I've learned English from this channel. 😅 For some reason, I can understand and remember English expression easily from this video. Thank you, Billy.😊 Rather than saying '철수 is a friend', he's closer to a rival. Rather than saying 'I like coffee', I like the smell of coffe. (This sentence is needed for me.👍) Rather than because I like it, I'm doing it for my health. (Here is my self-writing) 요리가 좋아서라기 보다는 건강을 지키기 위해서 하는 거예요. Rather than saying because I like cooking, I am cooking for my health. 영어가 꼭 필요해서라기 보다는 그냥 좋아서 공부하는 거에요. Rather than saying because English is definitely needed, I just like English, so I'm working on it.
Billy... This might come random but I just want to thank you so much for the effort you put in teaching us Korean. You're videos have already saved me so many tears. ♡
I just recently found your channel and I love your teaching style. Love how you break down the words in each sentences, and just being super thorough in your explanations, I haven't seen any other teacher do that so far. Thank you! Oh, and the humor :))))) Question: How can I improve my listening skills? I'm getting decent at reading but I still suck at my listening comprehension.
Typically getting better at listening requires lots of... well, listening. I recommend that alongside your regular Korean studying and practicing, listening to things that you can follow along - even if you're not able to understand them. Some good ideas are Korean variety shows, without English subtitles. Just try to listen and watch them as much as you can. Being exposed to a lot of Korean will also help your studying go more smoothly :)

There is a very common mistake in this sentence, even by Koreans. There is no word '가르키다' in Korean. The correct word to mean teach is '가르치다'. These days, many Koreans also confuse '가르치다' and '가리키다(pointing out)'. That's why these two words are mistakenly mixed, and words like '가르키다' came out.
Billy 씨, I have another question, though I’m not an intermediate learner I’m just curious. Why was the quoting form of 이다 used in the sentence : 운동을 좋아해서라기보다는 건강을 위해서 하고 있어요 seeing as though it means to be. Maybe I’m not asking the question correctly but I hope you understand.

Moooooreee than worrrrddsss 🎶
So I made these two sentences:
고양이를 싫어한다기보다는 강아지를 더 좋아해요.
12월을 좋아한다고 말한다기보다는 크리스마스를 좋아해요.
I’m not sure of the second one.

@@elijiah2797 correct me if I'm wrong, I have my mind going like it should be "12월에" and not "12 월을".

There the meaning is "More than because~ it is~ (이다)."
Oh and I got a question. When should we use the 세요 and when the 니다 and when the 니까 form?
You can start learning all of those, and a lot more in my free course: th-cam.com/video/sx0yyQqkpqo/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so very much ✨
Is this form mostly literary? Or is it used often in conversation as well? Is it kind of formal sounding or neutral? Thank you!
Used all of the time :-) I always mention in my videos if you should know something specific about when it should/shouldn't be used.
