Mom, Sally & I
After finishing the Highlands section of the Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail ... we headed back to Kingdom Come State Park to retrieve mom's car. On the way, I decided to stop in the visitor center - which turned out to be a small nature center as well which had all kinds of snakes, frogs, one ginormous lizard, and a big stuffed bear! After getting a couple stickers and a magnet for mom ... we went across the street to check out the Gazebo which had a great view overlooking Cumberland, KY. It and the visitor center was also decorated for the holidays with Christmas lights and holiday music playing. There was also a sign board with information about the park and a park map. After enjoying the view ... we made our way back to the car and further up the road where there was a little turnoff - that turned out to be the shortest access point to Log Rock! We decided to get Sally out ... and we all three climbed the stairs to cross under Log Rock ... this was such a cool rock formation. I didn't go across it - Sally started to but quickly abandoned her attempt. We then saw a short side trail, which came out looking at Cumberland, KY and you could see some of the mining operation above the town.
After enjoying the view ... it was time to go and head home - well after we got mom's car.
Things to note ... this park is really nice. They have a small campground, a lake where you can apparently fish, a mini-golf course and other amenities. I saw a couple of other trails I'd love to see along with some of the viewpoints on the north end of the park. The Little Shepherd section of the Pine Mountain State Scenic Trail ends here and there is a vaulted toilet in the parking area that was relatively clean. We really enjoyed Log Rock and the views looking at Cumberland, KY.
