Great video! Love the fact you took the time to add the parts list and their numbers, extremely helpful. Will definetly use this video when I'm doing my dod delete
I have an LS4 that has been sitting on the floor for the last 7 years. I have been searching for a nice condition Fiero GT to put it in. August of last year I finally bought my Fiero GT. This past weekend I finally started taking the LS4 apart. I have a lot to learn about these LS engines. I will be studying with the King does so I have the best LS4 for my application.
I just had my DOD tuned out after adding some bolt on mods… headers, CAI, hi flow cat and exhaust. Runs on 93 octane and has Plenty of power for me on the street
You deserve more subscribers... you’re doing amazing.. let me go ahead and subscribe this is proof that we need videos like this because here I am a year later learning from you .... avid bless you and thank you for your information and quality videos.
Excellent video. This covers the hardware perfectly. Just one question about the head bolts, I guess I didn’t catch why you were using the newer equal length bolts? Also it’s worth noting that a tune is a required part of a DOD delete. Anyone planning to do this should budget for that just if it were another needed part. For my own curiosity what are the specs on that custom grind cam?
Thanks! I was merely pointing out that there are typically two different options when choosing head bolts that is based on production year. If your motor has DOD than it uses equal length hardware as opposed to what was used on the 97-03 LS engines. Also very good point on the tune!
Great video. Can you comment on possible issues requiring a swap of the high pressure DOD oil pump to a standard one and plugging the relief valve in the pan? I've heard of possible oil pressure problems, when eliminating DOD.
@@LS4King Thanks, I'm looking forward to it! I've been slowly building my parts collection to eliminate DOD on my broken 08 GXP and want to get it right the first time!
Great video. Thought there was only 4 DOD lifters? Also the cam gear you can get single bolt or 3 bolt with the different tabs for the cam sensor to pick up.
I notice on the LS4 that the cam sensor is in a different spot than the other front cam sensors. Do you have to do anything special when installing a P59 on one of these engines. Thanks.
@@LS4King Yeah. I do too. Can't wait to watch your ECU video. My dad and I are planning to do an LS4 4T80E swap. We already have the oil pan built. Next step is mounting it up in the car.
Newbie here, what would happen if you just installed a valley cover and turned off/tuned out the dod system? From what I understand oil pressure pushes on the pins to allow the lifter to collapse during AFM mode? If you didnt have lifter issues before is it safe to assume you could continue for awhile and not have issues in the future? Im installing an LS2 intake so Im looking for a low profile cover anyway. Im looking for a budget solution at the moment. In the future I may go all the way but right now I do not want to rip this engine apart. Appreciate your help.
getting ready to do 2 DOD delete,s , quick question for Fiero Kit car ,can i use the cheapest standalone truck harness and truck computer , & run a drive by wire or switch to china made LS4 manual/cable operated TB ....THE DOD is gone
Man I know it’s late but I have 2 questions.1,do you have to change the chain tensioner 2,why the oil filter screen for the oil pressure sensor doesn’t fit inside the after market valley cover do I need it
I would only change the chain guide if it is worn or if you have the 2007+ spring loaded version. The spring loaded version is prone to failure. The LS2 style plastic guide is a much more reliable design. As for the oil screen on the pressure sensor it is not required.
What timing cover is that? I see em everywhere but the crank sensors on the right side and not the left. Will there be a problem with clearance or the belt if it’s on the right side of timing cover?
Nice video buddy, very informative, wish I saw it before doing dod delete on my car. I got motor rebuilt, 10 thou shaved off, new forced internals and all 16 lifters, lol. Stage 2 crow cam, I'm in Australia. I got NOS setup also but I'm yet to use due to a few nagging issues since built. If possible could you do a video about the EVAP plumbing with no PCV? Most kits in Australia come with it but I went without and just not confident it's right on mine. My outlet near oil fill is just capped and rear on other side goes to intake manifold behind throttle body. Is that correct? Any help would be appreciated and for now I'm gonna watch a few more of your videos. Cheers mate!
what would happen if you just go into the ECU and disable DOD in the settings and loaded that to the vehicle without doing a DOD delete kit, would it help the engine run for a longer period of time or would it not matter?
@@LS4King your video is very informative and I'm getting my DoD delete done on my gxp but 1 question did you replace the oil pump as well? Because I'm definitely doing mine
@@LS4King perfect 👌because I know the pick up tube o ring fails on these ls4s so I'm definitely not chancing it. and I will be purchasing that melling oil pump with the kit
I want to put a camm stage 2 in my 5.3l but don't want a loud exhaust at all and the only air intake I would consider is just the tube with the original box filter box what would you suggest I don't really want to run headers either and would I still make pretty good horsepower it's a 2007 Chevy suburban Gen 4 I believe
The only 6speed auto that would bolt up to the LS4 is from 2008-2009 Saturn vue xe awd with the 3.5 v6 LZ4. It uses the 6t70 trans and will bolt up, still need the starter in the pan though.

Put all 8 used ones on one side. That way only have to pull one head if you have a problem.

Is it possible that you would find a way to bolt a 6T75E to a LS4 and to an extent a 9T50 since those two have the same bolt pattern I believe

So what year ls4 engines require the ls2 timing chain cover? Mine is an 09.
There isn't a pcv provision on the stock cover so why would someone get a cover with it?
