    Either I must be getting smarter or this was an excellent video. Most videos on all things "Wordpress Website Building" are so confusing to even the most intelligent person. This video is a great example that it is possible to provide a simple, easy-to-follow video for the rest of us! Much appreciated!!!!!

    Hi, what is recommended in 2020 sizes in WordPress Media Settings considering Gutenberg?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As with this video, the recommended sizes are dependent on your specific theme :)

    • @MakakaOrg
      @MakakaOrg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wpbeginner my theme (Jannah) uses separate own sizes. I dived in topic a little more.
      So WP default sizes is 150x150 (cropped to square) - small, 300x300 - medium, 1024x2014 - large. Plus 768x0 - medium_large.
      WP 5.3 & Gutenberg changes algorithm (with "srcset" attribute) of showing images & adds support for medium_large_2x - 1536 & large_2x - 2048. And originals are cropped by default to 2560.
      So this great topic for your new video.

    I'm currently using wp slush as i got a message from siteground saying i had used over 80% of data. Was surprised as i post a monthly blog about walking and upload maybe 5-10 pics a month. Ok i have been doing for 10 years so that adds up but will keep you posted as i painfully have to go into each picture and compress. Another subject i need help with is in wordpress there is the option to batch delete 'unattached' pictures but when i checked some pictures they said were unattached were actually used in posts. has anyone else come across this?

    Why do we have to compress the photos after we resize them?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Resizing the photo makes the width and height what your theme wants while compressing the image makes the image file size smaller which makes it load faster.

  • @BrickTamlandOfficial
    @BrickTamlandOfficial 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    why is the page size only 2.5MB when you uploaded 6 images that were like 5MB thats like 30MB does wordpress compress images on the site automatically? would it be better to turn that off and use webp instead to compress everything?

    • @wpbeginner
      @wpbeginner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      WordPress has a small level of image compression for safety as well as there are different image sizes that themes create if the images are not the correct size for the design. You do not need to disable it and most users shouldn't need to worry about it

  • @carlosalvarez7463

      The exact amount of compression would depend on your personal preference more than a best case. Normally the answer is as compressed as you feel you can make it

    I am the webmaster for a photo club. We highlight photos, and I have resized most of our posted photos. We normally have an annual photo contest where our pictures are printed out and displayed at a local college. They are judged and awards handed out. Now because of the present conditions I am proposing to do the contest online and give access to a judge to our the site. I want to display whatever the entrants send me. Large or other file sizes. My question is to limit the kind of access the judge would have? Any suggestions?
