    Something interesting about the Savoy tricolore flag is that the blue shield around Savoy Cross is the reason because Italian national sport teams wear their famous blue uniform... and are known as "La Squadra Azzura".

    • @marcellosalis5063

      So, the Italian flag originated when Napoleon invaded Italy and created the Cisalpine Republic. It was the same as France but with blue switched to green for differentiation, that's it.
      The Savoyan shield is red (with a white cross on it), not blue. What's blue is the "lambello" on top of the Savoyan shield in the Piemontese flag, because Piemont was a principality (in fact, Emanuele Filiberto is prince of Piemont).
      Finally, the Italian football team dresses in blue in honour to the king of France (Borbone's shield is indeed blue with three fleurs de lis). I believe the first official match was a friendly one against France and/or in presence of the king etc. although the latter might as well be a urban legend.

The whole damn good idea man, i think im gonna use that for my flag to thing probably goes back to even the cavemen lol. adopted by Carlo Alberto in 1848 (23 march), with the crown as ''State/war flag''; spread as ''Italian flag'' with the unification of 1861; abolished on 13 June 1946 (when the last king moved to the exile in Portugal): Republic Constitution starts 01 Janaury 1948: just a plain flag with no emblem. (I'm a royalist, I got many ''monarchist'' flags, with the crown, too). Grets from Rome.

    in the Napoleon's document (October 1796, Lombard Legion) he writes (in French): ''the national colours that THEY have adopted are green,white, red'' so Napoleon didn't invented he himself the colours . in 1794 two students from Bologna, Zamboni e De Rolandis, had yet created a cockade with those colours and that is the first exemple of the italian Tricolour. The Cisalpine Republic (Jenuary 1797 was the first Ste to have adopted that flag). About the choose of the colours there are different opinion: Bologna colours: ''a white shield with a red cross, to which the green rapresenting the Hope, was added (those of the patriots of whole italy joining their ideals). The local militia of Milan dressed in green jackets and white trousers, with some elements in red ''crimson'': probably these uniforms have influenced their banners in the adoprion of the flag of 1796.

    Italy, Iran, Bulgaria, Kurdistan all have the red-white-green coloured flags because of their influence from Mithraism (ancient religion) which was founded (1500 BCE) in the Medean Empire (modern day Iran) and eventually seeped into Ancient Rome (Modern day Italy) heavily influencing the creation of Roman Catholicism. Bulgarians share ethnic lineage with Persians hence similarities in the flag and were once part of the Persian empire.

    The last symbol of the italian republic, that with star and laurel, is real. Is the official symbol of the italian republic in every act and official government also for private citizens. Is the mark, the print, the official one of the republic. But never put in a flag. For the presence of the (possibly red) star is always considered to be the official flag of a possible communist italy. Good old days ahahahaha. Yeah after ww2 nearly half of our pop was communist. What do you expect after partisan and civil war? Greetings from Italy

    • @giacomofracassi388
      @giacomofracassi388 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wait, the white star with red borders has absolutely nothing to do with communism. It's the Stella (or Stellone) d'Italia and it's the oldest symbol representing Italy, dating back to Greek times and having been used for centuries in stamps, paints, statues and so on.
      If you're looking for communist symbols in the Italian emblem you may look at the cog that surrounds the star, which symbolizes work, but it's also a stretch.

    • @furlan1743
      @furlan1743 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except for the fact that half of your comment is wrong since the star wasn't used as a socialist sign but as the Stellone d'Italia.

    Renato del Ponte wrote: "In Rome, the three colors also connote the three primitive tribes of Ramnes, Luceres and Titienses, with whom Romulus creates the prisca city, the legacy of a perhaps even more ancient tradition, so that, designing the site of the original Rome on the basis of this tripartition, we will obtain the palette of our Tricolore, with the green of the Titienses in the north, the white of the Ramnes in the center and the red of the Luceres in the south. But in Rome the three colors were so important that they appeared in the context of flags. These, colored album, roseum, caeruleum, were hoisted on the Capitol to convene, respectively, the comitia curiata (sacral), centuriata (military) and collective tumultus ". It has also been noted that more or less veiled references to the tricolor often appear in the Aeneid, the sacred poem of the Augustan imperial adventure. Giovanni Pascoli, in particular, dwelt on the figure of Pallante, son of Evandro, ally of Aeneas in the war against Turno, king of the Rutuli. In Pascoli's vision, Pallante, killed in combat by Turno, is the first fallen hero for Italy. In the Aeneid we read that Pallante's coffin was intertwined with twigs of strawberry tree and oak branches. Pascoli saw the first tricolor in the coffin of Pallante, because in the strawberry tree, among the green leaves, white flowers still sprout when the berries are already red. In Rome, even the factions of the circus chariot races reproposed the same color scheme: there were the snores, the albati and the virides, respectively sacred to Mars, Jupiter and Venus.

    Berlusconi's flag story is a little more complicated.
    Problem was the right color tune. The art. 12 of Italian Constitution said green, white and red, but there are thousands of greens, whites and reds.
    A commission decide to fix the exact tunes, in pantone they used as a reference of historic flags of XIX century. But colors and material are changed in the XX century - synthetic color and fabrics - and italians were used to brighter (and low cost) colors. So the new flag tunes were opposed. This issue was exploited for political gains too.

    Thank you for this detailed video! I have to say that although the video would be longer with Roman time and the Italian republics and monarchies, we really do not consider the history of our people to begin neither with the Italian unification (which is very new) nor with the Roman empire (you skipped seven kings and 500 years of Roman republic before the empire era!); to us, since Rome’s foundation there is a continuum: 21 April 753 BCE -> Today. Therefore you actually focused over a tiny part of history and symbols of our people, as we feel and be taught. The shewolf, the laurel, the eagle, the SPQR, and the lightnings are very important symbols, and they are still used today in many ways :)
