Don't worry, this is post-code. No animals were harmed. When Mongo punches the horse, you see the rider pull the right rein as a signal to the horse to swing its head that way and fall left. How you train that, no idea, but you see the signal.
Hitler hosted the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and wanted it to be a glorious triumph for Aryans, Jesse Owens put quite a damper on that with his 4 Gold Medals 😁
Wrong. His schedule did not permit him to stay, but he made it a point to salute Owens on his way out of the stadium. Upon returning to America Owens was snubbed by the president, prompting him to say that he was treated better in Germany than back in the USA.
The fart scene was the first time flatulence appeared onscreen. So, thank Mel Brooks for opening the door to potty humor. As for the horses, they were stunt horses trained to fall without hurting themselves.
@@JayBondReacts Stunt horses were a staple of the westerns of the golden age of Hollywood, hence their inclusion in Blazing Saddles. They can usually be trained to perform as well as dogs.
@Gerald H There was actually a film about him that was made in 1979, starring British comedic actor, Leonard Rossiter (known best for his roles in Rising Damp & The fall and rise of Reginald Perrin TV shows). The ironic thing is that Le Petomane's real name was Pujol, which kinda sounds rectal related as well. Allegedly he didn't actually fart as such as it was said that what he did was inhale air in through his rectum due to having full control of his rectal muscles, and would then exhale the same air rather than actual gas created in his body naturally.
After 10 uploads getting blocked, I finally got this up! I was forced to cut some funny moments even though I've seen other channels with them. TH-cam is weird. Audio will be back to normal next week. 🙂

