As a young black man in his 20s, I do not feel offended watching this. I looked only for history review of my ancestors. I was already taught this when I was in middle school and had seen The Roots. African servitude is NOT to be compared with the European slavery Africans endured. These are two completely different things. Servants in Africa could acquire property and have families, whereas European slavery was dehumanizing to say the least.
The worst part is this created a domino effect that still affects African Americans today. This one group of people were oppressed for so long and had such a late start in the same American society they helped build. True freedom for African Americans has only been 54 years. 54. years.

I am glad that somebody finally pointed out that most African slaves who ended up in the Americas had already been slaves...to other Africans before they were sold to their new enslavers. Africa still to this day condones and utilises slavery of its own peoples.

The reason why this aspect of slavery is talked about so much is because it was world wide and it was the foundation of many countries growth In economy (cotton agriculture etc)stop dampening others pain because it happened to others in society.
It did happen to my ancestors from Scotland after the English won the Battle of Culaden in the 1740's. The wearing of the clan tartan was forbidden and my people were shackled, endentured for 30 years (ie made into slaves) to pay for their passage. They escaped and settled on the frontier and later helped lead the revolution against Geo III.
The Africans were not just purchased. The mothers of the children were captured and the children followed their mothers into captivity. The fathers came to the calls of their women and children and were captured after a few of the men killed by firearms. After a few men were dropped to their deaths, the rest of the men surrendered. It was a lot worse than this video could ever describe.
that's something so many people ignore. the fact that the tribes from the coast dealing with white people attacked tribes behind them with guns that white people gave them and taught them how to use, along with the fact that white people entrapped coastal tribes in an arms race over more guns. So many people like to act like white people were just sailing out on an ocean cruise and africans came "with other africans" out of nowhere and just dropped them on the white people's ships, when the reality was that white people went around to as many tribes on the coast with guns as they could and played off of rivalries between the tribes. and so many people ignore that the reason why the coastal tribes were able to capture as many people for the whites as they did was because of the fact that the tribes behind them had could not defend themselves against the firearms that the white people supplied and trained the coastal tribes with. That's the reason why tribes that dealt with white people such as the dahomeyans grew to be such powerful kingdoms (compared to other tribes not dealing with white people. Dahomey was not powerful enough to take on white people later on)

I am glad that somebody finally pointed out that most African slaves who ended up in the Americas had already been slaves...to other Africans before they were sold to their new enslavers. Africa still to this day condones and utilises slavery of its own peoples.

The reason why this aspect of slavery is talked about so much is because it was world wide and it was the foundation of many countries growth In economy (cotton agriculture etc)stop dampening others pain because it happened to others in society.

It did happen to my ancestors from Scotland after the English won the Battle of Culaden in the 1740's. The wearing of the clan tartan was forbidden and my people were shackled, endentured for 30 years (ie made into slaves) to pay for their passage. They escaped and settled on the frontier and later helped lead the revolution against Geo III.

The Africans were not just purchased. The mothers of the children were captured and the children followed their mothers into captivity. The fathers came to the calls of their women and children and were captured after a few of the men killed by firearms. After a few men were dropped to their deaths, the rest of the men surrendered. It was a lot worse than this video could ever describe.
that's something so many people ignore. the fact that the tribes from the coast dealing with white people attacked tribes behind them with guns that white people gave them and taught them how to use, along with the fact that white people entrapped coastal tribes in an arms race over more guns.
So many people like to act like white people were just sailing out on an ocean cruise and africans came "with other africans" out of nowhere and just dropped them on the white people's ships, when the reality was that white people went around to as many tribes on the coast with guns as they could and played off of rivalries between the tribes.
and so many people ignore that the reason why the coastal tribes were able to capture as many people for the whites as they did was because of the fact that the tribes behind them had could not defend themselves against the firearms that the white people supplied and trained the coastal tribes with. That's the reason why tribes that dealt with white people such as the dahomeyans grew to be such powerful kingdoms (compared to other tribes not dealing with white people. Dahomey was not powerful enough to take on white people later on)
It’s mad how Virginia abolished slavery in the same year that the first remaining pro football (soccer) club was created which was Stoke city in 1863. It’s really not that long ago.
