- Like the number of gods in the Philippines pantheon, the amount of creatures that fill Filipino folklore is numerous. From the myths retold by the separate townsfolk of different dialects, you will find that the creatures serve similar roles as its Western counterparts. There are many, many creatures that I would love to discuss, but the most important ones belong to one specific group, a group that encompasses monsters very similar to our western, Transylvanian friends.

Exactly, my mother is a healer or you could call it basically a witch doctor. When I visited in the south cotobato where I was born my mom would heal people with spiritual or supernatural problems. And when I tell people that here in America they would think I’m crazy lol.

Later at night like 2017 or 2016, Me and my Neighbors come to play Hide and seek in 6:00 PM we hide in a vehicle and I'm with my other neighbors hiding in the vehicle. Soon when my friend is near us, My other neighbor's run to their hiding spot and run back home that they saw a "Tiktik" Some of the other neighbors are still outside, I run back home with my Nanny. my Grandma told me that she saws huge red glowing eyes before when she was a kid and she said its looking at her at the window at the second floor but she didn't saw its face or body because its dark only its eyes because its glowing.

The duendes are real, apparently. Back when my mom was in 4th grade, her teacher was doing her makeup at her table during lunch break, in front of her was a vase and pretty flowers on it. Later, she noticed a duende leaning on the vase. She got startled and got scared and told the duende that she never wanted to see it ever again and for it to go away. So, the duende did and one day later, the teacher had a fever. Also, my mom's grandma, was doing laundry at a river. Then, when she went home, she noticed three duendes that sneaked into the laundry basket. She got along with the duendes and gave them a meal and decorated the house for them. My mom's dad thought she was insane and was imagining things. Then, one of the duendes had their birthday come soon and so she made a party for them. She decorated the house with pretty flowers and put rice and fish on a plate and let them eat. My mom's dad came with his siblings and they told her that they are fake and she is crazy. But then, when the duendes finshed the fish, they put down the leftover bones down onto the plate. They all saw the bones move and finally believed it. According to her, not all of the duendes were evil and mischievous.

I believe in all of them, as a child these were imprinted in my head. So when I grow older even without concrete evidence of their existence, I believe them cuz its just how we were raise. I grew up fearing them and respecting their homes etc the forest. So yeah they exist for me.

Thank you for making this really interesting video. I can see many similarities between these Filipino creatures, and legends we have in Europe. It makes me wonder if there isn't some truth behind them.
Duwende - fairies, sprites, brownies, elves have many of the same combination of mischief / taking care of the home functions in British and Irish folklore.
Tikbaland - like the centaurs in Greek myth, who were also half man / half horse (though the halves were reversed - the top half was a man) and were also known to rape women.
Manananggal - a cross between vampires (east European bloodsuckers) and harpies (Greek winged 'women')
Bakunawa - sea dragons, obviously
Tiyanak - probably a mixture of an older, precolonial myth and catholic teaching introduced by the Spanish.
Mangalyo - we call it "will-o'-the-wisp" in England :-)

Other than mythical creatures we also have " barang " in my home my parents still practicing it. Even me and my 3 sister are required to learn it because our parents told us that it's a gift from our forefathers.
