      that's my question as well. However as a cellist, I gotta point out that our strings are under VASTLY higher tension than those on a bass, and presumably have to be stronger as a result. How that affects the acoustic properties I have no fucking clue. They definitely feel different to the touch.

      @@mikeharris6833 a lot of modern players favor the brighter, bolder tone of the metal cores, but yes, synthetic gut is common as well. Often cellists use metal for the low strings and synthetic gut for the high strings, to make them mellower and less shrill. Granted it was quite some time ago that I did my research when buying my strings (which I have not changed in more than fifteen years) and trends may have shifted. I know mine are metal, all four of them.

    Next logical step... use a bow on them :D! Seriously, this sounds incredible and I'm really curious what a cello bow on cello strings -- on an electric bass -- sounds like. (I think Tool's Mantra uses a cello with some guitar effects but somehow I don't think this will sound like that).

    • @marnaehrech1223
      @marnaehrech1223 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The guitar doesn't have a curved bridge so you couldn't use a bow

    • @leftaroundabout
      @leftaroundabout 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The flat bridge is one part of the problem, the insufficient space to touch even the outer strings is another, and finally even if you do manage produce a decent tone the pickups won't bring it out well because they're designed to pick up _vertical_ string vibrations, but a bow makes the string vibrate only sideways.

    • @facemash
      @facemash 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leftaroundabout The strings vibrate in an ellipse. That goes for however you make the sound, bowing, plucked, or otherwise.

    • @leftaroundabout
      @leftaroundabout 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@facemash Nope. A bowed string vibrates pretty much flat in the direction of the bow movement. Looking really closely, it may be some kind of warbly multi-twist figure-eight pattern, but not an ellipse.

      @@DetroitFettyghost Maybe I misinterpreted your comment, which you have since deleted, but it sounded like you were saying that you were hoping the color of intrigue didn’t make the news because of people feeling it was being discriminated against. This ties in very closely with current political climate in the US and implied that you were referring to the attention drawn to the rights of POC in the past year and a half.
      I’m sorry if I misinterpreted your comment, but I can get behind the idea of spreading smiles through a comment section, although perhaps jokes that can be interpreted with strong political undertones may not be the best way to do so.
