Thank you for sharing this video. Although very difficult but it helped me understand what was happening with my dog when she went into heart failure 💔heartbreaking as it was, this opens up awareness for other dog parents and warning signs to look for
Thank you for your message. According to Coco's cardiologist at that time, it was a miracle that Coco was alive. From the videos I uploaded, it might seem like Coco was having syncope episode every day, but actually, her heart condition was fairly well controlled with medication during that period. She was even eating normally until the last few days of her life. Even though I find it very painful to watch these videos now, my original intention in starting this channel was to help other dog owners that are going through the same experience with heart disease. Even if it only helps a little, I believe I am doing something good for Coco. I think Coco, somewhere in the universe, would be very pleased to know that she’s able to help the others. What I want to convey is that I understand how difficult this journey is-watching your beloved ones go through hardships while feeling powerless. But as long as your dog is willing to fight alongside you, don't give up. Find the right veterinarian, and with proper medication management, euthanasia is not the only option for animals with heart disease. Sending you lots of love!
It’s really hard going through this with a dog. Deep down we just want them to go peacefully in their sleep. But with CHF, you have to progressively watch them deteriorate. I just put my long hair chihuahua down at 14.5. She started signs of CHF at 14, and the syncope started 4 months after. It went on for a month and a half progressively getting more episodes a day. When her breathing increased to 60+ breaths per minute in the final 2 days, I had to make the call to the mobile vet. She went peacefully in my arms at home. Devastating to go through.
Please accept my deepest condolences, I absolutely understand all the phases you've been through and nobody but us will know how difficult it is to make that decision because every dogs has different condition. Sending big hugs to you, our love to our beloved furry ones will remains forever.
I absolutely appreciate this video, as my dog was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. She had syncope yesterday when we exited the car after leaving the vet. She is currently on Sildenafil and keppra (not yet sure if she’s having seizures or syncope). I disagree with your vet. Do not put her to sleep. As long as she’s fighting to be alive, keep fighting with her. We wouldn’t put to sleep the people that we love. I know these vet bills and meds are expensive , but our pet children depend on us. I don’t know how you were able to record these videos. Whenever my dog has an episode, I feel like it’s the end of the world and I try to console her until it’s over. Your video helped me to understand what happened yesterday. God bless you and Coco. 🙏🏾
my dog was only 3 when she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension as well. she was on vetmedin and another medicine (i forgot the name) and we eventually had to take her to get her stomach fluid drained every month, then eventually every two weeks. she passed away when she was six, last year 😢😢 she was in so much pain all the time and we’re just glad she’s been relieved of that pain now. it was hard to decide whether to put her down or to keep fighting, but we decided to keep fighting (although that may be selfish of us) with her. but she was so happy with us everyday and we didn’t feel like it was fair to her to put her down when she hadn’t reached her end of life symptoms yet.
@@cinnamonliebe that’s my point exactly. You totally did the right thing, because your baby was so happy to be around her family. Our situation is returning. My dog is having seizures again, with difficulty breathing. She’s on sildenafil, vetmedin and a plethora of other drugs. When we were in the ICU the first time, the doctor recommended to think about euthanasia. I didn’t. She did ok for 3 months and now the seizures are back. I’m fighting until God makes the decision. I love her too much.
@@zazaiowens1407 Thank you for your message. At the beginning of Coco's heart disease battle, I was very sure that I would be with her until the very end, and my bottom line was very clear: I would only consider euthanasia if Coco did not eat or drink and could not take care of herself. With this understanding, I began to actively search for a cardiologist with the same philosophy. I'm sure Coco knew that I was so determined to fight her heart disease together that I ended up finding three best cardiologists in Taiwan for Coco (why three? because I needed to make sure I had other backups in case one of them couldn't schedule a visit right away), it is very, very important to find the right doctor that share the same medical idea with you, they have all told me that heart disease, whether in animals or humans, will never reach the point of euthanasia because all CHF patients will eventually passed away of other factors, such as kidney failure, pulmonary edema or so on. Although there is a theoretical upper limit for the use of cardiac drugs such as Pimobendan or Sildenafil... etc., according to their professional experience of more than 20 years of medical practice, there is no upper limit for the dosage of these drugs as they are administered with precision and the animal's response is observed at all times. Coco's appetite was still very good and she was in good spirits overall until her last day, she was truly a fighter and I'm very blessed she let me fight together with the decease until the end and never need to consider about euthanasia just like all of Coco's cardiologist said. I am extremely grateful to Coco's cardiologist because during Coco's last month, although she had to stay in the oxygen chamber 24/7, the cardiologist knew how worried I was about Coco so he let me sleep on the floor in the hospital even though it was not a 24-hour hospital, just so I could be close to Coco to observe her condition and take care of her at all times, the doctor also stayed up almost every night with me to take care of Coco until the last minute because of this. If not for the support of these doctors, I would not have had the opportunity to fight with Coco for a long time and let Coco accompany me for two more years of that precious time we spent together. About the video I had recorded, it was actually Coco who inspired me too. There were nights when I felt so helpless that I started to learn about cardiology just to have a good communication with the doctors, and as an owner, I understand that the only way I can really know what to do is if I am involved in the whole medical process but not just listen to what doctors told me. All three of Coco's cardiologists told me they had never seen a dog with a heart this big and live this long, so in order to help as many helpless owners as I was before, I decided to record all of Coco's symptoms as best I could, even though it was selfish and very painful for me as an owner to be around to record the seizures, but now I know that I did the right thing and I also believe that Coco understands that all this is out of love and a desire to help as many people as possible. Please keep faith and fight with your beloved furry friend until the very last minute, I know how difficult and frustrated this long road is but you are not alone.

