I don't know if we'll be able to convince you otherwise, but absolutely nothing was mapped out beforehand. Tony had no idea what the subject matter was going to be and his reaction at the end was sincere. Glad you enjoyed it, hope you enjoy episodes we have forthcoming on WWE PPV weekends this summer.
Tony keeps bringing up in these interviews that piper wrote in his book about tony speaking up about his pay was the same as it was before hogan. The part Tony is leaving out is that piper wrote that Tony said is “how come I get fronted some of my pay and then how come when my paycheck comes it’s less than it should be” Tony sees everything different than it actually is
Speaking about how strong Mr. T was, I remember Battle of the Network Stars as a kid and Tom Wopat from the Dukes of Hazzard pulling Mr. T into the mud during the tug of war.
Tony is spot on regarding New Day, it was funny in the beginning. Presently it almost seems as though their goal is to make them a bunch off jumping buffoons.
I'm late watching this but this is great!! I'm 46 and watched Mr. USA wrestle since I was 8. Great stories, he's a little "off" in some topics, but still an awesome dude!
Tony is right, after seeing Rey Mysterio beat The Big Show, I was done with the boolshyt. And Charlotte Flair is way better and deserves better credit than what's that new wrestlers name...???
Vince never did anything for HIM? Wow, wtf Tony. This is the 3rd shoot I have watched with him. Some of the things he is saying is the exact opposite of what he has said before. Is he getting to old to remember?
That is a true statement in modern days...especially when it comes to them actually wrestling. Back in the early territorial days, they drew as a special attraction. Just like the midgets. Back when Moulah had her ladies troupe and they would travel and be booked by promoters who wanted a special attraction to sell some extra tickets. They would get the women, midgets or someone like Andre. But it only worked for 1 or 2 shows...and then the crowd would be sick of them. ...Even today with this 'women's revolution', as they call it in the wwe. I don't think these much improved women's matches are drawing any viewers or ticket buyers. They might inspire some little girl to become a wrestler or watch more, but they aren't bring in fans. But they certainly are doing a great job and it is nice to see them actually wrestling and not throwing each other around by the hair..like women did in the past. I used to hate the spot where the girl on her knees was picked up and kind of 360 spun around by her hair (but she was really just holding onto the other girl's 'forearms).
Sadly in wresting this is true. I mean nowadays maybe Becky & Charlotte & Rhonda can draw some big money but you obviously can't have them always in the main event cuz you gotta build the other women up. But some of the matches aren't the best & can be sloppy at times. I hope tho that things can change. There are women outside of wwe that I know can draw.
Even though Tony Atlas was right about speaking up for yourself when something's wrong wrestling will never be unionized all they do is fire your ass hire somebody else dress they ass up like your character you played or close to it
Now going into wrestlemania 30+, fans today if polled would "slam" the first by comparison. Which not saying to argue comparison, but for godsakes show respect to the one that started it all. Ive read many comments saying it sucked. In my POV, its still the best one. BECAUSE for the advancement of cable tv and vhs into the home and the stars that became house hold names it was the clash, the gathering it was WRESTLEMANIA.
Tony Atlas is awesome. the interviewer sucks. I wish he'd shut up and let Tony tell what we want to hear. excellent stories from Tony. but this interviewer when he doesn't agree with something he tries to move on to something else and we want to hear Tony finish his story.
Boston Wrestling MWF - Don't worry about what some 12 year old turkey has to say. You do a great job. I can only begin to imagine what it is like trying to keep Tony on track. Most people don't realize what the job of an interviewer entails. Keeping the guest on topic is one of the jobs..and Tony is a bit of a special case that requires extra 'handling'. Keep it up man. I really enjoy your videos.
My favorite 'Tonyism' is how he can't say the letter N. Have you ever heard him talk about MFL football. Huckamaniai is a good one too. hehe. He is great to listen to though. Soooo naive...but can be really thoughtful and insightful at other times.