Dont worry, mel brooks had the same problem with this on tv. He actually filmed additional scenes just to fill in the run time because he had to cut so much for tv.... Like when the sheriff gives mondo the candy gram bomb... in the tv version he uses the bomb, drowns him in water, has some other explosion (its been awhile, but think somethong else too)
1. Mel Brooks played the Governor and the Indian Chief and one of the thug roundup. 2. Mel Brooks doesn't just break the 4th wall he shatters, steps on and grinds it into the ground. 3. The preacher plays in Young Frankenstein as an old man that gets racked by Dr. Frankenstein. Madeline Kahn also had a smallish role in it. 4. Yes, Bart and Jim were smoking wacky tobacky. 5. The line, "You know morons" was ad lib by Wilder. Little's reaction was real. 6. The guy that was supposed to play Jim showed up the first day drunk so he was let go. Wilder agreed to do this movie for Mel Brooks only if Mel would direct Young Frankenstein for him. 7. Richard Pryor was supposed to play Bart but he was going through his addictions at the time and they thought it wouldn't be a good idea. However, he did some of the writing. 8. Jim still has his popcorn from the theater. Movie suggestion "Young Frankenstein" with Gene Wilder
The phrase 'Wide wide world of sports" is from ABC network's program "ABC's Wide World of Sports" which features highlights from noteworthy sporting events such as the Olympics and other sports (not sure they still do this segment as it was popular in the 70's and 80's. Some of the jokes in "Blazing Saddles" you may not get unless you have seen western films and tv shows over the decades. Madeleine Kahn is doing a parody of German actress and singer Marlene Dietrich.
@@JayBondReacts The Randolf Scott reference in the film when Bart says "You'd do it for Randolf Scott" is because Randolf was known for always playing the good guy in westerns.
You gotta love this film. When Lamarr is humping the statue, he is literally trying to screw Justice. I love Mel Brooks' film for doing things like this.
"It's twue, it's twue!" The censors made it twue because they made Brooks cut out a line. Bart's deleted response was "I hate to disappoint you, but you're sucking on my arm."
@@RichardX1 I didn't know that! I do know that he wrote Mongo's line about just being a pawn in the game of life. I think I read where he was most proud of writing Mongo's stuff.
Hedy Lamar was a BEAITIFUL German/Jewish immigrant movie star in the 40s who was also a genius. I think she helped to develop Wifi. She sued Mel Brooks for the use of her name (it’s actually spelled Hedley in this movie).
Hedy Lamar is one of the most fascinating people of Hollywood. During WWII she developed anti-jamming technology for US torpedoes. It wasn't implemented during the war, but it's the basis of WiFi, Bluetooth and most of the rest of our wireless tech today.
Hedy Lamar was suing a lot of people at the time who used her name for publicity. Mel Brooks was just pointing that out in his film by making Hedley and also got sued. But the lawsuit went nowhere.
The answer to your question about how we got to where we are today with racism it's that people found it's more lucrative to push victimization than coexistence. The co-writer of this screenplay was Richard Pryor, who was supposed to play the sheriff but the studio fought it, was one of the many comedians and leaders who tried to remove the power of racist language, and it worked for awhile. People would at the idiots with distaste and ridicule, but then the preaching to be offended by everything took over and we are worse off now than a few years after this movie was released. Society had drained the power from racists then political leaders plugged it in and charged it back up.
This is a whole load of BS. 1974 was 48 years ago, we still have racist today like we did back then because it was less than 50 years ago haha. Cancel culture was invented by the right because they're snowflakes and didn't like being called on their BS.
@@ckobo84 No, it has been ramped up for a couple of decades and is what fed todays cancel culture. For a little while nearly all racist terms were depowered. It makes people feel like an idiot to say the harshest insult they can think of, and have the reaction be a shoulder shrug and indifference from their victim. Now we have reached a point where they look for micro-aggressions and need a safe room to recover in. They gave the power back to the bullies and think they accomplished something.
Very likely a generational thing. I have no idea who Laurel and Hardy are. Warner Bros also kept blocking that specific scene with me because it's roughly an 8 second joke so it had to be cut. I assume other reactors also run into that same problem.
@@JayBondReacts they’re on TH-cam. Very funny comedy team from the 30s. They even made a movie about them a couple years ago, with John C Reilly. FYI they’re before my time too.
Now that I'm interested in! Love John C Reilly. I like kinda understood the joke as I heard the names before but I'm shocked I haven't seen them before. Just asked my buddy who is over and he knows them so it's probably just a me thing. 😂
Mongo was played by ex-football player Alex Karras. He would go on to play the evil sheriff in Porky's (add it to your list if you haven't seen it). He also played the dad in the 80s sitcom Webster.
You should absolutely do _Young Frankenstein._ They actually came up the idea while filming this and Gene Wilder agreed to do it with the caviate that Mel Brooks wouldn't appear because Brooks is in all of his movies and Wilder felt it ruined the illusion.
He does appear though in young Frankenstein. He's just better hidden and has almost no lines. I don't want to give away the movie. But he has a wife and daughter. He changes his voice and has on a lot of make-up. But he is not credited for it.
One interesting tidbit about the campfire scene was that it was the first time there had ever been a fart in a movie. While it's overdone now, back then this scene was shocking and unique.
