Borrello lambasted Merlino for talking trash about everyone, including other notorious figures like Sammy The Bull. He emphasized his disdain, claiming Merlino made the mafia look foolish by publicizing internal issues and he also challenged Merlino's credibility.

I live in ozone Park, and Gene would not even be able to show his face here. In fact, it wasn’t too long ago where he tried showing his face in neighboring Howard Beach, just 2 miles down the road, and he got chased out of town. They don’t like rats around here. Joey, on the other hand, came out on top in a brutal mob war for control of the Philadelphia crime family. He’s been shot, survived like two dozen assassination attempts, drive-by shootings. He’s had his best friends die in his arms and get shot next to him. And he spent like a quarter of his life in prison, and never once cooperated with authorities. Joey, unlike Gene, would be more than welcomed here. He would be treated like family.
I'm from Philly and Joey is loved by the whole city. His hood pass is stamped in every neighborhood. He just did an event not too long ago promoting his cigars where he was out on the block all day, shooting videos and signing autographs. Joey is as real as it gets.
