Despite all the horror and exploration of ideas and the collapse of the cosmos, the one thing that emotionally resonated with me was the idea of the poor journalist, unable to fully express his love for his fellow men, just sighing alone in his hotel room, and delving into his lonely psyche. Made me just quite sad.

He also had gay friends, so yeah he wasn't the Klansman type some modern critics try to paint him as. He was clearly a conflicted person.