Hi my pet Maltese had the same symptoms not doing well at all on MEDS I strongly would recommend reduce the MEDS as they are toxic and vets have no idea please believe I have done extensive research. My protocol look at the dogs body weight my dog weighs 2.5 kg use to weigh 3 kg all fluid prior so this is a guide reduce Furosemide only giving 5 mg once a day in the morning down from 10 mg , Enalapril which I totally deleted from her meds, Cardisure {PIMOBENDAN] 1.25 mg down from 5 mg daily. Then I introduced a holistic approach protocol as follows with breakfast mix 1/4 teaspoon L- Taurine powder, Ubiquinol Brand Bark and Whiskers from Dr Mercola 5 pumps into the mouth after breakfast. Midday mix in a small glass 5 to 8 drops Hawthorn berry Leaf and Root Tincture, 5 to 8 drops Dandelion Tincture, 2 drops Heart support and 3 drops Throat and Lung support mix with small amount of water and syringe into mouth I purchase from a pet naturopath here in Australia link naturalpetsupplements.com.au Dinner mix L-Carnitine powder 4 pumps of omega 3 flaxseed oil and that's the daily protocol. I can tell you my dog has had no more seizures no coughing more energy not urinating all the time and best of all no fluid build up constant weight of 2.5/ 2.6 kg an amazing turn around, I basically cured its heart murmur Mitral valve regurgitation believe me you can reverse stage 1,2,3 and potentially stage 4 heart Murmurs don't let vets tell you otherwise. Happy to help with any info good luck
Please someone be honest. My dog was diagnose heart disease 2 years ago she’s being taken medication. She had 3 of these and vomiting a little. She did it 3 times in 24 hours. I didn’t want to be selfish I took her to the vet to make the horrible decision to put her to sleep. The vet did a X-ray and told me they can take the liquid inside her out. And she could live a week or so. Did I do the right thing of putting her to sleep ?? I’m seen a lot of people saying it’s maybe normal for dogs with hear disease to do this. I feel awful cause when I took her to the vet she was doing much better and she was happy. But vet told me is time and I listen :(
My sincerest condolences for you at this time. You must know that every decision you make at that moment is the best decision, no matter the result is good or bad it is based on love, even if you do it again you will still make the same decision. Coco has passed away over a year now, all we can do is try to remember all the laughters and sweet moments they brought us and cherish it forever. Always be kind to the others.
My 12 year old Pomeranian had the same thing. He was diagnosed with a heart murmur about a year ago! He’s been on Vetmedin for about that year. And just this year he began to shown symptoms of heart failure such as cough and gagging. Brought him to the vet 2 or 3 around since March-April. Then this past month on May 5th he had a collapse episode fell to the ground struggling to breathe! I rushed him to the vet and they told me he would need to spend the night on oxygen. Got the call that I did not want and he didn’t get better. The vet suggested putting him down bc his gums were blue and couldn’t breathe outside of the oxygen chamber. I listened to their recommendation so I am in the same position as you! I see people saying this is manageable. But I didn’t want my boy to die suddenly or suffer! So I thought it was best to put him down! Sometimes I feel so guilty and feel as though maybe he could have lived a bit longer 😞💔😢😭
@Coco The Maltese hi, my baby is 14 with heart failure taking meds for that. But last year she started these spisodes and she yelps loudly when she is getting them😢. Can you please tell me what to expect in the final days to best prepare myself. Like what signs or how long after having these episodes did your baby still live? Or should I just put my baby to rest forever so she doesn't suffer anymore. I would love for her to keep living and just pass in her sleep. But I feel like maybe that won't be possible and she will suffer and maybe pass during one of these episodes😢 idk what to do
Please accept my deepest condolences and I am very sorry for your loss. Coco passed away on August 15th in 2021, she fight with CHF until the very last minute. Everything happened so fast before she became an angel, she was in the oxygen chamber and all of the sudden she started to bark with a high pitched voice, so me and Coco's cardiologist rushed to check on her, then she had another syncope and had her last breathe in just a few seconds. Her appetite and energy was still very good until her last day, she was truly a fighter and I'm very blessed she let me fight with her until the last minute.
My chihuahua/corgi is 14 with heart failure and started getting syncope episodes last year. This is her 4th one, I'm not sure if I should put my poor baby to rest😢 I don't want her to suffer, she yelps when she gets these episodes and it sucks because there's nothing I can do for her. Y’all are sick ASF making these poor things suffer because you want them around longer. Like go to therapy and put the dog to sleep. Sorry for your loss. Coco passed away on 15th August 2021, I miss her every single day, but deep in my heart I believe she just changed a form to stay by my side, whenever you raise you head and see a star hanging on the sky or feeling a breeze of wind and even a sudden butterfly or little bee nearby, that’s our beloved little furry friend saying hi and sending you their love. It hurts, I know, but time will heal, at least that’s what I told myself. Wishing I could hug you from afar.
💔I just came across your video in a desperate attempt to find a similar situation that my fur baby is going through right now. She is a 12.5 year old Shiba Inu. Very difficult to watch them go through this and I’m sure most parents are frozen in terror and unable to record what is happening. My baby isn’t demonstrating behavior like a seizure and is missing symptoms relating to stroke. But what your poor baby is doing in this video is EXACTLY what mine is doing now. Her vet swears she’s having seizures but I’m just not buying it. In between her episodes (4 in less than a week), she is her normal high energy self and it’s just breaking my heart with distraught because I can’t find the answer to help her and desperately do not want to euthanize unless absolutely necessary. I have her scheduled for an ECG and chest x rays tomorrow because I’m pretty adamant that it’s the same condition. I’m a very worried doggy mom in search of answers. Thank you for your bravery in capturing this and posting it.
I'm so sorry for what you're going through, my dog has mitral valve disease and it's terrible to watch. She had an Echo done. Trust your gut. My other dog has epilepsy and seizures look way different.
Thank you for the replies. Her chest exams and vitals have all come back normal. She was started on a low dose Phenobarbital prescription and has only had one small incident since. A “breakthrough seizure” is what I was told and has something to do with her brain deteriorating 💔 It’s been weeks of barely sleeping and staying as close to her as possible. So far the prescription seems to be helping but it just did not look like a typical seizure. So hard to explain, but definitely could tell something was not right.
@@lilneenja8611 make sure they are diagnosing correct I’ve seen so many people on TH-cam say they incorrectly diagnosed their dog with seizure when it wasn’t and it was heart murmur/CHF. Seizures usually have saliva coming out a dogs mouth and they twitch non stop. Keep an eye on
That dog should have been euthanized asap. My girl started doing this and I had her put down. It was super hard to do but I knew it was the right thing.