Arthro92 tons of racism in wrestling; tony once said promotions only wanted 1 black wrestler per territory; so there was many black wrestlers but not many “made it”....some jacked their own careers: Atlas, Rocky Johnson, Thunderbolt, pistol pez, butch reed, bad news allen; all could have been huge
Did Tony say $500 per week in the interview? If so, probably meant $500 per night, which is/was the minimum guys would get for live events appearing on.
I love Tony Atlas. When I was a kid Tony looked like a super hero. But he couldn't wrestle a lick. I know he thinks Vince looked him over. But that ain't true. Tony could be hard to watch. He just never "got it". That's why they tried to keep him on a tag team.
He was used substantially as a singles - including almost never getting pinned at monthly MSG events, the equivalent of monthly PPV's - prior to walking out on WWF in 1984. Even during his run as a tag team champion, on house shows, he worked mainly singles. He was being groomed for a monster push until his "vice" made him unreliable. The post-1985 modern era Atlas left little to be remembered for once WWF tricked him into walking out on AWA / Verne Gagne.
Paul Orndorff was legitmately tough. Not the toughest guy, but not a pushover. Also, there were guys in the WWF at the time that could have shooted on Mr. T. He was in the lions den.
Wendi Richter was bigger than Hulk Hogan and Vince was scared about it? Ron Simmons should have been given more focus that Sting? Is this really Tony Atlas or a Mirror Universe version?
Of course woman don't get pushed as much as the men Tony. Pro Wrestling is known as a man sport. Of course they don't let woman play in the NFL. That would be awful LMAO. If Tony wrestled today. He would complain that women are getting better pushes than him. He says he has been doing this for 45 years. Listen, just because someone does something for a living, doesn't mean they are good at it.
At least Tony can openly admit to being "Stupid" as he also stated in the Hannibal Interview. Because he NEVER THOUGHT to simply Call Verne and see if Vince was telling the Truth.... That's just common sense, especially when you have a championship in another division In any business, people are ALWAYS testing others to see how far they can get over on them regardless of the industry... But here's the thing, Vince's Health is Failing big time (if you saw him at that Ring ceremony) He looks very bad
He'd have some insight, because he actually got in a fistfight with him. I've heard a lot of people say orndorff was tough, but it sounds more like he got in a lot of fights due to lacking a sense of humor. Compared to the average person, I'm sure he's tough. Compared to some of the other guys Atlas wrestled with (Brody, Black Jack, Harley, ...), probably not.
Tony was homeless until Vince gave him a job, which also paid for his school to become a certified personal trainer...but Vince screwed him. What a dick!
Nate Tony was bigger and stronger than both of LOD , titles mean squat many great wrestlers tough guys never won the belt ...over their entire careers ...
He never won the AWA Tag Team Titles. Tony Atlas was 6-1 vs. The Road Warriors in the AWA. Tony Atlas and Jim Brunzell had one match for the AWA Tag Team Title Match vs. The Road Warriors, They lost. They did beat them 4 times before they won the tag team titles. Tony Atlas and The Crusher beat The Road Warriors by DQ twice in AWA Tag Team Title Matches. www.cagematch.net/?id=2&nr=1083&page=4&s=500
Michael Rubin plenty of other wrestlers even top guys were drug addicts and nut cases as well... Vince Sr. was a real man and Vince Jr. wasn't it's just that simple...
It wasn't racist? Of course it was racist. What was slick's gimmick - a pimp. What was kamala's gimmick? Tribal african guy. How many black guys carried the title for 3 or 6 months? The answer to that is in another video, not many, because TV ratings go down due to viewers being racist.
Problem is, at least partly, Atlas sees everything through a black lens, 'doesn't matter' eh, the tag team titles many teams never even received in the northeast or simmons' world title?! Yea, right-that's it; it's all about HIS career too. Use to love this guy, so happy-go-lucky back in the day, it is a shame but mixes up wcw/wwe/ecw like this was all the same territory. He wasn't much of a worker anyway and got pretty messed up.