I've seen the comments mentioning that you had to edit out a few parts. You still got quite a bit of good stuff in there though. One of the edited parts was the part where Bart is riding towards Rock Ridge as the new sheriff. Along the way, the man he greets is Count Basie, a popular jazz musician/bandleader from back in the day. Here he's playing a portion of "April in Paris" with his orchestra.
That's actually something that went over my head. I'm unfamiliar and knew it must have had significance but just didn't get it. One of those generational things I suppose.
As you say in the reaction, what Mel did with this film is turn things on it's head with regards to race. While it initially looks like a racist movie (and as you said with Mongo, they are out to offend everyone), once you get further in you realise that what he was doing is showing how bigoted some people can be (not just against race either). Mel used every single thing he could from black people, Chinese, Jewish, mentally disabled, gay & all points in between, to show how shitty some people can be, and in this film it's easy to see that the only bad guys were the white ones. (if you discount the bit with recruiting). I don't know a single person offended by this film as they all get what Mel was trying to achieve. Sadly, due to how things are now he would never be able to make a film like this now. It's sad that this kind of bigotry still exists, but it is also sad that even well meant humour like this is deemed offensive as well.
Very well said. Thankfully everyone is on the joke. Everyone is getting cancelled these days for a Netflix standup show and it's a shame. There are certainly things that I find offensive but when it comes to comedy sometimes crossing the line is what makes some jokes hit harder like "Oh my god, I can't believe he just said that" with your reaction still chuckling. It's a super fine line though because not everyone has the same intentions. A balancing act when done well, like this, stands the test of time.
Not one of my friends, not one of my minority friends or any group, is offended. They understand Satire! They understand who is being mocked ruthlessly. However, those that are in the hate groups are continually blaming OTHERS screaming that this movie can't be made today. It's not us, it's them. They are being indicted as the bigots and racist still projecting that onto others and blaming them about things like PC, which just is supposed to mean, "don't be a dic." But even that phrase has been hijacked by those that still have an insidious need to hate and ridicule. We want this movie classic aired in prime time UNEDITED. Especially in the south. "Where the white woman at" will send them into an outrage.
@@JayBondReacts The thing Mel Brooks understood is that the best way to stop racism is to make racists look stupid and foolish. Nobody wants to be ridiculed.
The good is Jay caught the 1 flavor joke, the bad is he edited the middle of the "Laurel and Hardy" handshake joke. Sad that this comedy duo is all but forgotten now. The good news is Abbot and Costello are seeing a resurgence due to Who's on First reactions.
Hey, I wanted to keep that joke, Warner Bros blocked that specific section. I edited a full 6 minutes out of my initial upload and I'm not happy about it. 😢
Another similar Abbot and Costello style joke I had to cut down was the "meeting adjourned" joke. Basically any joke that was over 5 seconds had to be scrapped or edited in a crafty way.
It's not a particularly funny line, but my favorite line in this movie is "Watch that 'boy' shit, redneck...you're talking to the sheriff of Rock Ridge." It's just so goddamned satisfying.
Oh, by the way Harvey Korman who plays Hedley Lamarr, is also in one of the all time greatest comedy sketches, the infamous Dentist Sketch with Tim Conway from the Carrol Burnett show. It's right up there with Abbott and Costello's, Who's on First bit or the hilarious I Love Lucy bits like, Lucy and the Chocolate Factory, Vitameatavegamin or the Grape Stomping Fight scene!
I'll have to look him up. He's great. Love the way he emotes and his snappy delivery. Seems definitely suitable for Abbott and Costello type stuff which we caught a glimpse of in this with the "meeting adjourned" bit. 😂
@@JayBondReacts All of the skits/sketches would make for some great short reactions, regardless I highly recommend watching any and all of those that you haven't seen already,
My favorite Mel Brooks film is his 1968 The Producers with Gene Wilder and the great Zero Mostel. Imagine a musical number named Springtime for Hitler.
I plan to do both! Thank you! I saw a bunch of people reacting to History of the World Pt. 1, and kinda ignored it cause I figured there were actually multiple parts. 😂
One of the things I enjoy about this film is when people get all upset about the jokes, be it the racial ones or others. They're like "How was he allowed to make this movie?" Check the writing credits ;) The great Richard Pryor (RIP) wrote a good portion of it with Mel.
Now that you understand the "Black Sheriff" line in Men in Tights, you now need to watch History of the World Part One to understand the 'It's good to be the King" line. Madeline Khan was in many Mel Brooks films; including Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, and History of the World Part One.
Madelaine was a regular in Mel's movies. Off hand I think she did about 4 films with him. 6 years ago, I went to a screening of BLAZING SADDLES. Mel did a live Q&A afterwards and at one point when talking about the cast, went, "I just wanted to say...Madelaine Kahn." and let the audience give her a round of applause.
@@JayBondReacts I will say the man was a dynamo. He was 89 at the time and for 50 minutes he never sat down. Just walking all over the stage, gesturing and telling stories. Now, the following year he did a tour of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Not sure he's up to that sort of thing now as he's 96.
Ah. Yeah, there are definitely a few jokes that are products of their time that just won't hit with "younger" audiences much. Younger sounds hilarious, I'm almost 40. Haha

