains mechanical engineer. At a time refurbishing was done - design was not priority. Dont remember what was original seats on diesel trains, but on electric ones they were nice wooden benches.
And fabric choise was probably done by price, as most likley there was public procurment and this fabric offer was cheapest - but its not so terrible - you can look at it. ;)
So the big tip is wear warm clothes! I get very worried these days when I see you venture into the toilet. Fantastic vide mate, really enjoyed it :)

It was a lot of fun. I have to agree, a good old “proper” train! Thanks for watching!

Must say it snowed a lot while you were there! I might take a visit just for the snow.
Superb video as always!
It’s well worth a visit. It’s fun to see how other places deal with snow compared to the UK. Thanks for watching mate.
Lovely video!
We thoroughly enjoyed it! Snow always helps.
Next video Tim has a beer on a train to test the stabilty of the bogeys ?
Great to watch as always Tim 👍
A completely new angle for travel reviews! Thanks for watching mate!
Great video as usual! Very retro, clinging on to Soviet chic? Those seats are definitely old bus / coach seats probably from the same era... Thanks!
Soviet chic sounds right. I loved the retro look. It was tremendous fun.

Oh remembered - original seats were terribe color soviet vinil and 2 seated and 3 seated benches.

Thanks for that background information. Very helpful!
Have you visited Elen 🔥, Miss X in Valmiera?
I have not. Just went to the brewery.
