Two mom to be here! We’ve heard before that it’s important to have set names, whatever they may be, and make sure that friends, family, and school understand who is who when the child is asking for mama.

I grew up with two moms and I absolutely love this debate hahaha. My moms did use the same name when we were really little and it did get confusing when my siblings and I would chat about our moms. It apparently didn’t last long and we started differentiating with mommy and mama 👀

Speaking from experience, My wife and I go by mommy and mama. Our son started calling my wife by her actually name because he would hear me say her name when I would call out for her. That made her kind of upset so I started implementing mommy when I would call her. Like “ mommy can you change Kai’s diaper, or hey mommy did you take the dogs out etc”
So now he knows that I am mama and that my wife is mommy. Seems like kids definitely go based off what they hear.

I think that two different names are way more practical so that you and friends/ family/ kindergarten teachers immediately know who they are asking for. Also I am from Germany and we call our moms Mama, so I obviously find it a very fitting name, but here it's pronounced with more of an a sound instead of that mix of o and a that you used and the first a is quite short.
I would consider the names mama and mom, because I feel like mommy would be the least likely name to age well. When they want to be cool eventually, mom will surely be fine and intuitively, I would think that mama is still better than mommy, but that might just be my impression.

I like Mom/Mommy and Mama! You have to consider when they're talking to other people/each other, how they'll refer to one of you specifically!! Obviously it's up to you, but I agree with Allie (I think? The pregnant one anyway! Sorry I'm more or less new and I just realized I don't actually know who's who...). But I agree, you can't both be mommy! 😂

My wife and I went through the whole “what will the baby call us” and I wanted to be mama sooooo badly and my wife wanted to be mum. Our son is starting to babble… he says mum or ma to me and dada to my wife lol long story short, don’t get too hung up on the name of who is called what. Your children will call you want they want :)

I think there will be times when your child will want to call to you, under those circumstances you will need to distinguish who the child is trying to communicate with. Thus I think Mama and Mummy (Mum) will naturally come about.

  • @KaylaButler
    @KaylaButler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I wouldn’t worry about the “mama” nickname in the states. It’s kind of a cultural thing & it depends on the region. Also in cultures here and abroad people use “mami” (mommy is pronounced similarly) as a term of endearment as well. There is no parent nickname someone isn’t calling their friends somewhere. 🤷🏻‍♀️ might as well choose what fits right for you

  • @DanacaLove

I know the twins are already here but i’m in your back catalog and wanted to chime in on this! I’m part Mexican and when I don’t call my mom “Mom”, I call her “Má” or “Amá” and I think it rolls off the tongue! So when the twins get older you could turn Mummy into Mum and Mama into Ma or Ama. :)

I like mommy and mama. I’m 24 and I call my real my mama, and my mother in law and my step mom, mom. When my wife and I have our kids we will have them call us mommy and mama. And as they grow older, then they will be allowed to call us whatever they feel is easiest. But it’s important to have distinguished names for one another for your babies to know, because of reasons for school, friends, family, etc.. it prevents confusion and frustration

There are many nicknames for mothers, mum, ma, mom, momma, mommy, and even others. My children called me mommy and momma, later mom in the teens. To my grands I am both nana and grandma, my mother was GG or Gigi for great grandmother. I think one of you should be momma and the other one mommy. That way both can be mom, and their friends won’t be confused.

As babies, they will say mama fist and probably call you both mom or mama. When it comes to them calling to one of you and being specific or talking to someone else about one of you and being specific about which one I think that best option is probably going to be mama "A" Mama "S". Cuz when they're able to talk and when they have to call to one of you when they get a little bit older it's probably going to be a lot easier to say like Mama A or Mama S. But I think (for now) it will be easier to call one mommy and the other mama. And I'm sure when they get to a talking age and can understand a little bit more they'll probably let you know what they want to call you each. Congratulations you both and I'm so happy for you guys.

"Mama" is only kind of a thing as a buddy/friend thing, I associate it mostly with the gay community lol - similar to "Yes, queen!" "Yes, mama!" It's a pretty small thing, I don't think that's the main association people have with it hahhaa

My Mom was Mama to me all my life. I’m Ma to my kids. Not sure how I feel about that but they’re 45 and 46 now so I guess I’ll keep answering to it!😁🥰

    We brought up my grandson
The plan was that he called my partner Grandma and me Mamgu (one of the Welsh words for grandmother)
As it turned out he called her Momar and me Gege, the closest he could get. He's 10 now but he's stuck with our nicknames so now everyone else, including staff at school, calls us Gege and Mamor.
I think they'll work it out for themselves. Dada comes first developmentally, so don't worry about that.
I hate the idea of other mommy. It sounds like one of you is the real mother and one is not! They will need individual names so when they're talking to other people they will know who they're referring to

I call my mom mama and I’m a teenager and I know a few other people who also do it so I don’t think that’s weird. Also I’m imagining your kids when they have friends trying to tell a story with both of you it in then having to use your names or something so their friends would know who is who. Also they might call you mom if it’s just you there but I feel like the different names are still useful for when you’re both there.

I agree with Sam, s/b Mommy and Momma.