For the theme song, they wanted someone who sounded like Frankie Laine, a famous vocalist who had sung the theme songs of several classic Westerns in film and television. When they put out the audition call, they were stunned when Frankie Laine himself showed up. They hired him on the spot, and he gave the recording 110%. Afterwards they realized nobody had told Laine that the movie was to be a parody, and they were so worried that he would be insulted.
Mel Brooks is such a great comedian. He also plays three roles in this film. He’s the Governor, Indian Chief and an aviator standing in line to work on Lamar’s villain team. The actor that plays Lyle (Taggerts second in command) was having trouble using the “N” word around Clevon Little. Clevon took him aside and said “It’s not your words, you’re just reading a script” which made him feel better about the part. The scene where Mongo hits the horse the horse is trained that when it’s reign is pulled it turns it’s head that way and drops to the ground. The song that Lily Von Shtupp sings on stage Mel Brooks said was the dirtiest song he’s ever written. The fart scene was supposedly the first time it was done in a film. Mel Brooks sat in an editing room with an editor recording fart sounds and bringing anyone that happened to walk by the room inside to record their “fart” sounds.
No problem. With Mel Brooks you never know what you’ll get. He has an animated film coming out called “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” which is supposed to be a remake of “Blazing Saddles”. He voiced a character called Shogun. It should be interesting the trailer looks funny.
Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety" is a double treat.... it's an amazing movie on its own but, if you're a fan of the classic Alfred Hitchcock films, Mel Brooks' pays homage to most of them throughout...... highly recommended for a review or just for fun.
Oh right on! Would love see that one. I haven't seen all of Hitchcock's films but being a big horror fan I see a lot of references in other movies and watch videos breaking down some of the cinematography.
Gene Wilder is also in The Producers (1967}. Other Mel Brooks movies with Madeline Kahn, are Young Frankenstein (1974), History of the World part 1(1981), and High Anxiety (1977)
If you like this, Mel Brooks’ The Producers is along the same lines. The 1968 version starring Gene Wilder is excellent but in terms of laugh out loud politically incorrect jokes, the 2005 version is wild.
@@JayBondReacts It's a great movie, but the guy from Princess Bride is not Igor. Igor is played by Marty Feldman who died in 1982 (years before Princess Bride was made).

