Superb by DKJ Mama ! Sabha patikku veu deivam samanam Aguma tilla Abhogi Ragam 22 Karaharapriya Janya Rupaka Talam Gopalakrishna Bharathiyar Krithi
There is a story associated with this song. One evening, Gopaalakrishna Bhaarati was visiting Tyaagaraaja. Thyagaraja Swamigal and all his disciples were singing Pancharathna krithis and in the middle, he asked Gopalakrishna if he knew any song in Abhogi ragam Tyagaraja asked his disciples to continue singing. After the day was over, on the next day Gopalakrishna sang Sabhapatikku and tyagaraja was impressed. When Tyagaraja asked him about the song, Bharati replied saying he composed it overnight. Tyagaraja recognized the genious in him.
This Song is Composed on Thillai Natarajar ( Shiva ) of Chidambharam The story of Chidambaram begins with the legend of Lord Shiva strolling into the Thillai Vanam (Vanam meaning forest and thillai trees - botanical name Exocoeria agallocha, a species of mangrove trees - which currently grows in the Pichavaram wetlands near Chidambaram. The temple sculptures depicting the Thillai trees date back to the 2nd century CE). The word Chidambaram may be derived from chit, meaning "consciousness", and ambaram, meaning "sky" (from aakasam or aakayam); it refers to the chidaakasam, the sky of consciousness, which is the ultimate aim one should attain according to all the Vedas and scriptures.Another theory is that it is derived from chit + ambalam. Ambalam means a "stage" for performing arts. The chidakasam is the state of supreme bliss or aananda and Lord Natarajar is the symbolic representation of the supreme bliss or aananda natanam. Saivaites believe that a visit to Chidambaram leads to liberation.Yet another theory is that it is derived from the word chitrambalam, from chithu meaning "play or dances of God" and ambalam meaning "stage" A unique feature of this temple is the bejeweled image of Nataraja. It depicts the Lord Shiva as the Lord of the dance Bharatanatyam and is one of the few temples where Shiva is represented by an anthropomorphic murthi rather than the classic, anionic Lingam. The Cosmic Dance of Lord Nataraja symbolises the motion of the universe as sustained by Lord Shiva. The temple has five courts.Aragalur Udaya Iraratevan Ponparappinan (alias Vanakovaraiyan) rebuilt the Siva temple at Chidambaram around 1213 AD. The same Bana Chief also built Tiruvannamalai temple. The temple has been traditionally administered by an endogamous group of shiavite brahmins called Dikshitar, who also officiate as its priest.
    P vEru deivam samAnamAgumA tillai
Can there be another god like the SabApati of Cidambaram?
AP kripAnidhi ivaraippOla kiDaikkumO inda daraNi tanilE
Can we get another merciful one like him on this earth?
C oru daram siva cidambaran enDru uraittAl pOdumE
    paragatikku vEru puNNiyam paNNa vENDumA?
Ariyar pulavar mUvar pAdam aDaindAr enDrE purANam
arindu solla kETTOm gOpAlakrishnan pAdum tillai
Only once need anyone utter "Shiva Chidambaram" (His Name)
Is there any other good deed that needs to be done to attain salvation? All the sages attained his feet, say the scriptures. Let us understand and listen to what Gopalakrishan sings

Abhogi is a bright raga, listening to which people get a spring in their step and hope in their hearts. This raga’s vibrance and positivity are noteworthy. In classical kutcheris compositions in this raga are sung in the earlier part of the concert to capture the listeners’ fancy and give a flying start to the recital. This raga dispels dullness and its name literally means sumptuous and luxurious.
Abhogi is a symmetric raga and has five notes in its ascent and descent: Sadja, Chatusruti Rishabha, Sadharana Gandhara, Suddha Madhyama and Chatusruti Dhaivata. A striking feature is that the Pancama and Nishada are not seen. A very important point to note while handling Abhogi is that in the transition from Dhaivata to Sadja and vice-versa, the Nishada must be completely avoided and the glide must be carefully executed, failing which Abhogi’s allied raga Sriranjani will surface.
Classical pieces in Abhogi include the popular varnam “Evari Bodhana”, a favourite among students of music, “Manasu Nilpa” and “Nannu Brova” of Thyagaraja, and “Srilakshmi Varaham” of Dikshitar. Popular Tamil kritis in this raga are “Sabapathikku” of Gopalakrishna Bharati and “Nekkurugi” of Papanasam Sivan.