She looks exactly like my girl. We were diagnosed with CHF a couple weeks ago.
Our maltese Gizmo has just been put to sleep. 😢😢😢we are devastated. Its unbearable
Thanks.❤️
thanks for replying thanks for the nice words
But I feel like maybe that won't be possible and she will suffer and maybe pass during one of these episodes😢 idk what to do
how is coco now?coz my beloved maltese just passed away with the same heart disease 15years age
Syncope is horrible. I have a Maltese too, he is 14 and has heart disease. My baby gets them but he spasms and squeals loudly.
Do you know how long a dog can live with this? I give her meds for he heart but these episodes just started last year and before then she was OK except of course for the chf..
@@84848AR I wouldnt put my dog down just because he got one. The vet told me we could continue to up the meds until he is no longer responding. My poor baby has gotten up to 2 a day and many a week. He is getting weaker but he is not bloated or stopped eating. As long as he is eating and the meds are working enough, I wont put him down.
@@madelynhernandez7453 yea my girl is getting weak as well and she is bloated but still eats. She is trying I just hate that she might be suffering and I'm just being selfish in wanting to keep her from resting 😪
At the beginning of Coco's heart disease battle, I was very sure that I would fight CHF with her until the very end, and my bottom line was very clear: I would only consider euthanasia if Coco did not eat or drink and could not take care of herself.
With this understanding, I began to actively search for a cardiologist with the same philosophy. I'm sure Coco knew that I was so determined to fight her heart disease together that I ended up finding three best cardiologists in Taiwan. It is very important to find the right doctor that share the same medical plans with you, they have all told me that heart disease, whether in animals or humans, will NEVER reach the point of euthanasia because all CHF patients will eventually passed away of other factors, such as kidney failure, pulmonary edema or so on.
Although Coco passed away on 15th August 2021, Coco's appetite was still very good and she was in good spirits overall until her last day, she was truly a fighter and I'm very blessed she let me fight together until the end and never need to consider about euthanasia just like all of Coco's cardiologist said.
Please keep faith until the very last minute, you are not alone.
@@84848AR if the meds are working she shouldnt be bloated. Try natural diuretics like dandelion leaf not root.
My 15 year old chihuahua corgi mix died from the same, it was heartbreaking and still is heartbreaking. I wish I could have helped her to not suffer, all I could do was pet her and let her know I was there with her. If I was able to drive, I would have drove her to the emergency vet. I hope you are doing ok.
You could’ve taken a cab stop the excuses you didn’t care enough