I'm glad you get this. I HATE when people say "You can't make this movie today". WTF is that supposed to mean? Of course you can. Of course you SHOULD!
The reason that they reacted like that is, the cowboy spent a lot of time away from the ranch and towns, so rarely saw a woman. Let alone a woman dressed like that. They get excited and carried away especially when they have been consuming alcohol.
In Victorian times, a woman's bare ankle was scandalous. Even using certain words were taboo - like "leg" (they said "limb") or "breast" (substitute "limb"). There is a story - maybe not true - that one woman knitted little coverings for the legs on her piano. On the other hand, prostitution flourished.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Regarding the seduction scene, an incomplete joke: Brooks lays it out: “She blows out the candles, and she says in her German accent, ‘Is it true what they say about you people?’ And Cleavon says, ‘I hate to disillusion you, ma’am, but you’re sucking on my arm.'” (I think the sounds came across as too pornographic so Brooks cut the joke out, see clip below) Mel Brooks Details The Secrets Of "Blazing Saddles" | CONAN on TBS th-cam.com/video/987L5nDBID4/w-d-xo.html The other thing about Jesse Owens is that he helped question the Nazi racial propaganda by winning 4 medals in the Nazi Olympics in 36' (and Mel Brooks inserts anti-Nazi jokes in his movies). The reference had two purposes (quick runner/Black pride and anti-Nazi) in my opinion. I never noticed that all the signs in the fake town say Johnson, thanks for pointing that out. Tarzan and Cheeta (chimp) reference in the cafeteria fight. I'm not a fan of his later stuff (Spaceballs, Tights, etc.), the racial humor is not as inverted or layered nor does it challenge the stereotype-it just reinforces attitudes unlike in Blazing Saddles. I did not enjoy them at the time and not a big fan now, the humor just is too goofy for me. Fun fact: In Spaceballs one of the troops in the desert goes onto to star in a famous sci-fi franchise and create a semi-famous character there. The Producers is interesting, I loved History of the World Part I and Young Frankenstein. My favorite line: That's tough but the completely random, nonsensical, arbitrary, hateful, bigoted "I had you people tried to get a little track laid not to jump around like a bunch of Kansas City &^%%$#!" makes me laugh. And he references the Wide World of Sports, which I hated. There are a lot of good lines and I enjoy many of Mr. Taggert's lines because how he spoke is how many people spoke then.
I can't speak on everything here, but thanks for the comment! Thanks for the additional info on Jesse Owens too. I plan to watch History of the World, Young Frankenstein, and The Producers however I feel some stuff will be lost on me with The Producers for sure just because of the age and lack of knowledge I'll have going in. I agree about the layered humor but thankfully I did enjoy the goofy stuff of Tights and Spaceballs. Comedy has to be the most polarizing genre in general so it's all good.
Thanks and no worries! I'm learning new things about the film, putting jokes together, and learning things I had no idea about (the Laurel and Hardy joke, the HoJo joke, Jesse Owens, etc after watching Blazing Saddles for decades. Just watch enjoy. And if you miss something you can always re-watch it-that's what I do. Builds character and appreciation. We are all learning. Oh, and I love horror. Wait till after you watch Rambo 3, before you jump into Hot Shots: Part Deux. In a previous reaction you mentioned having to watch First Blood and 2, but the 3rd is equally important for the optimal viewing experience. As for other Mel Brooks films to react to, Young Frankenstein is obviously his Frankenstein parody and an absolute masterpiece, which was written by Gene Wilder, who also stars in the movies, it also happens to be the only one of Mels films that he isn't in. It was actually a stipulation of Gene's, that Mel not be in the movie. The Producers is another all time classic as is History of the World Part 1.
Thanks for the heads up. Someone else mentioned I need to see Rambo 3 first as well, so I'll do that shortly then Hot Shots. Excited for those other Mel Brooks movies too!
I'm glad you caught the "They said you was hung" joke.I'm almost certain Richard Pryor wrote that. He helped with the script. And probably "excuse me while i whip this out" joke.
Hahaha That hung one was one of the best. This is definitely a movie I already plan to watch again down the road and introduce friends to. I have a couple friends that think even early 80s movies are too old for their taste. 😂
I heard Pryor wrote roughly half the script. If you ever heard his nightclub routine, he peppered his lines the "n" word and I think this movie's use of it so many times is due to his writing.
OK you went back to 1974 for laughs and an interesting story. In the 1970's, in all the movies and on all the TV shows, as soon as someone was racist, you knew they were the bad guy and they were going to get taken down. So no one was offended at this movie's opening: we knew they were opening with the bad guys.
I'm open to that! It may drive people nuts if I don't recognize the actors but that's part of the fun of these videos. I'm getting to see people's favorites and start my appreciation now. 😂
Jesse Owens embarrassed Hitler at the 1936 olympics by winning a bunch of events. Some sprints and the long jump, I believe. 4 gold medals. So much for the master race!
Thank you for recognizing that this makes fun of racism by showing how stupid it was. This is such an eminently quotable movie. One of my favorites is "Where the white women at?" You should definitely watch Young Frankenstein.
Back in high school band in the 80s, we played a game in a town where a known kkk member had unsuccessfully run for mayor. When we got to the school, one of the black guys in the band stepped off the bus and yelled "Hey! Where the white women at?!" Everybody cracked up including the band director.

