More excellent work Jody. I wish my community had a reporter that could investigate the draining of 4 lakes by the GBRA and the misappropriation of funds
I guess we have a tax funded Duchess Whitten now. Get the state senate involved to amend the use of the public land to be allowed to be used by...THE PUBLIC!
After watching this there are many questions that are left unanswered. Who owns the land private or public. Why is this an issue. Why complain. Story was missing a lot of context
Martha Whitten apparently has her very own exclusive lake house. Who do I contact to make a reservation? Do rate payers have any voice in how their money is spent - most states have a regulatory agency to represent rate payers and oversee power companies. I forgot that this is Texas, where corporations police themselves.
I think that property actually belongs to the state the power company leases it from them and there should be right away as I would take it to the records and find out where there are not
Really don’t see a problem with the place existing but they should be able to lease it out on off times to offset the cost of the property. Regardless of security, maintenance and issues that may happen. If its leased the extra cost can be part of the terms for use. The we don’t have the funds is just plain crazy
4th of July family events, do they have to have insurance in case guests get injured? Sounds risky on top of rate payers funds use ( some more of these could cause utility rate increases ) or maybe injury lawsuits will be passed on to the utility rate costs too.
Great question. The argument our tipster made was that all the money spent to maintain this property could be returned to rate payers to lower energy bills. Or, not spending it at all would do the same. He also pointed out the potential multiple millions this property could yield if sold.
Sell the property.. then the 'company' doesn't have any expenses and can use the profits to fire proof the power plant. Or have a wonderfully sushi-outed office party.
So we have two old busy bodies in a *very expensive lake cruzer* whining that they can't use some area? How about you go look where they keep that boat docked.

Where is the story? It is land owned by a power plant & was funded by people paying their bills to the power plant. They can do with it as they see fit. Must be a slow news day to be covering a non-story.
Excellent work Jody.
Thank you 👍🏻
$500 padlock? Are they sure that wasn’t a toilet seat for the Air Force?

Nothing will ever change

$500 padlock? That sounds like about $495 embezzled by someone...and I'm sure that's the tip of the iceberg.

Smells fishy to me. Get them Jody.
gotcha!!!
Perhaps, you should consider looking at the property next 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day..... and see what is going on.
This would all be fine of we had a choice of utility providers, because the free market would fix this sort of corruption.

Pretty sure they weren't allowed to raze that property all the way to the shore line. I'd call the EPA on them.

For them alone? I could never live down there.
and they can't keep power up in snow storm
Typical abuse of power. So as long as im elected i can use it? Ruling class much?????
I cant imagine who called in the tip. I'm sure it wasnt a couple of nosy old men boating around the lake cause the fish werent biting lmao.
I agree with most of these shows but if the power company is a private power company why can't they do what they want?
It's a public utility company.
It’s a public utility with a public governing board. It’s created a private retreat that the public utility company won’t let the public access.
@@JodyBarrInvestigates where im from out power companies are privately owned
@@JodyBarrInvestigates check and see what texas laws say about boat docks and shore lines..
This is why what used to be actual NEWs is now more a form of entertainment that I call 'Newsertainment", as much drama with little to no results.
If they rarely use it... wtf do they own it?
So I board member can have it fir her private parties. Probably not even allowed to be used by actual workers of the utility
Huh
