    DSP room correction is the future. Once you use it, there's no going back. One major reason I purchased the Anthem STR integrated amp was for the ARC (active room correction) which is a game changer to the audio. I think Anthem should put their ARC in a dedicated product that people can use with other gear as one can with Dirac Live.

      To be fair I can understand why you would want that in a video, and sorry this was not that. It wasn't made to do that as I explained I made this so I could give people the basics of how to get Dirac Live in hifi specifically. Dirac themselves have made videos about the product and what it is and does maybe look out for them.
      An end point is the hardware thats needed for what Dirac does to live on - the same as Roon.

    Hi Terry, great video as usual. You didn’t mention the recently introduced Dirac Live Bass Control (DLBC), i.e. gives you the ability to integrate subwoofers by filtering out bass from the main speaker channels and feeding that to a subwoofer (or two) and being able to control the crossover, timing and phase between the two. That might be an important consideration for some and I’m not sure all hardware can run it or be upgradeable to it.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bass control is not for beginners or a beginner topic really

    • @aprobin1
      @aprobin1 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Sure. It’s not even a released product yet, so fully understand, absolutely. I was just thinking about it from the perspective of someone looking to buy hardware today, like the NAD or Dynaudio Focus speakers. They might want to at least have simply an awareness of it so if it’s something they might be interested in they can check to see if the hardware they’re considering will get the upgrade when it’s released in the near future.

    Hi Terry, I’ve reached out before regarding the use of the Dirac application and my system. Because there may not be a way to use the Dirac with my Willsenton tube amp I went ahead and purchased the mid used with the Dirac and plugged it into my iPad and was able to use the mic externally and used the Wiim ultra calibration tool and I made a nice difference. The external mic is much better than the internal iPad microphone. Have you had a chance the use the calibration tool on the Wiim? Would be interested to know what you think.

    Never heard of a mini DSP. Someone could make a video showing how to set up a very good quality one of those then show how the app works. I’m simply using the PEQ in my Eversolo 8 into Accuphase amp. Dirac seems ok but without a video showing how it all operates I won’t bother. I don’t even know if the Dirac app lets you adjust PEQ on the go.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      PEQ is a very basic form of equalisation, Dirac is super advanced that allows you to manage the sound of the system far more comprehensive and accurate compared to PEQ and it works to improve the systems impulse response to improve clarity. The PEQ in the Eversolo is good I have used it a lot lately but what you can do with Dirac is more powerful

  • @larryh9525

    Hi Terry, I was watching your speaker comparison video, in particular, the section on the LS50 Meta. I picked up a pair and noticed that room gain was very pronounced during the initial setup. In your testing, you mentioned that placement could be fussy. As opposed to tinkering with placement, I ran Anthem's room correction software and the sound snapped into balance. This goes to your point that room correction software is a must. The LS50s replaced a set of Elac UB52s, which are somewhat similar to the KEFs. It's interesting that a room-corrected pair of UB52s sounds better than a non-corrected pair of Metas.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry, not all room correction is the same and room gain is not bad its good, the best calibration will utliise the room gain we get to make more of the speakers sound in the room. Dirac Live gives you total control over that and more which is why I use it. Also yes of course if your room is holding the speakers back taking that away will make more of a difference than changing the speaker for a like for like design. The ls50 Meta boost the 50hz region to make the sound bigger and bassier than they really are and if your room boosts that too then its double double and potentially trouble - grrrrr aggressive bass that also probably sounds hollow depending

    • @larryh9525
      @larryh9525 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Terry, I agree. However, rear-ported designs in my room go crazy. Room gain does help a front-ported design like the UB52s. ARC manages room gain very easily, which is why I like it. From the various room correction demos I've seen on YT, Dirac is much more in-depth and ARC is much easier. Essentially, measure the room and you're done. While it does provide the ability to tweak the results, I'm more than fine with a 90% solution.