I think race relations are alot worse today...back then we all got along and were able to make fun of each other's differences without getting so easily offended!

Yeah, the horses in this movie are incredibly well trained to be able to perform (and more importantly, not injure themselves) those falls. Its crazy.
The fart scene was the first time flatulence appeared onscreen. So, thank Mel Brooks for opening the door to potty humor. As for the horses, they were stunt horses trained to fall without hurting themselves.
Damn you Mel Brooks! 😂 I'm happy to learn they can fall without hurting themselves. A sigh of relief. Haha
Horses were trained to do tricks like fall on cue. They are Hollywood horses.
You beat me to it. Lol

If you watch the rider, he pulls one of the reigns right when the punch "connects", that's the cue to the horse to fall down.

The phrase 'Wide wide world of sports" is from ABC network's program "ABC's Wide World of Sports" which features highlights from noteworthy sporting events such as the Olympics and other sports (not sure they still do this segment as it was popular in the 70's and 80's. Hedy Lamar was a BEAITIFUL German/Jewish immigrant movie star in the 40s who was also a genius. I think she helped to develop Wifi. She sued Mel Brooks for the use of her name (it’s actually spelled Hedley in this movie).
Haha What?! That's wild.
The surreal aspect of Blazing Saddles is what catapults it into greatness.
Young Frankenstein is a must. Favorite Brooks comedy.

Melvin Kaminsky, better known as Mel Brooks, just had a birthday. He turned 96 on June 28. Happy Birthday, Mel.
Happy belated, Mr. Brooks!
Very well said.
This is a whole load of BS. 1974 was 48 years ago, we still have racist today like we did back then because it was less than 50 years ago haha. Cancel culture was invented by the right because they're snowflakes and didn't like being called on their BS.
This is straight up Russian Bot behavior. This is all lies. You're incredibly dumb if you believe this or just a agent provocateur.
They weaponized it for political gain. Once they stole the election it died way down.
It’s amazing how everybody misses the Laurel and Hardy joke
Very likely a generational thing. I have no idea who Laurel and Hardy are. Warner Bros also kept blocking that specific scene with me because it's roughly an 8 second joke so it had to be cut. I assume other reactors also run into that same problem.
@@JayBondReacts they’re on TH-cam. Very funny comedy team from the 30s. They even made a movie about them a couple years ago, with John C Reilly. FYI they’re before my time too.

Mongo was played by ex-football player Alex Karras. He would go on to play the evil sheriff in Porky's (add it to your list if you haven't seen it). He also played the dad in the 80s sitcom Webster.
Oh yeah, Porky's is one I need to see. I only know the one hole scene from that. I would bet there's some controversial stuff in that one. 😂

Word up. So I have Mel Brooks to thank for those. 😂
The horses are trained to fall safely
But we don't want the Irish!
@@JayBondReacts The thing Mel

The best way I’ve heard it said is that this movie doesn’t depict racism as bad, it depicts it as stupid
Favorite part for me is Madeline Kahn on stage mimicking famous German singer, Marlene Dietrich! All her subtle acting made for a hilarious parody!
Oh nice! That's one of those things that I didn't catch because it was a product of the time.
I actually have a rendition of Little Drummer Boy sung in German by Dietrich, and, tbh, Madeline’s imitation isn’t that far off.
It's not a particularly funny line, but my favorite line in this movie is "Watch that 'boy' shit, redneck...you're talking to the sheriff of Rock Ridge."
It's just so goddamned satisfying.
I've used "what in the wide wide world of sports is going on" in casual conversation. I regret nothing

Both Madelyn Kahn and Gene Wilder are in Young Frankenstein.
Oh, by the way Harvey Korman who plays Hedley Lamarr, is also in one of the all time greatest comedy sketches, the infamous Dentist Sketch with Tim Conway from the Carrol Burnett show.

That's awesome! That's a pretty cool screening. I didn't know Mel did anything like that these days.

That's pretty great. Thanks for that piece of trivia.
Thanks for the heads trivia! I missed the 3rd cameo of Mel Brooks but it's funny that he always shows up in his movies. I'd do the same thing. 😂
No problem. With Mel Brooks you never know what you’ll get. He has an animated film coming out called “Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank” which is supposed to be a remake of “Blazing Saddles”. He voiced a character called Shogun. It should be interesting the trailer looks funny.
Oh wow, I had no idea! The cast for it looks pretty great too.