i wanna say hi to Tony !!!!.....hes my hero
Tony hit the nail on a lot of issues he's seen it all in the wrestling business seasoned veteran
Appreciate your thoughts, Shawn.
Interviewer has a 1920's baseball radio commentator's voice. lol
LMAO
This is probably the most insightful interview on behind the scenes of wrestling I've ever heard! Absolutely shocking information!
That had to be a worked finish. And it was AWESOME!! More Tony Atlas please!! He's a national treasure!
Boston Wrestling MWF Wow!! I believe you when you say it was all spontaneous. I love it!!
atlas isGREAT!!!!!!!!!!! can listen to him all day! tyvm
Thanks, CM.
In mid-1999, Chyna was more over than freshly turned heel HHH.
Horn-swalla

Hog swalla

Tony sees everything different than it actually is
This guy is the best interviewer. Thanks for the upload.
Thanks, Bryan, appreciate it.
Speaking about how strong Mr. T was, I remember Battle of the Network Stars as a kid and Tom Wopat from the Dukes of Hazzard pulling Mr. T into the mud during the tug of war.
Mr T became a diva by then. Tom was pretty tough though.
Yeah, but he had that country boy strength from working on Uncle Jesse’s farm.
More Tony he is a great historian of wrestling...
The views are way up, continued Success your podcast is Magnificent....
Read Backlund’s autobiography he clearly states the finish where he lost the title to Shiek it was not a shoot it was the planned finish
Correct.
If it had been shoot backlands ego wouldn't allow him to admit he lost a shoot wrestling match. He was a mark for his own schtick like many top guys
Tony is spot on regarding New Day, it was funny in the beginning.
Presently it almost seems as though their goal is to make them a bunch off jumping buffoons.
The interviewer intervenes too much adding his opinions at the wrong moment like he was there????
I'm late watching this but this is great!! I'm 46 and watched Mr. USA wrestle since I was 8. Great stories, he's a little "off" in some topics, but still an awesome dude!
He's a little off in a lot of ways!
Shultz did work after the incident with Stossel. He went to Montreal briefly and held the International title.
I love Tony’s stories! Great insights
Another great upload guys. Thanks for this. Appreciate it.
Glad you enjoyed it. New episodes (and guests) coming each WWE PPV weekend going forward.
Tony is right, after seeing Rey Mysterio beat The Big Show, I was done with the boolshyt. And Charlotte Flair is way better and deserves better credit than what's that new wrestlers name...???
When David Shultz tell that Mr. T story he says Mr. T backed down from him. I believe Tony though.
Orndorff was always short sighted in regards to the contributions of Lauper and Mr T
Vince never did anything for HIM? Wow, wtf Tony. This is the 3rd shoot I have watched with him. Some of the things he is saying is the exact opposite of what he has said before. Is he getting to old to remember?
Women have never drawn money
That is a true statement in modern days...especially when it comes to them actually wrestling. Back in the early territorial days, they drew as a special attraction. Just like the midgets. Appreciate your thoughts, David.
Paul summed it up from the get go...
Tony Atlas is awesome. the interviewer sucks. I wish he'd shut up and let Tony tell what we want to hear. excellent stories from Tony. but this interviewer when he doesn't agree with something he tries to move on to something else and we want to hear Tony finish his story.
Respect your opinion. It can be a (fun) challenge trying to keep Tony on topic at times, and we only have a certain amount of time to work with.
I think he did a good job of trying to keep Tony straight. He goes off topic fast and he pops of crazy statements.
He's growing on me!Keep em coming ,from Bill Watts territory,New Orleans
Did tony forget he was "samba simba???" Dnt talk about clowns dude!!
Hogswallow?!?!!😅😂😁😀🤣😁
My favorite 'Tonyism' is how he can't say the letter N. Have you ever heard him talk about MFL football. Huckamaniai is a good one too. hehe. He is great to listen to though. Soooo naive...but can be really thoughtful and insightful at other times.
32:20 - Wrestling is staged, not fake.
NightWarriorAlive my son is a pro wrestler with Upstate Professional Wrestling and I gotta agree with your statement.
Staged and fake what's. The difference lol
Tony is great - also kudos to the interviewer - I like his style, Massachusetts Style!
Glad you enjoyed it, pal, have more great content coming each PPV weekend and Tony has more experiences to share.
Boston Wrestling MWF keep up the great work .... I love your interviews
Appreciate it, pal!
fn idiot. Mass accent is the worst in the entire world
Former New Orleans Saint
Tony in later videos said there was no racism he said it was the other guys fault
So, if Vince Jr. did all of those things to the black wrestlers, Y not call it racism?
Arthro92 tons of racism in wrestling; tony once said promotions only wanted 1 black wrestler per territory; so there was many black wrestlers but not many “made it”....some jacked their own careers: Atlas, Rocky Johnson, Thunderbolt, pistol pez, butch reed, bad news allen; all could have been huge
Tony got some bullshit with him from the 64 Andre teef to the 2000 bucks not to press slam Bundy lol
I want sushi.
I wonder what WWE wrestlers are making $500 a week.
Did Tony say $500 per week in the interview? If so, probably meant $500 per night, which is/was the minimum guys would get for live events appearing on.

MonstarMk3 i almost debated you lol, but i stopped and thought yeah he never really had any note-able single matches
He was used substantially as a singles - including almost never getting pinned at monthly MSG events, the equivalent of monthly PPV's - prior to walking out on WWF in 1984. Sounds Like B.Backlund had an bobble head size ego.
Orndorff would of beat the living hell out of Mr. T back in the day
No questions asked
Tony is trippin lol
Orndorff wasn't beating Mr T
Wendi Richter was bigger than Hulk Hogan and Vince was scared about it? Ron Simmons should have been given more focus that Sting?

oh damn I haven't watched wwe in years
didn't know he looks very bad
Tony butchers the English language lol. But he has a lot of wisdom of the business and life in general.
Sheik is always Sheik!
Mr T would have killed Piper and Mr. Wonderful
orndorff wasnt tough? is atlas nuts?
He'd have some insight, because he actually got in a fistfight with him. I've heard a lot of people say orndorff was tough, but it sounds more like he got in a lot of fights due to lacking a sense of humor.

It was Vince company doesn't matter if it racism it his to push who he wanted why he wanted. Nash jobbed to a midget in wcw to rey mysterio
What is Tony talking about? He never won any titles in the AWA. He never beat the Road Warriors.
Nate Nizzle Atlas didn't even say he beat the Warriors for the title it was another team that had it at the time...

Appreciate the clarification.
+Murphy Jones please listen to the whole interview before trying to correct me. He said it in this interview.
atlas was a head case it wasnt because wwf was racist
Michael Rubin plenty of other wrestlers even top guys were drug addicts and nut cases as well... Vince Sr. was a real man and Vince Jr. wasn't it's just that simple...

shadowypuppetman ImThe Black lens is actually a lot clearer than the backwards prism we are subjected to.
