This video was made for a few people that can't find the strange clacking sound coming from their bikes. Most mechanics will say it is normal, and not bother. But there are two bike all the same and one makes the noise and the other not. So I looked deep into it and fixed it.

Hey bro thank you so much for posting this video. Are both of those pistons the same size? I’m just curious cuz for sure my old piston was slapping. I see the mark on one side for sure. I bought the bike used so idk I need a bigger size. I look forward to your response. Thumbs up and subscribed !

Old 166 malossi . and stock 150 . If low miles and not in bad shape just change the piston. Always good to set up bike a little rich. If kited premix is better. Take care.

Can I send you a video of my rebuilt Vespa and let me know if my engine has piston slap. I’ve rebuilt with a new piston but it was on the top limit for the largest rings after lapping the head. It’s fine when revved but on tick over it sounds very much like piston slap to me.

Changed the rollers and an oil change . It’s still rattling but not as bad . Should I change pistons ?

Will run a long time the way it is. It's up to you and how much it bothers you. One of mine makes noise, and I been riding it a lot the way it is. When I'm all done with all my projects I may fix it. But mechanically it run's fine.

Should this happen to a Vespa with less then 8000 miles

If cylinder overheats from running lean or bad oil mix yes. But if engine run the right way no.

I think mine has got piston slap. Can I send you a video so you can let me know if you think the same. Just rebuilt the engine with new piston and it sounds like slap to me. I might take the head back off and see if my piston does what you are showing👍

It's almost always the last thing after you can't find anything loose or scraping .

What does it cost to fix at a shop

Depends, if just piston and rings not that much. Can be done without pulling engine. At an honest shop. I can change piston in under an hour on bike.

It puts an annoying extra strain that can and does get worse depending how you ride , don't venture to far . Death rattle for me

I've been running bikes with cool plugs like 8 or 9. Not 6 to 7. And a little rich at very high RPM's. I lose some power, but can push hard all day without worry. Tired of cooking pistons and cylinders. If you run bikes a little rich always have extra plugs. Take care.

@@pmodrat l wouldn't argue because l wouldn't know , did hear that from a racer on some forum , probably you but he gained power and also won with the extra reliability you mentioned. I was warning that the subject of piston slap ignored will get you pushing before long. Lol