I'm glad you get this. I HATE when people say "You can't make this movie today". WTF is that supposed to mean? Of course you can. Of course you SHOULD!
Totally agree. I can't understand how some people don't see that it's making fun of how dumb the racists look.
Young Frankenstein is an absolute classic.
It actually *is* the same hangman from Robin Hood - same actor, same character, nearly 20 years apart.

Regarding the seduction scene, an incomplete joke: Brooks lays it out: “She blows out the candles, and she says in her German accent, ‘Is it true what they say about you people?’ And Cleavon says, ‘I hate to disillusion you, ma’am, but you’re sucking on my arm.'” (I think the sounds came across as too pornographic so Brooks cut the joke out, see clip below)

The other thing about Jesse Owens is that he helped question the Nazi racial propaganda by winning 4 medals in the Nazi Olympics in 36' (and Mel Brooks inserts anti-Nazi jokes in his movies).

Randolph Scott was a leading man in dozens of westerns, but fell out of favor when news began to leak out of his decade-long relationship with Cary Grant.
20:30 It seems from your lack of reaction that you didn't get the Treasure of the Sierra Madre joke about the badges. That's another that slips through the crack nowadays.
In the 1970's, in all the movies and on all the TV shows, as soon as someone was racist, you knew they were the bad guy and they were going to get taken down. So no one was offended at this movie's opening: we knew they were opening with the bad guys.
Silent Movie is really cute and has a lot of stars of the day in it
I'm open to that!
Richard Pryor is part of the reason it goes so far
Thank you for recognizing that this makes fun of racism by showing how stupid it was. This is such an eminently quotable movie. One of my favorites is "Where the white women at?" You should definitely watch Young Frankenstein.
Back in high school band in the 80s, we played a game in a town where a known kkk member had unsuccessfully run for mayor. When we got to the school, one of the black guys in the band stepped off the bus and yelled "Hey! Where the white women at?!"
Everybody cracked up including the band director.
Brilliant commentary there, Chief. (eye-roll)
What's your issue here?
"Watch that 'boy' shit, redneck. You're talking to the sheriff of Rock Ridge."
Yeah, I'm white, but that is always so damn satisfying.
The only way to watch this movie is full length, uncensored. I've seen it 100 times, but still cracks me up
I watched it full length and uncensored. 😂 I'm confused. I edited this down.
Greetings Jay Bond
my name is Karl Avery Murray.I have seen this Movie in a release back in 1978.It is one of the funniest Movies ever made.Characters like Jim are based on other Movie characters.Jim,the Waco Kid was based on Dean Martins character from "Rio Bravo'. another western. The ending was surprising
Oh, that's great! Admittedly I have not seen Rio Bravo. I actually haven't seen any westerns, but that's what this channel is all about. So perhaps I'll check that out at some point. Thank you!
Yay one of my favorite films 🍿
The line, "Hey, where the white women at?" makes me cackle every time"
You MUST do Young Frankenstein: Gene Wilder, Madelyn Kahn, Terri Garr and Marty Feldman. And they shot it all just like the old horror movies.
Nobody gets the "Laurel and Hardy" handshake any more. I guess 90 years is too long. It was only around 40 years back then. The only reason I know Laurel and Hardy is from PBS clip shows when I was a kid in the 70s. They were funny, but to be honest I like the Harold Lloyd stunts better.
I realize nobody's mentioned this but Young Frankenstein would be fun
I think race relations are alot worse today...back then we all got along and were able to make fun of each other's differences without getting so easily offended!
I can't speak for the times back then but I think it really depends on where you live to be honest. I grew up in a pretty diverse area and things were mostly good on the surface. It's micro aggressions that go unnoticed that as a grown man, I'm only realizing now. I do agree that some people are easily offended, but on the flip side there are a lot of people who think no change is ever needed. Kinda need a comfortable medium.
Such a funny and unique movie at the time.
Jesse Owens, 4 gold medals in 1936, 3 world's records.
