  • Have you ever bought a large flyer model and found that the base provided isn't that strong? Please join me for a demonstration of how to reinforce the flight stand of the Orion Assault Dropship. Along the way I share some thoughts about the film Valerian, new Star Wars movies and using epoxy adhesives.

    You sir , promised me a link in the description below (ignoring the try part at 7:26) on extremely useful tools , one can never have to many extremely useful tools now can you :)
    Also was one of the few who did enjoy the quick build , although it made it feel like I was on a different channel , carry on with the good work , in the grim dark its nice to have a soothing voice of reason ;)

      +Mats O My apologies, I forgot that link! I filmed this 3-4 weeks before I edited and published this and it slipped my mind. The tools I refer to are micro chisels made by Trumpeter, here is a link to an example: www.emodels.co.uk/trumpeter-model-chisel-f2-09924.html
      Glad you enjoyed this and the other video, I'll try another one of the fast builds with some better music. Thanks for watching :)

    Good stuff. I like the idea of using the wire to support those stands, I'd agree trying to put one of those dropships on a flying stand held on with white glue would make me incredibly nervous. Also waiting on Valerian to hit Amazon Prime myself so I can rent it.

      +Brooks Sligh Definitely check out Valerian! The Orion weighs over three pounds so it really needs a stronger base than builds straight out the box. Thanks for watching :)

    TLDR thanks for providing the space for me to gain some perspective on my star was love affair.I haven't heard of many people not loving rogue until recently and your explanation makes a lot of sense to me as it is the same reason it's my favorite star wars movie. I think this is because Rouge One most closley mirrored my childhood star wars play. Thinking back this probably because I was a 90s star wars kid and what star was to me was informed by the micromachines sets X-wing pc games and West end games rpg. The thing all of those things have in common are they olny have a tangential relationship to Luke's journey. So really rouge one should not appeal to most people as it dose to me.

      Nathan Anderson Very interesting! Our two perspectives go to show how different viewpoints form according to environmental exposure. Going deeper into psychology one could argue how important foundational memories - those gained in early childhood years; me child of the 80's, you as a child of the 90's. Thanks for watching :)

      leakycheese Yes Exactly. I would love to be in a conversation with some one introduced to it around the time of the rest release and some one introduced around the time of the prequels to find what aspects of star wars powers their nostalgia. And after that maybe go back to school and get a masters in Star Wars cultural anthropology.

    I usually do the same on all my heavy flyer base except I use an aluminum plaque the I pre-cut for the wire.
    It's for add weight to the base and add stability.
    On a side note I agree with you Valérien is a very good film. I have gone watch it with both my child and they enjoy it but my wife didn't want to come.
    Ironically my children are the same age than yours
    Luc besson movies usually get bad critics but I allways enjoin them.

    On the subject of Leon I was watching it the other day and thought to myself now that Natalie Portman is in her 30’s I
    wonder if Besson will consider doing a sequel to Leon with her character. Don’t exactly know what the story would be but it would be interesting to see how a child who had gone through everything she does would turn out.

    Why is it so important to make the bottom perfectly flat? I would think that putting glue and then the plasticard on the base would be more then enough.

    • @leakycheese
      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LordKhensu Two reasons: firstly he model weighs 1.4kg unpainted so it will bend the thin plastic of the base over time if there are any voids, secondly and more importantly the relief features I removed make the plastic card stand proud of the base rim so if you don't smooth them down the base rim will not contact the surface the model stands on. Thanks for watching, Firstling :)

      I see, makes sense.
      I like your videos, I usually watch (listen to) them while I do my own models.
      Now that you mention it, 1.4kg as unpainted, how much does paint put on top of that?

    • @leakycheese
      @leakycheese  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +LordKhensu Thank you. I'd guess the paint on a model of this size would probably be a few tens of grams.
