    What is the most frustrating part about the encounter is even if you have the answers in your deck, if you don't draw them by the arbitrary T4 when Galactus is dropped after a wave/electro, it's usually game over. Ok, so I put additional tech cards, SPECIFICALLY just for this match up and it weakens the deck/archetype I'm playing overall (more or less if isn't a control deck). And even then, there is a chance, which does happen when I don't draw the tech card or don't guess the correct lane that said tech card needs to impact.
    This crap gives me both that Zabu/Absorbing-Man/Spider-Man vibes and reminds of the KaiSa meta from LoR (minus the insane WR of that archetype) which was incredibly oppressive because of how binary the encounters were and how feels like you/your opponent are playing two totally different games; if you don't have the answer by T(3-4), it's usually a concede/loss.
    It really is like T.V.A. but the odds are overwhelmingly in Galactus' favor.

    I deleted the game yesterday because of my MMR bubble. I face 82% of matches yesterday against Galactus (38 games yesterday) Predictable game pattern but if I don't have a counter I lose. What makes it worse is because people spend Tokens real money I know the Devs won't change it or if they do not in a timely manner.

    I've been hesitant to pick up Galactus despite him initially being the first big bad I wanted because I see him a lot and his play pattern is super telegraphed so cube gains are pretty minimal and slow. In addition to the counters you mentioned Leech in the lane you expect him to be in is rough too because it means you can just load up on power at that location with impunity because Knull is 0, Death costs 9, and Shang chi does nothing. They basically have to immediately spiderman to have any chance.

    I agree that Galactus isnt the most frustrating card in the history of Marvel Snap, but there are 3 reasons it annoys me...
    1. It has become a lazy rote play-style that has taken the place of the lazy wrote play-style of Shuri. It rarely ever feels like a Galactus player is being clever, they are just following a simple step-by-step guide to the same result every time.
    2. I don’t love that every single time I construct a deck I have to consider which Galactus counters I will include.
    3. Maybe its just me, but despite the aforementioned lazy rote play-style, it seems Galactus players are inordinately cocky and love to spam emotes, especially when you retreat. "Bravo, buddy, you beat me by playing the same 5 cards in a row I've seen played 8000 times already. Look at you, you master strategist!"

      Makes sense though. Snap has almost ALWAYS had a simple 4-5 card deck in the meta. It was Destroyer/Spectrum. Shuri/Red Skull. Leader/Any deck with Leech. Thanos/Lockjaw. Now Galactus/Nimrod or Knull. For the most part, unless you don't care about climbing ranks or Are in Infinite playing the meta or the meta counter is all you get to do effectively. Another problem with Galactus is the opportunity cost if he doesn’t exist. Say your opponent plays a wave with empty lanes. If you have prio and play a counter for galactus, and then they play another card, you’re at a huge loss because you played a tech card and not a big 6 cost or something similar.

  • @dr34mv3iL
    @dr34mv3iL ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel like the problem is that Galactus decks can play alternatives like Destroyer so that if their opponent has the counter then they just pivot to their backup game plan, which is sort of fine because then at least you get to play the 3-lane game, but when those alternative lines become strong enough it warps the game around the snap mechanic because they know which of their two game plans they’re going for and you don’t. You could argue that that’s true of every deck, but the difference is the way the Galactus deck forces specific lines of play. It forces you to counter it if you want to play the game, and then it also has alternative lines that beat the forced counter. I mostly just concede Galactus games without worrying about it too much, but it does get annoying when it becomes a popular enough deck.

  • @dupthedodger
    @dupthedodger ปีที่แล้ว

    Great timing was looking to me more informed about the Big Guy as being Spider-Man on turn 5 was making me feel awful. I JUST successfully guessed a Galactus lane, set up Onslaught thanks to their Wave then set up Super Skrull and Wasp, then they brought Doctor Doom out with their Doc Oc. They still played Knull on top of that and my Skrull doubled to 60 something. Super Skrull is a tricky counter but a satisfying one!

    One potential nudge would be to have Galactus run the check and destroy at the end of the turn, not immediately on reveal (i.e. On Reveal: Destroy all other locations if you have no other cards at this location at the end of this turn). That would allow some of the counters to work regardless of priority.

    • @DHREAVER

      How about (to save on word count) just add, “always reveals last” at the end.

    • @trisoliniinthehouse
      @trisoliniinthehouse ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Except part of the challenge of a Galactus deck is trying to get priority going into turn 4 or 5 so that you can negate the counters. To make it reveal at the end of the turn would feel a bit too punishing for all the build up play. Plus the cards played pre turn 4 tend to be low power anyway (wolverine 2, electro 2 etc) so you're less likely to have priority on average

    • @Sormor8021
      @Sormor8021 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have given up playing around Galactus and just assume its a one-cube tax I occasionally have to pay. It feels like playing against Shuri pre-nerf, once their game plan is in motion, you are dead in the water without a comeback mechanic.
    There are counters, but assuming they play their yondu, wolverine, and wave in one lane, you're still 50/50 on which lane galactus will be played in. Even if the galactus doesn't go off they have other possible threats like a Destroyer/Nimrod combo that you have to play from behind on since you dedicated resources for the galactus counter.

  • @Doctor-Shoebill
    @Doctor-Shoebill ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the last Galactus nerf took care of the real problems the card had. Now it's both playable and easily countered. It's pretty obvious when someone is likely playing Galactus so you can play a counter or setup to beat it on the lane you think it'll get played into. Hell, a lot of Galactus players beat themselves by playing Doctor Octopus. He's a big bad that's really not that bad, imo.

