At age 70, I will let you in on a secret.....there is no appreciable difference between what we think is reality and a compelling simulation. We have to deal with the reality on our plate. Additionally, there doesn't exist any innate meaning or purpose in either of these possibilities. Many people might call this cynicism, pessimism or negativity. To me, however, it means that we are free to come up with our own meaning and purpose for life. I would nominate love, connection, community, and shared experience for consideration. You're exactly right, I have interned at one of the budge bracket investment banks and they are almost exclusively comprised of the elite students. However, if the investment banks are the only places which will compensate you financially for being intelligent - why shouldn't you work there? You're exactly right, I have interned at one of the budge bracket investment banks and they are almost exclusively comprised of the elite students. However, if the investment banks are the only places which will compensate you financially for being intelligent - why shouldn't you work there? Why work as an engineer when you can earn at least double at jp morgan? You could earn at the age of 21 what a senior engineer would earn at age 50.

I see your point, that's not what I was trying to point out, but rather how Matt Demon and probably many people like him, believe that these student are somehow going to have a positive impact on the society and he is mistaken. The world is going down the tube and the best brains are being highly paid to help going down the tube faster. not solve humanity problems, rather they will add problems. It's a tragedy.