    Hello Terry, appreciated the detailed explanation for someone not familiar with DSP's or Dirac. I have a music only 2.2 system. Unison Research Unico Secondo hybrid integrated amplifier (5 unbalanced RCA ins + 1 balanced XLR in) with the Unico CD to which I recently added a pair of REL T9/x's (high level connection to the speaker out terminals) and a Bluesound Node for streaming (RCA interconnects). Since I already have the Node, can I consider the MiniDSP Flex with the Dirac Live add-on ($700), or will the SHD ($1,300) give me better flexibility. My biggest issue is the two double height glass walls (although I can roll down the shades for optimum listening or if I'm listening to heavy bass recordings - electronica, soundtracks). Is this something that Dirac Live can help with? On other recordings like jazz & most pop/rock, the balance seems spot on. I'm interested in Dirac but am a little weary of going down a deep rabbit hole. Btw, your review of the T9/x steered me their way and they brought new life to my system in our new house, so a big thank you!

    Hi Terry,
    Awesome video. I just bought an Onkyo NR7100 which has Dirac live (Full version) built in. My front speakers are Wharfedale's Valdus 400SE and Dirac set the front, center and surrounds to a crossover of 70Hz? The LPF of LFE is 120Hz. Is this correct? I had the front speakers set to full but a friend said set them to 40Hz instead to reduce the potential stress.
    The center frequency response 95-20,000 Hz (±3dB)
    The Surround frequency response 100-20,000 Hz (±3dB)
    Dirac set the crossovers to 70Hz for the front, center and surrounds?
    I also have a pair of Time frame TF700 but I think the left speaker has an issue with frequencies above 3KHz as it falls 20 db's.
    Would love any advice.

    Hi Terry, I'm relatively new to high end audio and your channel has been a huge support, so firstly thank you very much for the great content and helping educate me! I've now got a Hegel H95 running Buchardt SE400 Mk2's and using Apple TV to stream Apple Music through the TV at 48khz via a toslink from the TV to the Hegel. Separately I run a Linn LP12 directly via the analogue inputs. My question for you is that in your video you suggest connecting the source to the MiniDSP and then to the DAC to remove the number of digital/audio conversions. However, unless I'm missing something, the only way I can do this with MiniDSP products is the use the FLEX Digital, so the digital out goes into the Hegel's DAC. Am I missing something? And Im wondering if I should use a minisDSP or upgrade the Hegel H95 to the H190 and use Roon instead? Room correction being the main goal. Any advice from yourself or any of your followers would be gratefully appreciated! Many thanks!

    If using Roon, and you want flexibility, it seems that the computer Roon Core + Dirac Software into a DAC is the way to go. Saves money on the minidsp not to mention the space, cables, power. Is there anything else I'm missing?

      I think I’m with Terry *provided you can optimise the placement of your subs*. If not, like me (I have one REL T9i immediately to the right of my listening position & one halfway up the left-hand wall), then using the sub outputs allows different timing correction for each, which I think works better for me. Also, in my system (NAD C658 streaming preamp with Dirac), I quite like being able to adjust the crossover frequency in the app depending on the music & listening volume. Hopefully that’s helpful…

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Interesting. I have an integrated tube amp and a MiniDSP Flex between the amp and streamer. I have 2 Rel T5i subwoofers connected to the MiniDSP. Downside is that the only way to adjust the volume is to use the MiniDSP for this as the subwoofers are not connected to the amplifier. This could be solved by using the high level connection of the Rel and connect them to the amplifier (which I had before I had the MiniDSP). My question is, will Dirac work this way?

      Yes Dirac is always the same and this might not be what you want tyo hear but if your calibration doesn't sound right for music it doesn't sound right for movies either. It will exactly the same, it will measure the front speakers the same and the sub the same. The system config has no bearing. What does is how you use Dirac and then how you pull the systems sound together after. I have done over 100 Arcam calibrations for customers all over the world - trust me I have pushed the Arcams to their limits. If its not right for music its not right its that simple - movies are not amazing at the moment, they can better take motivation from that

    Hello! I use Dirac since years. But there is one question nobody seems to have the perfect answer for. If you have only 2 loudspeakers it´s perhaps better to do only one measurent at the listening position. Pointed straight to the front between the speakers. What do you think?