I know it's been a year, but how is Coco now? I'm trying to decide if I should put my Bailey down or wait.💔

If not for the support of this doctor, I would not have had the opportunity to fight with Coco for a long time and let Coco accompany me for two more years of precious time.
How coco now? Is he okay now?

@@cocothemaltese5091 Sorry to hear Coco passed. But it was the best thing for her, poor baby was suffering with a bad heart. So sad, it's heartbreaking to see. May she R.I.P., no more suffering. 🤍
@@cocothemaltese5091 sorry for your loss
Y’all are sick ASF making these poor things suffer because you want them around longer. Like go to therapy and put the dog to sleep. Make a dog suffer for who the fuck knows how long. 🤢😡
I wanna see you guys letting a sibling or child suffer around on the ground, honking, confused, seizing in pain and can’t breathe 🙄🙄🙄
And who tf are you that determines when a living being should be put to rest? God? Don’t think so! STFU!
I wish I saw your video earlier. The vet thought she has a seizure…tirbs out it was fainting and mine has way worse than yours with screaming..I hated watching her suffer & she got worse & more frequent in the week leading to her death. 😢

@@cocothemaltese5091 It's been 4 weeks since I had to set her free. How old was Coco when she grew her wings? She looks like my mom's Maltese that was 15.5 when he earned his wings.

My dog had the same problem :( 😞
It’s CHF most likely your dog is fainting it is not a seizure. Did they give you vetmedin?
Keep an eye on
@@jonothanrivera6223 Thank you 🙏 I am definitely going to look into getting a second opinion.

I’m sorry 😞
What was the cause of it?
Congestive Heart Failure.
@@cocothemaltese5091were there any early symptoms that lead to it?
Every animals might have different symptoms. I would suggest an annual body check is very important and see it from there.
@@cocothemaltese5091 were you feeding him grain free kibble before?
She used to have grain-free kibbles when she was way younger, then we turned all-whole-foods diet as I’m a nutritionist.

That dog should have been euthanized asap. My girl started doing this and I had her put down. It was super hard to do but I knew it was the right thing.
