    Even though I would never do this myself (because I would definitely screw up), I do look forward to new parts in this series and also the end result!

      It is somewhat time consuming, but you wouldn't screw it up. It really isn't that difficult and the improved performance of the EVOX-R projector is so so worthwhile. I am hoping to get one finished headlight fitted to the car in about a fortnight, so I can get out into the lanes and film a before and after comparison by covering one light at a time (it goes dark before 8pm here now)

      The lights I'm modding are a pair of extra lights I sourced from breakers. That way I can still use my car while doing the work and if I screw up it's not such a disaster. Maybe do the same?

    Very informative! Can you advise on how to clean the inside of reflector headlights if they have accumulated dust? What should be used that won't damage the reflector?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      try a canned air duster. Wipe after (gently) with a good quality natural fibre paint brush.

      Similar question "How to the clean car headlight aluminum reflector without removing the lens?"
      I saw some video of using a Neodymium magnet inside a sponge with a soft microfiber cloth outside to clean the inside of the lens. So can we use the same method to clean the aluminum reflector without scratching it?

    2:18 what about using Vaseline or some kind of petroleum jelly where the paint can’t adhere and can be wiped off after the rest dries??

    Loving the saab content, even if my saab gremlins are multiplying and driving me crazy at the moment... ps the Saabsite's vin search is back although slightly different now and you do have to register on the site to access it.. but registration is free so all is good again...

    Hi mate. I’m looking to do this to my VW Polo 9N 2006, is this road legal (UK) and does it effect the light shine/reflection. Thanks 👍😁

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As mentioned in the video, I painted the 'non working' part of the reflector unit. If you paint the 'working' part you will massively cut the light output.

  • @ursusskandia

    What product did you use for the reflector part?

  • @lilwaffleboy

    What paint did you use for the reflectors? Would 200 degrees F paint be good enough?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just an ordinary matt black enamel. 2 coats. the reflector itself doesn't see much heat, so yeah your suggestion should be fine.

    Nice vid... Can the projector housing be painted or does it effect the light output

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could, but why would you want to since it won't be seen anyway? It would only affect the light output if you painted the reflector surface, but here the paint would probably burn off. Those bulbs get mighty hot.

      Whatever else you do, DON'T try to remove it. You will bring the aluminium off the bowl.

      @@LIONKING1103 which BMW is it? Is it a hella E55 projector?

  • @konasteph
    @konasteph 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    what impressed me about your approach was the very practical advice you gave on AVOIDING to stick expensive, LED's, Halogens or what have you, into the old burned Hella projector as this will not improve light output. So, here is my question: I saw (haven't actually done this) a DIY way of electrolytically applying NICKEL on conductive surfaces which then results in a shiny mirror like appearance close to the original, Aluminum coated surface (which as we know is not lasting a REALLY LONG time) Do you think it would be worth your while giving this a shot and see how that goes, ...The price of GOOD drop in units to replace the burned Hella units run around $150, in the UK due to taxes etc who knows. Maybe the DIY approach actually works and maybe the Ni coat might be more durable than Aluminum???

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the Ni was likely to be more durable and as good a reflector as the Al, then be assured, the OEMs would be using it. Are you getting that price from TFL? Drop in units for the E55 here bit.ly/E55_replacement are about 40 quid, with the EVOX-R2.0 being only a few quid more in the sale ATM bit.ly/Sinolin_EVOX_R_2_0

    does this decrease light output?

    • @CycloneCyd
      @CycloneCyd  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you paint the whole thing black, YES. That's why I only painted the non-working surface and left the reflector itself.