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No because Dirac works off an average and it looks for similarities and differences in the response across the varied points measured especially for the impulse response correction. 1 measurement doesn’t give it the right data and it’s also not true of what your hearing when you think about it the mic only measures the 1 inch around its tip you have 2 ears for starters and hear a lot of the room surrounding you not to just where you sit. That’s the whole point of it :)

    • @Ouwenbroek
      @Ouwenbroek 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Thank you very much for your quick reply! I tried it years ago with just one measurement. The result was not that good. Correction of Impulse response doesn't play a role with my speakers, Dirac doesn't make any audible correction there either. In the end I only use Dirac to control my room mode (20db @50hz). So, there is no "wow-effect" when I turn Dirac on (apart from the droning sound). I think that the corrected impulse response in particular causes the "wow effect" for many people.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Impulse response correction is not to do with the speakers, its correcting the impulse response of the listening area thats totally different and more important when you think about it. You cant turn it on and off its happening automatically.

    Can anyone answer this? I have a PS5 as a source going into a TV and then out from Optical in a fairly respectable 2.2 system, all seperates. Can you get Dirac, the full correction, without using whatever device's (mini dsp let's say) DAC? And, does it require constant laptop connection? Is it set and forget?

      You need extra hardware to add Dirac into system that don’t have any component with build-in dirac.

    Hi Terry! This is a bit of a long shot but i gotta try something. Have you ever came across Dirac Live not integrating a sub at all? I have a situation where i got volume matching and measurements nicely done on my 2.1 system, heard the test tones from all 3 components and then proceeded to adjusting the filter graphs. After i export the filter and turn it on in BluOS (i have a NAD C 3050 LE), the sub is not in the mix. I double checked this by trying to increase lvl from the sub itself - nothing. When i turn Dirac off, the sub returns back into the mix normally. Any idea if i'm missing something or what could be the issue here? Thanks for all the good content and sorry for the long winded question! PS, i tried grouping all as 1 group and speakers + sub as separate groups - no dice, still the same result..

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem

      Sounds like a technical issue best to fire a technical support ticket to nad and Dirac as maybe there is an issue with the nad firmware and or the version of Dirac live you are using.

      Thinking about it, I had this once before doing a cal for a customer with an NAD M10 V2. The sub worked initially but then wouldn't come on. Try a factory reset of the NAD and load the settings and cal in again.

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem Thanks for the tip! Did the reset and cal again. Still no dice. Without filters the sub works fine, as soon as i toggle one of the filters (i made the full 5) - no dice. Nothing from the sub. Will need to hear what NAD have to say.

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem So the problem is solved! Got in touch with NAD and they graciously pointed out that there's been issues with Dirac 3.6.5 sub integration. Hi Terry, I'm considering fixing the acoustics of my listening room. Searching on the internet I discovered your TH-cam channel, really well done, your explanations are very understandable, I'm following you assiduously, in short.
    I would like clarification on the use of Dirac Live, I use a Yamaha RX-A2080 receiver for hifi listening and home theatre, so all audio-video sources are connected to the receiver. In this case, in order to have DSP treatment on all inputs I think I have to use a miniDSP. Can I connect it to a pre-out of the receiver and return to the amp-in input?
    Thank you. Gianfranco

    Everytime I use Dirac it's an infuriating time. From the PC not finding my Arcam on the network to volume levels being too low, even though the test signal through the speakers is near deafening. The complications of using subs is confusing as my Arcam only seems to allow a 2.1 set up even though I have a 2.2 system. It really is a minefield so if you're going to try and give it a go as a non techy and impatient listener like me, I advise a couple of whiskeys at hand.

      Dirac assists the user a lot but you dont want automated, automated means someone else makes the decision about the sound of the system, how can they possibly know what sound you want - automated can never work for this reason, Thats the reason there is such resistance to these types of solutions in the HiFi space because automated systems never get it right.
