Really don't understand this need for stabling so much in some countries, here in New Zealand, its very rare to stable horses, even with snow on the ground, paddocks with surface water etc, horses are far happier out in the elements than cooped up in a square box., Glad to hear your horse came through this colic episode, and fantastic that you have found a better grazing solution.
Well done you for putting your horse first! It's so normal now for no turnout at so many big yards and then people wonder why things like ulcers are on the rise!? Horses need to live like horses! Glad she's on the mend now, that must have been awful for you. X
I’ve literally always been on DIY so this is a completely new experience for me! 1 livery had her horse diagnosed with ulcers a couple of years ago, so did most of the yard 🫣 X
I went to a show there in September last year and there was a horse colicing in the field and they brought it in and stuck it on the horse Walker 🙃 very interesting…. xx
Wow!!!!! After being there for 6 months and experiencing what I did (I did make a YT video but had to remove as Rachel threatened me with court!!) this somehow doesn’t surprise me!!! That yard really doesn’t care at all about the real care that goes into horses, do not rate at all xx
It's amazing that a yard can have such amazing facilities yet still have no winter turnout. That's just crazy!! I'm so sorry about what happened to your mare ....that was just absolutely awful!! I'm on my bf yard & he keeps his horses in 24/7 but I turn out or ride mine every day. I'm really paranoid about stuff like this!! I'm going to give my 5 Yr old mare lots of turnout tomorrow ( she's been in as her mud fever was so bad) I hope Yr somewhere with turn out now. Just goes to show luxury means nothing. All you need is a 20 x 40 a decent stable & some turnout to gave a very happy healthy horse . I've just found Yr channel ....
Looks can be incredibly deceitful and unfortunately I see it happen a lot at this yard in particular! Completely agree, basic facilities but top care will always win 🥰
You know your horse best and I'm so pleased that all turned out well. My tip as a very long time groom is check amount and consistency of droppings daily when you muck out also keep feeds moist. Does she drink well as sometimes horses prefer the field water to mains water. We feed wet soaked beet with feed. Your yard owner should work with you and be compassionate
Thank you for that! There was usually only 2 sometimes 3 dropping when I get there (she was on full livery so not often I’d see the mornings!) but I think both morning and evening feeds were dry - she drinks around 1 and a half buckets of water a night! I understand things can happen but trying to put the blame on me was a big fat no from me!
Nooo😭clueless yard owners are the worst!! This makes me cringe so badly 🫠 I’m so sorry this is your livery experience, I’ve seen it far too many times! I’m glad she recovered well ❤
the only ti e when horses should be kept in a stable 24/7 is either if its medically required, or if theres extreme weather (hail etc). did you move yards now? :(

Couldn’t agree more! And I’ve never been at a yard so against turn out!!

I just can’t believe people with that outlook on horses run yards 🥲 wished I’d known sooner!! But thank you 💜

Completely agree! I moved yards a couple of weeks after, when I was happy she was going to cope well with the move!
My mini horse had an impact ion not to long ago in his intestines and he just healed not to long ago
It didn’t take her long to heal but that’s certainly not the point!
