I used to work on a Houston Fearless at Best Film Industries which was an old film lab in Toronto. It was an ok job for a while, but the task that was really nasty was mixing up gallons of Kodak developer and other chemicals, with no ventilation, or masks or any kind of safety gear. Thanks for the post and bringing back distant memories of those days long ago.

We had an Extek microfiche duplicator machine and would process the huge spools of 105mm film on a Houston Fearless machine of similar design.

the machine used 35seconds into this machine....what does it do to the super 8 cartridges? what is happening there?

It cracks the front plate on the cartridge so you had access to the film plane. The second step, you break the clutch in the cartridge so you can pull the film out by backwinding. We just used a small wood chisel for that like a screwdriver. You had to be careful not to let the film ends slip back into the cartridge otherwise you had to break the whole thing open in the light safe room in the pitch black. It was a crazy process.