      He literally explained why it's bad,if you don't draw a counter you lose. In certain MMR brackets you play it very frequently. My case 82% of my matches. • @Doctor-Shoebill
      @Doctor-Shoebill ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, don't know what to tell you, my guy. Maybe reevaluate what you're playing or how you're playing. I don't lose to Galactus all that often, regardless of what deck I'm playing. It's an easy read and you should know before turn four 1) If they're playing Galactus 2) have a fairly good idea if not know for sure where they're playing it 3) If you can counter or beat them. Galactus doesn't lend itself to creativity. They're just trying to box you in. You want to see less Galactus? Don't reward them for playing it. Bounce if you can't take their cubes and let them have that one. You will make it up on the next game and they'll get tired of not climbing. Trust me, Galactus players thrive on people making bad decisions.

    • @pyrosdestiny
      @pyrosdestiny ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Doctor-Shoebill a Galactus deck has never got more than a cube from me. I don't think the card is oppressive at all. Having a polarising card so prevalent is not good for the long term health of the game. Aero,Leech and lockjaw are proof that the Devs agree. It's also about play experience and fun factor. If any card has such a negative effect to a large portion of the player base it isn't good for the game period.

    I often asked the same question about Shuri before her nerf: Should she even exist in the game the way she is? Now after her nerf, she feels way more fair and more like Wong; powerful if left unchecked.
    I think the same thing with Galactus only for different reasons, and it makes the question more complicated. Is Galactus strong? According to analytics, no. But is Galactus frustrating? Yes. If they nerfed Galactus he'd be damn near unplayable, but for a card that makes it so that everything before in the match didn't matter, maybe that's ok?
    I'm rambling - but it's extremely complicated to me. I have made infinite the last two seasons after starting the game during Zabu season. I am aware that Galactus is exremely counterable in a lot of ways. But the card just provides such an eyeroll-inducing mechanic that I wouldn't be upset if it got nuked from the game. It's an extremely interesting conversation that I still don't have a firm opinion on.

    Galactus is the only deck I hate playing against, and it was a problem for me since December. This is just because my favorite deck is Hela.
    With Hela, I find it bad to play counter cards because besides the risk of not drawing them, I also have to deal with the risk of discarding them, and against every other deck than Galactus my deck gets much worse. A discarded goblin or goose won't do much when resummoned by Hela.
    Galactus also reduces the impact of Hela, since I got only a single lane to summon bombs in, and that lane gets locked out before I have the time to discard enough cards or even play Hela. My severe dislike for Galactus comes from the fact that the matchup feels unwinnable, and I am simply a fool to continue playing the match after Galactus was played. The only "counter-play" I have is to minimize the cube loses, and only give them 2.
    This completely unwinnable situation never happens for me against any of the other decks since I started playing the game, be it DoomWave, DeathWave, Dino, Hawk, Control, Sera, Patriot, Mr. Negative, Shuri or anything else.
    However, your advice is appreciated, you already motivated me during one of your streams to try something like Goose or Storm, since Hela's summons can still impact these lanes. I will keep trying! The suggestion for Magneto as a counter is brilliant, especially since he fits well the role of a "bomb" against other matchups.

If every single card that ruins our experience is blasted with the "nerf it" argument my fear is that the game may inevitably morph into something none of us will like (look what happened to Leech). I say this not only as someone who doesn't have Galactus, but possibly the least winning player of Snap. Some player's are simply good strategists, it's part of the game.

    I do not like Galactus I think he is annoying, they often only just get one cube so I am not saying he is too overpowered. The issue for me is the game is about area control/area majority and he breaks that. He turns the game into you only needing to win the one and only location which changes the feeling of the game. Also, what's with Galactus players snapping only after they resolve Galactus...like c'mon we both know how this is going to end, enjoy your one cube you should have snapped earlier.

    • @peterkefalos7430
      @peterkefalos7430 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sandman, Patriot, Sera Control, Death Wave just to name a few also have pretty straight forward paths they follow nearly every game. The game itself doesn’t really have much variance in how your game plan plays out with only 12 card decks so I don’t get the script argument. Also just out of curiosity have you ever played galactus? If so you know how often Galactus players are actually retreating until they get paired with someone who didn’t draw or didn’t have the counter. That’s not even accounting for all the locations that screw the whole decks game plan over.

What a surprise right? Not really…But now that the Regular people like us who have been playing for 3 months or more are getting him and that’s why it’s more common cause the ACTUAL Player base is Getting Access to the card. It’s NOT EXCLUSIVE TO THE WHALES AND TH-camRS ANYMORE. They had a good 4-5 months head start on everyone else. THATS THE REASON WHY GALACTUS IS MORE POPULAR RIGHT NOW. Meh... Galactus doesn't even climb, for real. Aside from being countered by so many cards, he's a 6-2. If your Galactus gets blocked, you just played 2 power on Turn 5. I had him when I still played the game, and he gets shut down, even on Turn 6, about 75% of the time. Then 14% of the time you'll only win/lose 1 cube. That last 1% consists of people who are just angry, and try to stay in anyway.
    There is no way to NOT telegraph Galactus. Even if you play the Turn 6 Galactus with Nimrod/Destroyer most players will play around a possible Galactus.
